FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered — Platinum Walkthrough
Trophy: Lionheart
Obtain all trophies
Type: Platinum
How to Unlock
Earn all 34 other trophies in Final Fantasy VIII Remastered to unlock the Platinum. You'll need to complete the main story, collect the required Guardian Forces, finish several optional sidequests, and complete the game's combat and collectible challenges. Important objectives include collecting all 12 Timber Maniacs magazines, defeating every member of the CC Group in Triple Triad, reaching SeeD Rank A, defeating Omega Weapon, and accumulating 1,000 enemy kills. You'll also need to complete the Obel Lake and PuPu sidequests, obtain optional Guardian Forces such as Bahamut, Eden, Tonberry, and Cactuar, and reach 9,999 HP with a character. The Platinum can be earned in one playthrough, but several trophies are missable. Unlike some other Final Fantasy remasters, this game doesn't provide Chapter Select. Once every other trophy has been earned, Lionheart unlocks automatically.
Tip
Create multiple manual saves throughout the story, particularly before major boss encounters and the late-game point of no return. Always check boss Draw lists for Guardian Forces before defeating them. Collect Timber Maniacs magazines as you encounter them, especially the one aboard the White SeeD Ship. The remaster's 3× Speed, Battle Assist, and No Encounters features don't disable trophies and can make the Platinum considerably easier.
Warning
Several Guardian Forces are missable, although some have alternative Draw opportunities inside Ultimecia's Castle. The White SeeD Ship contains a particularly important missable Timber Maniacs magazine. Once you leave the ship, you cannot return to collect it. Complete your optional world activities before progressing into the final Time Compression sequence, which restricts access to earlier locations. Squall may be the most reluctant hero in Final Fantasy history, but unfortunately the Platinum requires him to socialize, collect magazines, master card games, and save the world. Whatever.
Trophy: Alexander
Unlock Guardian Force Alexander
Type: Silver
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Obtain the Guardian Force Alexander by drawing it from Edea during the second battle against her. During the Battle of the Gardens storyline, Squall and his companions infiltrate Galbadia Garden. After progressing through the building, you'll eventually confront Seifer and Edea. The first battle is against Seifer. Defeat him to advance to the confrontation involving Edea. Before attacking Edea, select the Draw command and examine her available magic. Alexander will appear among the available Draw options. Select Alexander and choose Stock to obtain the Guardian Force. The trophy unlocks immediately after Alexander is successfully drawn. You can then continue fighting Edea and complete the story encounter. Alexander is particularly valuable because its abilities are needed for obtaining Doomtrain later in the game.
Tip
Equip Draw on at least one active character before entering the boss encounter. Save before the confrontation so you can reload if you accidentally defeat Edea without obtaining Alexander. After recruiting Alexander, prioritize learning Med Data followed by Med LV Up. Med LV Up allows you to refine 10 Remedies into one Remedy+, and you'll need six Remedy+ items to summon Doomtrain. Collecting Alexander during this encounter helps prevent complications with another trophy later.
Warning
Alexander is missable during the main story. If you defeat Edea without drawing Alexander, your second opportunity is to draw it from Catoblepas inside Ultimecia's Castle. Although this provides a backup, obtaining Alexander so late can complicate your preparations for Doomtrain. Don't confuse Edea's first encounter in Deling City with the later battle in Galbadia Garden. Alexander is available during the second Edea confrontation. The party is busy confronting a powerful sorceress, but Squall still needs to stop halfway through the battle and check whether she's carrying a collectible Guardian Force. Trophy hunting demands priorities.

Trophy: Bahamut
Unlock Guardian Force Bahamut
Type: Silver
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Defeat Bahamut inside the Deep Sea Research Center to obtain the Guardian Force Bahamut. Bahamut is an optional Guardian Force available after obtaining the Ragnarok airship. Fly to the Deep Sea Research Center, a remote facility located in the far southwestern ocean of the world map. Land Ragnarok at the facility and enter the building. Inside, you'll discover a large central mechanism that periodically emits a bright blue light. Approach the mechanism carefully. When the light is glowing, moving toward it can trigger an encounter with a powerful enemy. Wait until the light disappears before advancing closer. Once you reach the central mechanism, interact with it to begin a sequence of questions and battles. For the first question, select: "It's not our will to fight." You'll then fight a Ruby Dragon. Defeat the dragon and interact with the mechanism again. For the second question, select: "Never." Defeat the second Ruby Dragon. When the final question appears, move the selection downward to reveal a hidden third answer. Choose: "It's our nature." This triggers the battle against Bahamut. Bahamut is a powerful opponent capable of dealing substantial magical damage, including his signature Mega Flare attack. Use strong Junctions, maintain your party's health, and attack with your most effective abilities and Limit Breaks. After defeating Bahamut, he'll join your collection of Guardian Forces and the trophy unlocks.
Tip
Make a manual save before entering the Deep Sea Research Center. Prepare strong defensive Junctions and reliable healing magic before fighting the Ruby Dragons and Bahamut. The Ruby Dragons can be dangerous, so avoid entering the facility with an underprepared party. Bahamut can learn valuable abilities, including Mug and powerful refinement options. Defeating Bahamut also unlocks access to the deeper sections of the facility, where you can eventually encounter Ultima Weapon and obtain Eden. If you're collecting every Guardian Force, complete both objectives during your visits to the Deep Sea Research Center.
Warning
Bahamut is optional and must be obtained before losing access to the Deep Sea Research Center during the late-game story progression. The third answer is hidden beneath the visible dialogue choices. Don't assume only two options are available. Moving while the central mechanism is glowing can trigger unnecessary Ruby Dragon encounters. Don't confuse Bahamut with Eden. Bahamut is obtained by defeating the dragon himself, while Eden must be drawn from Ultima Weapon in the lower facility. After defeating Bahamut, you may need to leave the facility and return later before the lower passage becomes accessible. Squall travels to a remote underwater research station, answers three philosophical questions, and gets attacked by dragons after each one. Whoever designed this interview process clearly wasn't interested in hiring anyone.

