Full Guide Intro

Death Stranding 2 contains several references to other PlayStation franchises, and one of the most notable is the Yotei Mask, an Easter egg inspired by Ghost of Yotei.

Unlike many collectibles, this reward isn't found in the world. Instead, it requires progressing through part of the Adventurer's storyline and completing a specific post-rescue delivery.

Meet The Adventurer

The journey begins during Order 21.

While helping the Dowser, players are introduced to a mysterious prepper known as The Adventurer.

Although this encounter is important, you won't be able to unlock the mask yet.

Instead, continue progressing through the main story until much later in the Australian region.

Unlocking The Adventurer's Shelter

The Adventurer becomes more important during Episode 8.

Eventually you'll receive:

Order 36

This mission sends Sam into the mountain region to deliver a meteorite to the Adventurer's shelter.

Upon arrival, you'll discover that the Adventurer has once again gone missing.

This leads directly into:

Order 37

Complete Order 37

Order 37 requires rescuing the Adventurer from a dangerous mountain area.

This rescue mission can be challenging due to the terrain and weather conditions, but completing it is required for obtaining the Yotei Mask.

Once the Adventurer has been rescued for the second time, continue progressing through the story.

Wait For The SSS Message

After completing Order 37, you'll eventually receive a message through the SSS system.

The Adventurer explains that he wants to reward Sam for saving him and hints at a special item.

The attached image contains the silhouette of the reward, which is the Yotei Mask.

This message is the trigger that unlocks the reward.

Deliver Cargo To The Adventurer

Once you've received the message, bring any cargo to the Adventurer.

Options include:

  • Standard Orders.
  • Lost Cargo.
  • Facility deliveries.

The type of cargo does not matter.

As long as the SSS message has been received, any successful delivery to the Adventurer will unlock the reward.

How To Equip The Yotei Mask

The Yotei Mask is classified as a face accessory.

To equip it:

  1. Hold left on the D-pad.
  2. Open the equipment radial menu.
  3. Navigate to the face equipment section.
  4. Select the Yotei Mask.

The mask functions like sunglasses and other cosmetic face items.

Is The Yotei Mask Missable?

The reward does not appear to be permanently missable, but it's recommended that you claim it immediately after receiving the Adventurer's SSS message.

The Adventurer frequently leaves his shelter and becomes involved in additional rescue situations.

Obtaining the reward right away ensures you don't accidentally delay unlocking the mask.

Step-by-Step

  1. Progress through the main story.
  2. Complete Order 36.
  3. Rescue the Adventurer during Order 37.
  4. Continue playing until you receive an SSS message from him.
  5. Accept any delivery for the Adventurer.
  6. Complete the delivery.
  7. Receive the Yotei Mask.
  8. Equip it through the face equipment menu.

What You Need

  • Access to Episode 8.
  • Completion of Order 36.
  • Completion of Order 37.
  • An SSS message from The Adventurer.
  • Any cargo delivery for the Adventurer.

Best Strategy

As soon as the Adventurer sends the SSS message, complete a delivery for him immediately. This guarantees the Yotei Mask is unlocked before progressing further into his questline.

Rewards

  • Yotei Mask face accessory.
  • Ghost of Yotei Easter egg.
  • Additional cosmetic customization options.