Trophy: Brothers
Unlock Guardian Force Brothers
Type: Bronze
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Obtain the Brothers Guardian Force by defeating Sacred and Minotaur inside the Tomb of the Unknown King. During the main story, you'll travel to Deling City and need to retrieve a student's identification number from the Tomb of the Unknown King, located northeast of the city. Although obtaining the identification number is mandatory, completing the entire tomb and recruiting Brothers is optional. Enter the tomb, collect the number from the sword near the entrance, and continue exploring. The dungeon's navigation can be confusing because the camera consistently faces the same direction. A reliable method is to follow the corridors and repeatedly turn right at intersections. You'll eventually encounter Sacred, one of the two Brothers. Defeat Sacred, then continue through the tomb to activate the water-control mechanism and release the drawbridge. After completing the necessary mechanisms, return toward the entrance and take the central route across the bridge. You'll face Sacred and Minotaur together in the final battle. Cast Float on both enemies to prevent their Earth-based healing abilities from restoring HP. Focus your attacks on one Brother at a time, maintain your party's health, and defeat both opponents. After winning, Brothers joins your Guardian Force collection and the trophy unlocks.
Tip
Save before exploring the tomb because navigating its corridors can become confusing. Stock Float magic before the final encounter. Preventing Sacred and Minotaur from healing makes the fight considerably easier. Obtaining Brothers also rewards you with their rare Triple Triad cards, which are useful when challenging Balamb Garden's CC Group. Brothers provides valuable HP-related Junction abilities, including HP-J and percentage-based HP boosts. These can help you work toward Maximum HP later in the game.
Warning
Brothers is optional. Simply obtaining the student's identification number and leaving the tomb won't unlock the trophy. You must complete the tomb's optional puzzle and defeat Sacred and Minotaur together. Recruit Brothers before progressing into the late-game point of no return, when access to earlier world locations becomes restricted. Unlike several other Guardian Forces, Brothers isn't obtained by drawing from a story boss, so don't expect to find it automatically during normal progression. Two enormous stone brothers have been waiting inside an ancient tomb for someone to challenge them. Squall arrives looking for a student ID and somehow leaves with two new magical companions. Typical SeeD paperwork.

Trophy: Cactuar
Unlock Guardian Force Cactuar
Type: Silver
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Defeat Jumbo Cactuar on Cactuar Island to obtain the Guardian Force Cactuar. Cactuar Island is a small desert island located east of the Centra continent. You'll need the Ragnarok airship to reach the island conveniently. Once you obtain Ragnarok, fly to Cactuar Island and land on the desert. Look for an enormous green cactus that periodically rises out of the sand before disappearing again. This is Jumbo Cactuar. Approach the moving cactus and make contact with it to initiate the optional boss battle. Jumbo Cactuar has a large amount of HP and can deal significant damage with its powerful attacks. Use strong physical attacks, Limit Breaks, and well-junctioned magic to reduce its health as quickly as possible. The boss is vulnerable to Water, so Water-element attacks can provide additional damage. As Jumbo Cactuar becomes weaker, it may display messages indicating that it's getting nervous. This is a warning that the boss is preparing to escape. Increase your damage output and finish the battle before Jumbo Cactuar runs away. After defeating Jumbo Cactuar, the Cactuar Guardian Force joins your collection and the trophy unlocks.
Tip
Equip powerful Strength Junctions and use Aura to activate Limit Breaks more frequently. Squall's Renzokuken is particularly effective for dealing substantial damage before Jumbo Cactuar can escape. Jumbo Cactuar is weak to Water, so junctioning Water to elemental attack can help. The Cactuar Guardian Force is worth obtaining because it provides several powerful stat-bonus abilities and useful Junction options. Cactuar Island is also an excellent location for earning AP, making it useful when leveling Guardian Force abilities.
Warning
Jumbo Cactuar can escape when its HP becomes low. If it runs away, you'll need to encounter it again and restart the battle. Don't confuse ordinary Cactuar enemies with Jumbo Cactuar. Defeating regular Cactuars doesn't unlock this trophy. You must defeat Jumbo Cactuar before the late-game point of no return restricts access to the island. Avoid spending too long healing or casting low-damage spells once the boss becomes nervous. The remaster's 3× Speed and Battle Assist features can make the encounter easier without disabling trophies. Cactuars usually run away from danger. Jumbo Cactuar decided to become enormous, challenge experienced mercenaries, and then threaten to run away anyway. Some habits are difficult to break.

Trophy: Carbuncle
Unlock Guardian Force Carbuncle
Type: Silver
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Obtain the Guardian Force Carbuncle by drawing it from one of the Iguions during the assassination mission in Deling City. During the main story, Squall and his companions participate in a mission to confront Sorceress Edea. As the operation unfolds, Rinoa becomes trapped near the sorceress, and Squall and Irvine must reach her. You'll eventually encounter two Iguions, monstrous creatures resembling living stone statues. Before defeating them, make sure at least one party member has the Draw command equipped. Select Draw and target either Iguion. Carbuncle will appear among the available Draw options. Select Carbuncle and choose Stock to obtain the Guardian Force. The trophy unlocks immediately after Carbuncle is successfully drawn. You can then defeat the Iguions and continue the assassination mission.
Tip
Equip Draw on both Squall and Irvine before entering the encounter to ensure you have a reliable opportunity to obtain Carbuncle. Carbuncle specializes in defensive support and casts Reflect on the party when summoned. Its Junction abilities include HP-J and defensive options that can improve your party's survivability. Carbuncle's HP-boosting abilities are also useful when working toward Maximum HP.
Warning
Carbuncle is missable during the Deling City assassination sequence. If you defeat both Iguions without drawing Carbuncle, you'll lose your first opportunity. A second chance is available by drawing Carbuncle from Krysta inside Ultimecia's Castle. Because the Iguions are mandatory story enemies, it's easy to rush through the fight without checking their Draw lists. Make sure you specifically select Carbuncle rather than simply stocking ordinary magic. Squall encounters two terrifying animated statues guarding a powerful sorceress. Naturally, his first priority is checking whether either monster contains an adorable magical creature. Every mercenary has hobbies.

Trophy: Cards Club Master
Defeat every member of the CC group
Type: Silver
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Defeat every member of the CC Group in Balamb Garden. The CC Group is a secret organization of skilled Triple Triad players located throughout Balamb Garden. To challenge its members, you'll first need to establish yourself as a successful card player. Begin by playing Triple Triad against students and other NPCs around Balamb Garden. Win approximately 15–20 matches to build your reputation. If the first CC Group member still refuses your challenge, continue winning additional games. The CC Group becomes available after defeating NORG during the main story. Once the challenge is available, defeat the members in the required order. Begin with Jack, who walks around the first-floor central hall near the directory. Next, challenge Club, who wanders the Garden's hallways between the cafeteria and parking area. Then defeat Diamond, represented by two female students who occasionally stop near the directory. Continue to Spade, the student found near the second-floor elevator who originally gives Squall his starting Triple Triad cards. After progressing through the story and gaining access to the appropriate Garden areas, challenge Heart, who is actually Xu, located on the bridge. Joker is another required member. He appears randomly near the pier inside the Training Center and can be challenged after Jack without following the normal sequence. Once you've defeated the other six members, speak with Dr. Kadowaki in the infirmary. Return to Squall's dormitory, save your game, and rest in his bed. You may need to rest several times before the final member appears. The CC Group's King is revealed to be Quistis. Defeat Quistis in Triple Triad to complete the CC Group challenge and unlock Cards Club Master.
Tip
Collect strong Guardian Force cards before beginning the challenge. The Ifrit, Diablos, Sacred, and Minotaur cards provide an excellent foundation for your deck. You can also obtain powerful character cards, including Quistis, Zell, and Seifer, during the earlier portions of the game. Save between CC Group matches to avoid losing valuable cards. Defeating Joker allows you to obtain the Leviathan card and unlocks an upgrade for your Battle Meter. Winning the Gilgamesh card from King is especially useful because Card Mod can refine it into 10 Holy War items, which provide temporary party-wide invincibility. These items can make the Omega Weapon encounter considerably easier.
Warning
Cards Club Master is missable if you progress beyond the late-game point of no return without defeating the entire group. You must defeat all seven members, including Joker. Defeating Quistis without completing the other required challenges won't satisfy the trophy conditions. Heart and King aren't available immediately after NORG, so continue the story until the necessary areas and events become accessible. Regional Triple Triad rules can spread between locations. Rules such as Random and Same can complicate matches, so be cautious when introducing unfamiliar rules to Balamb Garden. Quistis may appear only after resting multiple times. If King doesn't challenge you immediately, leave the dormitory, return, and try again. Squall's instructors have secretly formed an elite underground card-playing organization, and their leader breaks into his dormitory to challenge him. Balamb Garden desperately needs a normal extracurricular activities program.

Trophy: Cerberus
Unlock Guardian Force Cerberus
Type: Silver
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Obtain the Guardian Force Cerberus by defeating the optional Cerberus boss inside Galbadia Garden. During the Battle of the Gardens storyline, Squall's party eventually infiltrates Galbadia Garden. As you explore the building, you'll reach the main hall, a large central area containing a three-headed monster standing in the open. This creature is Cerberus. Approach Cerberus and interact with it to initiate the optional boss battle. Cerberus uses powerful magic and can cast Double or Triple to increase the number of spells it casts during a turn. Use Dispel if Cerberus enhances itself with Triple, and maintain your party's health throughout the encounter. Attack with your strongest available abilities and exploit stagger-free opportunities to deal consistent damage. You can also Draw useful Double and Triple magic from Cerberus before defeating it. Once Cerberus is defeated, it joins your collection of Guardian Forces and the trophy unlocks.
Tip
Make a manual save before approaching Cerberus. Stocking Triple magic during the battle can be extremely useful because Triple provides excellent Junction bonuses, particularly when assigned to Speed. Cerberus can learn the Spd-J and Auto-Haste abilities, making it valuable for improving your party's combat speed. Defeating Cerberus during the Battle of the Gardens also ensures you won't have to rely on its much later alternative acquisition method.
Warning
Cerberus is an optional boss. You can progress through Galbadia Garden without defeating it, so don't walk past the creature. Unlike Pandemona or Alexander, Cerberus isn't obtained by drawing from itself. You must defeat it in battle. If you miss Cerberus in Galbadia Garden, you can obtain it by drawing from Gargantua inside Ultimecia's Castle. Complete the optional encounter before leaving Galbadia Garden to avoid unnecessary late-game cleanup. A giant three-headed dog is standing in the middle of a military academy, and nobody seems particularly concerned. Galbadia Garden's campus security standards could use some improvement.
Video Guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Za-34suVPsI
Trophy: Diablos
Unlock Guardian Force Diablos
Type: Bronze
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Obtain the Guardian Force Diablos by defeating him after using the Magical Lamp. After completing the Dollet SeeD examination, Squall returns to Balamb Garden and officially becomes a SeeD. Before departing on your first mission to Timber, speak with Headmaster Cid at the Garden's front gate. Cid will give Squall an important item called the Magical Lamp. This item allows you to summon Diablos for an optional boss battle. Before using the lamp, make a manual save and prepare your party with Healing magic, strong Junctions, and the Draw command. Open your inventory while on the world map, select the Magical Lamp, and use it. You'll immediately enter a battle against Diablos. Diablos specializes in Gravity magic, including attacks that reduce your characters' HP by a percentage of their current health. Use Draw to obtain Demi from Diablos, then select Cast to turn his own magic against him. You can also use Blind magic to reduce the effectiveness of his physical attacks. Keep your party healthy and continue attacking until Diablos is defeated. After winning the battle, Diablos joins your collection of Guardian Forces and the trophy unlocks.
Tip
Obtain the Magical Lamp immediately after becoming a SeeD so you don't accidentally leave Balamb Garden without it. You can save the actual Diablos battle until your party is stronger, provided you've already obtained the lamp. Casting Demi from Diablos's own Draw list is an excellent strategy because Gravity damage is effective against him. Diablos provides valuable abilities, including Mug, Enc-Half, Enc-None, and powerful HP boosts. Enc-None is especially useful for exploring dangerous locations and completing collectible objectives without repeated random encounters.
Warning
The Magical Lamp is missable if you leave Balamb Garden without speaking to Cid at the correct opportunity. Cid also provides the Battle Meter during the SeeD promotion sequence, but the Battle Meter and Magical Lamp are separate items. Simply obtaining the lamp doesn't unlock Diablos. You must use it and defeat the Guardian Force. Don't sell or otherwise discard the Magical Lamp before using it. Diablos's Gravity attacks can leave your party with very little HP, so avoid becoming careless just because the attacks don't always deal fatal damage. Headmaster Cid congratulates Squall on becoming a SeeD by handing him a mysterious lamp containing a dangerous demon. Most employers give their new recruits an ID badge and a welcome packet. Balamb Garden has different priorities.
Trophy: Doomtrain
Unlock Guardian Force Doomtrain
Type: Silver
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Obtain the Guardian Force Doomtrain by collecting the required items and activating Solomon's Ring. Unlike many Guardian Forces in Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, Doomtrain isn't obtained by defeating a boss or using the Draw command. Instead, you'll need to collect four specific items during your adventure. First, obtain Solomon's Ring from Tear's Point, located in the Great Plains of Esthar. The ring can be found on the ground near the center of the area. Next, collect six Malboro Tentacles. These can be obtained from Malboro enemies, which appear in locations such as the Great Plains of Esthar and Grandidi Forest. You can also refine Malboro cards into tentacles using Quezacotl's Card Mod ability. Then, collect six Steel Pipes. These are dropped by Wendigo enemies, commonly encountered around Timber and Galbadia. Alternatively, Card Mod can turn Elastoid cards into Steel Pipes. Finally, obtain six Remedy+ items. To create Remedy+, you must have Alexander learn Med Data followed by Med LV Up. Use Med LV Up to refine 10 ordinary Remedies into one Remedy+. You'll need 60 Remedies to produce all six. Once you have Solomon's Ring, six Malboro Tentacles, six Steel Pipes, and six Remedy+ items, open your inventory while on the world map. Select Solomon's Ring and use it. Doomtrain will join your Guardian Force collection, unlocking the trophy.
Tip
Recruit Alexander during the second Edea battle in Galbadia Garden. Obtaining Alexander early allows you to learn the refinement abilities needed for Remedy+. Malboros are dangerous because Bad Breath inflicts multiple status effects. Junction 100 Confuse and 100 Berserk spells to Status Defense to reduce the risk of losing control of your party. Card Mod can provide an alternative to farming dangerous enemies for materials. Doomtrain is especially valuable because it inflicts several status effects and can weaken powerful enemies.
Warning
Doomtrain is missable if you fail to obtain Alexander and its required refinement abilities. You must collect all the ingredients before activating Solomon's Ring. Simply possessing the ring doesn't unlock the Guardian Force. Don't confuse ordinary Remedies with Remedy+. The recipe specifically requires six Remedy+ items. Complete Doomtrain's requirements before the late-game point of no return to avoid losing access to important locations and resources. Most Final Fantasy heroes summon dragons, gods, or magical beasts. Squall summons a haunted locomotive that runs over his enemies. Public transportation has never been more threatening.

Trophy: Eden
Unlock Guardian Force Eden
Type: Silver
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Obtain the Guardian Force Eden by drawing it from Ultima Weapon in the Deep Sea Research Center. The Deep Sea Research Center is an optional location accessible after obtaining the Ragnarok airship. Fly to the remote research facility in the southwestern portion of the world map and enter the building. Your first major objective is to defeat Bahamut, who guards the facility's upper section. Approach the glowing central mechanism when its light is inactive and answer the questions presented to you. The correct responses are: "It's not our will to fight." "Never." "It's our nature." The final response is a hidden option located below the visible choices. After answering the questions and defeating the required Ruby Dragons, you'll battle Bahamut. Defeat Bahamut to obtain his Guardian Force. Next, leave the Deep Sea Research Center and return after the lower section becomes accessible. Resting at an inn before returning is a reliable way to advance this process. A passage will now lead into the deeper levels of the facility. You'll need to manage a limited supply of steam pressure units while opening doors and descending through the research center. One convenient method is to bring Zell in your party, since he can help open a later passage without consuming the normal number of steam units. Continue descending until you reach the Deep Sea Deposit. Proceed through the lower dungeon while preparing for increasingly dangerous encounters. Near the bottom, use Siren's Move-Find ability to reveal a hidden save point. Save your game before approaching the final mechanism. Use the required steam pressure units to activate the encounter with Ultima Weapon. During the boss battle, select Draw and examine Ultima Weapon's available magic. Eden will appear among the available Draw options. Select Eden and choose Stock to obtain the Guardian Force. The trophy unlocks immediately after Eden is successfully drawn. You can then defeat Ultima Weapon to complete the optional dungeon.
Tip
Make a manual save before the Ultima Weapon encounter. Equip Draw on at least one active character and obtain Eden before focusing on defeating the boss. Ultima Weapon also carries Ultima magic, which provides excellent Junction bonuses for your strongest characters. Eden is one of the most powerful Guardian Forces in the game and can deal tremendous damage when summoned. The Deep Sea Research Center is also an excellent place to prepare for Omega Weapon by collecting valuable magic and strengthening your party. If you haven't already obtained Bahamut, completing this dungeon allows you to earn both Guardian Force trophies during the same visit.
Warning
Eden must be drawn from Ultima Weapon. Defeating the boss without drawing Eden won't automatically award the Guardian Force. If you miss Eden during this encounter, you have a second opportunity to draw it from Tiamat inside Ultimecia's Castle. However, obtaining Eden from Ultima Weapon is recommended because you'll have access to its abilities earlier. Don't confuse Ultima Weapon with Omega Weapon. They are separate optional bosses encountered in different locations. Managing the steam pressure units incorrectly can complicate access to the lower dungeon, so plan your descent carefully. The original Deep Sea Research Center probably had a perfectly reasonable scientific purpose. Unfortunately, its current operating procedures involve giant dragons, ancient machinery, and a monster carrying one of the strongest summons in the game. Shinra would love this place.

Trophy: Leviathan
Unlock Guardian Force Leviathan
Type: Silver
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Obtain the Guardian Force Leviathan by drawing it from NORG during the confrontation beneath Balamb Garden. During the story, Squall returns to Balamb Garden and becomes involved in a conflict surrounding its leadership. Progress through the Garden's basement until you reach NORG's chamber. The boss battle begins with NORG concealed inside a protective pod, accompanied by two supporting devices. Attack the central NORG Pod until it breaks open and exposes NORG himself. Once NORG is visible, select the Draw command and examine his available magic. Leviathan will appear among the available Draw options. Select Leviathan and choose Stock to obtain the Guardian Force. The trophy unlocks immediately after Leviathan is successfully drawn. You can then finish the battle and continue through the story.
Tip
Make sure at least one party member has Draw equipped before starting the encounter. The two side devices change color during battle. Attacking them helps control their activity and reduce the threat they pose. Leviathan can learn useful support abilities, including Recover, which restores a character's HP without consuming stocked magic. Leviathan also provides valuable Junction options as you strengthen your party for later encounters.
Warning
You cannot draw Leviathan from the protective pod at the start of the fight. You must damage the central pod enough to expose NORG. If you defeat NORG without drawing Leviathan, you'll lose your first opportunity. A second chance is available by drawing Leviathan from Trauma inside Ultimecia's Castle. However, the safest approach is to obtain Leviathan during the original story encounter rather than relying on the late-game alternative. NORG spent a considerable amount of money building a secret underground chamber and an elaborate protective machine. Unfortunately, neither investment prevents Squall from stealing a legendary sea serpent during the fight.

Trophy: Obel Lake Secret
Complete the Obel Lake side quest
Type: Gold
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Complete the Obel Lake sidequest by solving its mysterious clues and discovering the hidden treasures. The easiest time to complete this quest is after obtaining the Ragnarok airship, which allows you to travel freely between the required locations. First, travel to Obel Lake, the horseshoe-shaped lake north of Timber. Approach the small peninsula extending into the lake and interact with the water. Choose the option to hum repeatedly until a mysterious shadow appears. Speak with the creature to learn about its missing friend, Mr. Monkey, and receive clues concerning several unusual rocks. Before searching for Mr. Monkey, interact with the lake again and repeatedly choose Throw a Rock until the game indicates that your stone skipped many times. Next, travel to the forest near Dollet and search for Mr. Monkey. After finding him, return to Obel Lake and speak with the shadow again. You'll now need to collect four special rocks. One is obtained through the interaction with Mr. Monkey after successfully skipping a stone many times at the lake. Another is found on a small island near the bridge east of Timber, around Mandy Beach. The third is located along Rinaul Coast, south of Balamb. The fourth is found by searching the Monterosa Plateau near Galbadia and Timber. Return to Obel Lake with all four rocks. The shadow will help reveal a hidden message directing you toward Mordred Plains, north of Esthar. Travel there using Ragnarok and search the ground. You'll encounter several colored rocks that provide directions. Pay attention to the red rocks, but follow the opposite direction from what they tell you. Continue searching until you uncover the hidden Three Stars item. Return to Obel Lake and speak with the shadow again to investigate its remaining clues. The final important destination is Minde Island, located southwest of Esthar. Land on the island with Ragnarok and search the ground until you discover the Luck-J Scroll. Finding the final treasure completes the Obel Lake sidequest and unlocks Obel Lake Secret.
Tip
Save before beginning the quest and keep a separate save during your late-game cleanup. Ragnarok makes the treasure hunt significantly easier because several locations are difficult or impossible to reach with earlier transportation. You can complete the sidequest without fighting powerful optional bosses, so it's a useful objective to tackle while collecting other world-map trophies. The remaster's No Encounters feature can help you explore without interruptions.
Warning
Complete Obel Lake Secret before entering the late-game point of no return associated with Lunatic Pandora and Time Compression. Finding Mr. Monkey isn't enough to complete the quest. You must continue through the rock clues and uncover the final treasure. The red rocks at Mordred Plains deliberately provide misleading directions. Following their instructions literally will send you away from the treasure. Make sure you obtain the Luck-J Scroll on Minde Island rather than stopping after discovering Three Stars. Squall can confront heavily armed soldiers and powerful sorceresses without hesitation, but apparently an unusually talkative lake is what finally turns him into a full-time treasure hunter.

Trophy: Pandemona
Unlock Guardian Force Pandemona
Type: Silver
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Obtain the Guardian Force Pandemona by drawing it from Fujin during the battle against Fujin and Raijin in Balamb. After Balamb Garden becomes mobile, the main story eventually brings Squall and his companions back to Balamb, which has been occupied by Galbadian soldiers. Investigate the town and progress through the events involving Raijin and Fujin. You'll first confront Raijin, followed by a battle against Fujin and Raijin together outside Balamb Hotel. During the second encounter, make sure at least one character has the Draw command equipped. Select Draw and target Fujin, the female opponent. Pandemona will appear among Fujin's available Draw options. Select Pandemona and choose Stock to obtain the Guardian Force. The trophy unlocks immediately after successfully drawing Pandemona. Once you've obtained it, finish the battle normally and continue the story.
Tip
Save before entering the final confrontation at Balamb Hotel. Inspect Fujin's Draw list immediately rather than waiting until she's nearly defeated. Pandemona is a Wind-element Guardian Force with useful abilities, including Spd-J, which lets you junction magic to a character's Speed statistic. Strong Speed Junctions are particularly valuable later in the game because they allow characters to take actions more frequently.
Warning
Pandemona must be drawn from Fujin, not Raijin. If you defeat Fujin without drawing Pandemona, you'll miss the Guardian Force during this encounter. Your second opportunity is to draw Pandemona from Red Giant inside Ultimecia's Castle. Although that backup exists, collecting Pandemona during the Balamb encounter is strongly recommended. Don't mistake the earlier solo battle against Raijin for the encounter containing Pandemona. You need the subsequent fight involving both opponents. Fujin already has enough trouble dealing with Raijin's enthusiasm. Now Squall arrives and steals her magical wind spirit. Balamb's occupation is going very badly.

Trophy: Siren
Unlock Guardian Force Siren
Type: Bronze
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Obtain the Guardian Force Siren by drawing her from Elvoret during the Dollet SeeD examination. During the SeeD field mission, Squall, Zell, and Seifer travel to Dollet to fight Galbadian forces. Progress through the city and climb the communications tower. At the top, you'll initially battle Biggs and Wedge. After dealing enough damage, Elvoret appears and replaces them as the main boss. This is your first major opportunity to obtain a missable Guardian Force. Before defeating Elvoret, select the Draw command and examine its available magic. Siren will appear among the available Draw options. Select Siren and choose Stock to acquire the Guardian Force. The trophy unlocks immediately after Siren is successfully drawn. You can then finish the battle normally and continue the mission.
Tip
Make a manual save before entering the communications tower. Always equip Draw on at least one active character before boss fights. Several Guardian Forces are obtained exclusively through this mechanic. Siren can learn Move-Find, which reveals hidden draw points and save points throughout the game. This ability is particularly useful for discovering powerful magic and preparing for difficult encounters later in the story.
Warning
Siren is missable during the Dollet mission. If you defeat Elvoret without drawing her, you'll lose your first opportunity. There is a second chance to obtain Siren from Tri-Point inside Ultimecia's Castle, but this occurs very late in the game. The safest approach is to collect her immediately rather than depending on that backup opportunity. Don't confuse drawing ordinary magic from Elvoret with obtaining Siren. You must specifically select the Guardian Force. The SeeD examination already involves fighting an enormous flying monster. Naturally, the examiners also expect you to remember to steal its magical companion before defeating it.

Trophy: Timber Maniacs
Collect all Timber Maniacs magazines
Type: Gold
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Collect all 12 Timber Maniacs magazines scattered throughout the game. Timber Maniacs magazines are collectible publications found in towns, hotels, and several story locations. Most remain accessible until the late-game point of no return, but the magazine aboard the White SeeD Ship is available only during a limited story sequence. To unlock the trophy, collect one magazine from each of the following 12 locations. 1. Balamb Hotel — Enter the hotel and go upstairs. The magazine is on a table in the guest room. 2. Timber Maniacs Office — Visit the publishing office in Timber. The magazine is on the floor between stacks of books in the main office area. 3. Timber Hotel — Pay for a room and inspect the round table inside to collect the magazine. 4. Dollet Hotel — Enter the hotel guest room and examine the table to find the magazine. 5. Dollet Pub — Go upstairs to the second floor and inspect the card table in the lower-left area. 6. Deling City Hotel — Pay for a room and inspect the floor near the foot of the central bed. 7. Fisherman's Horizon Hotel — Go upstairs and inspect the area near the bookcase in the guest room. 8. Fisherman's Horizon, Grease Monkey's House — Visit the house near the area where you rescue Mayor Dobe. The magazine is inside. 9. Shumi Village — Enter the Artisan's house and examine the bed. 10. Trabia Garden — Search the graveyard area near the central gravestones and draw point. The magazine is lying on the ground. 11. Edea's Orphanage — Enter the building and inspect the floor along the right-hand wall near the entrance. 12. White SeeD Ship — During the story visit to the White SeeD Ship, head up the stairs toward the bridge and collect the magazine lying on the left side. After collecting all 12 magazines, Timber Maniacs unlocks automatically.
Tip
Collect each magazine the first time you visit its location rather than leaving everything for late-game cleanup. The White SeeD Ship magazine deserves special attention. Once you board the ship and finish the relevant conversations, visit the bridge before progressing the story. You can check Laguna's articles through Selphie's computer at Balamb Garden to help identify which magazines you've already collected. Create a separate manual save before the White SeeD Ship sequence in case you accidentally leave without picking up its magazine.
Warning
The White SeeD Ship magazine is permanently missable once you leave the ship during the relevant story sequence. Most other magazines can be collected later, but you must obtain them before progressing beyond the late-game point of no return, when normal access to towns becomes restricted. Don't confuse Timber Maniacs magazines with Weapons Monthly or other collectible publications. Only the 12 Timber Maniacs issues count. There are alternate possible placements for the Balamb issue depending on earlier events, but only one copy is required. Make sure you've physically collected each magazine. Simply visiting its location doesn't count. Squall has fought monsters, survived military operations, and confronted sorceresses. Yet his Platinum journey can still be destroyed by forgetting a travel magazine on a boat. The true final boss is apparently responsible reading.

Trophy: Tonberry
Unlock Guardian Force Tonberry
Type: Silver
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Obtain the Guardian Force Tonberry by defeating Tonberry King inside Centra Ruins. Centra Ruins is an optional dungeon located on the Centra continent. You can reach it once Balamb Garden becomes mobile, although returning later with Ragnarok is also convenient. Enter the ruins and begin hunting regular Tonberry enemies. You'll need to defeat approximately 20 Tonberries before Tonberry King appears. In some cases, additional kills may be necessary. A convenient farming location is the area near the fountain and statue inside the ruins. Tonberries have substantial HP and are dangerous at close range. Their signature Chef's Knife attack can inflict heavy damage, so use your strongest physical attacks, magic, and Limit Breaks to defeat them efficiently. Continue defeating Tonberries until Tonberry King appears immediately after one of your victories. Unlike ordinary Tonberries, Tonberry King is much larger and wears a crown. This optional boss has significant HP and powerful attacks, so keep your party healthy while dealing consistent damage. Use strong Strength Junctions and Limit Breaks to shorten the encounter. After defeating Tonberry King, the Tonberry Guardian Force joins your collection and the trophy unlocks.
Tip
You don't need to defeat Odin to obtain Tonberry. The 20-minute timer inside Centra Ruins is associated with Odin's optional quest, not the Tonberry King requirement. If the timer expires and you're forced outside, you can return and continue hunting Tonberries without losing your previous kill progress. However, defeating Odin first removes the timer and makes Tonberry farming more convenient. Tonberry provides useful shopping-related abilities, including Call Shop and Haggle, which can help with your remaining trophy preparation. The remaster's 3× Speed and Battle Assist features can also reduce the time required to defeat repeated Tonberry encounters.
Warning
You must defeat Tonberry King to unlock the trophy. Defeating approximately 20 ordinary Tonberries only triggers the opportunity to encounter him. Tonberry King appears immediately after a regular Tonberry battle, so make sure your party is prepared before reaching the required kill count. Don't confuse Odin with Tonberry. Both are associated with Centra Ruins, but they have separate acquisition requirements. Complete this objective before the late-game point of no return restricts access to the ruins. Tonberries are small, slow-moving creatures carrying kitchen knives. After defeating enough of them, their king arrives to settle the matter personally. Apparently, the Tonberry monarchy takes customer complaints very seriously.

Trophy: UFO
Complete the PuPu side quest
Type: Silver
Category: Missable
How to Unlock
Complete the optional PuPu sidequest by investigating four UFO sightings, defeating the UFO, and encountering the mysterious alien PuPu. This sidequest can be completed after obtaining Ragnarok, which makes reaching the required locations considerably easier. Before beginning, consider collecting five Elixirs if you want to receive PuPu's rare Triple Triad card. The sidequest begins with four special UFO encounters scattered throughout the world map. These encounters occur in specific regions and show a flying saucer carrying unusual objects. You don't need to fight the UFO during these first four sightings. Simply triggering each encounter is sufficient. Visit the following locations: 1. Winhill Bluffs — Travel to the grassy region surrounding Winhill and move around until the UFO encounter occurs. 2. Mandy Beach — Travel to the beach northeast of Timber and explore until you witness another UFO sighting. 3. Kashkabald Desert — Visit the desert region south of Esthar and continue moving until the UFO appears. 4. Heath Peninsula — Travel to the eastern side of Trabia, near the small island east of the peninsula, and trigger the fourth sighting. After witnessing all four encounters, travel to the Grandidi Forest region northeast of Esthar. Use Ragnarok to land on the elevated terrain north of the Chocobo Sanctuary. Move around the plateau until you encounter the UFO again. This time, you'll enter a battle against the flying saucer. Defeat the UFO to continue the sidequest. Next, return to the Balamb region and visit the location where Balamb Garden originally stood before becoming mobile. Explore the area until you encounter PuPu, the small blue alien responsible for the UFO sightings. During the encounter, PuPu asks for Elixirs. Give PuPu five Elixirs to complete the encounter peacefully and receive the PuPu Triple Triad card. The UFO trophy unlocks after completing the final encounter. Alternatively, defeating PuPu also awards the trophy, but you won't receive its rare card.
Tip
Use the remaster's 3× Speed feature to make traveling between the required locations faster. Keep No Encounters disabled while searching for UFO sightings, since they occur through special world-map encounters. You can obtain five Elixirs through shops, refinement abilities, or Card Mod. One particularly generous method is refining the Angelo card into 100 Elixirs using Card Mod, although doing so sacrifices the card. If you want to preserve Angelo, consider obtaining Elixirs through shops instead. Giving PuPu five Elixirs is recommended because it provides both the trophy and a rare collectible card. You don't need to complete the entire Triple Triad card collection for the Platinum, but obtaining PuPu's card is a satisfying bonus.
Warning
You must witness all four initial UFO sightings before the battle near Grandidi Forest becomes available. Simply visiting the four locations without triggering their encounters doesn't count. Defeating the UFO near Grandidi Forest isn't the final step. You must subsequently encounter PuPu near the former Balamb Garden location. Keep No Encounters turned off while searching for both the UFO sightings and PuPu. If you defeat PuPu instead of giving him Elixirs, you'll still earn UFO, but you'll permanently miss the opportunity to obtain his rare card through this encounter. Complete the entire sidequest before the late-game point of no return restricts access to the world map. Squall has fought sorceresses, monsters, dragons, and military armies, but the universe apparently decided he also needed to investigate alien abductions. At least PuPu is polite enough to ask for healing items before leaving.

Trophy: 100 Kills
Kill 100 enemies
Type: Bronze
Category: Grind
How to Unlock
Defeat a total of 100 enemies. This trophy tracks your accumulated enemy kills throughout Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. You'll naturally encounter enemies while exploring the world map, progressing through dungeons, and completing story missions. Defeat enemies using physical attacks, magic, Limit Breaks, or Guardian Forces to increase your total. You don't need to defeat 100 different enemy types. Repeatedly defeating the same type of enemy counts. One convenient early location is the area surrounding Balamb Garden, where enemies are relatively manageable. Continue fighting encounters until your cumulative total reaches 100. 100 Kills unlocks automatically when you've defeated enough enemies.
Tip
Work toward this trophy alongside Magician, which requires stocking magic from enemies 100 times using Draw. You can also earn AP for Guardian Force abilities while defeating enemies, making regular encounters useful for several progression objectives. Use the remaster's 3× Speed feature to accelerate battles without disabling trophies. After becoming a SeeD, obtain the Battle Meter from Headmaster Cid to begin tracking combat statistics.
Warning
The No Encounters booster prevents random encounters, so disable it whenever you're working toward enemy kills. Don't confuse winning 100 battles with defeating 100 enemies. A battle containing several enemies can contribute multiple kills. Guardian Force defeats and successful Card conversions can also contribute to the kill total, but enemies that flee or escape don't count. This trophy contributes toward 1000 Kills, so your progress continues after reaching the first milestone. Squall's official SeeD duties apparently include defeating 100 monsters. Nobody mentioned whether there's a performance bonus, but at least the trophy department is keeping score.
Trophy: 1000 Kills
Kill 1000 enemies
Type: Silver
Category: Grind
How to Unlock
Defeat a cumulative total of 1,000 enemies. This trophy expands on the earlier 100 Kills requirement and counts enemy defeats throughout your playthrough. You don't need to defeat 1,000 different enemies or win 1,000 separate battles. Every qualifying enemy defeat contributes toward the total. Progress through the main story and optional areas while defeating enemies regularly. Physical attacks, magic, Limit Breaks, and Guardian Force summons can all help accumulate kills. Successful Card conversions also count toward the total. You may need to spend additional time grinding, particularly if you've frequently used the No Encounters booster or avoided random battles. For a straightforward farming location, return to the fields surrounding Balamb Garden and repeatedly defeat the relatively manageable enemies. Alternatively, visit Cactuar Island to earn useful AP for Guardian Forces while working toward your kill total. Continue fighting until your cumulative total reaches 1,000. The trophy unlocks automatically after your 1,000th qualifying enemy defeat.
Tip
You can track your progress using the Battle Meter and its optional upgrades. After becoming a SeeD, speak with Headmaster Cid in his office to obtain the Battle Meter. Later, during the D-District Prison sequence, you can win the Character Report upgrade by defeating the card player on Floor 10. The Character Report shows individual character kill statistics, making it easier to monitor your progress. Defeating Joker from the CC Group also provides a Guardian Force report upgrade. Access these reports through Tutorials, Information, and then Information again. Add the relevant kill totals together to estimate your cumulative progress. The remaster's 3× Speed feature can significantly reduce grinding time.
Warning
The No Encounters booster prevents the random battles needed for efficient kill farming, so turn it off while pursuing this trophy. Enemies that escape or flee before being defeated don't contribute to your kill total. Using Card successfully counts, but merely attempting Card without converting the enemy doesn't. Don't confuse battles won with enemies defeated. A single encounter containing three defeated monsters can contribute three kills. Because the total is fairly large, don't assume you'll earn this trophy automatically during the main story. If you're planning to fight Omega Weapon, consider doing extensive kill grinding afterward or using a pre-boss save, since leveling increases many enemies' strength. One hundred defeated enemies earns Squall a trophy. One thousand earns him another. Somewhere in Balamb Garden, an administrator is wondering why the monster population has suddenly collapsed.

Trophy: Magic Miner
Draw magic 100 times from draw points
Type: Silver
Category: Grind
How to Unlock
Draw magic from environmental draw points a total of 100 times. Throughout Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, you'll discover glowing draw points containing magic that can be stocked and used for spellcasting or Junctions. Unlike Magician, which requires drawing magic from enemies during battle, Magic Miner specifically requires using draw points found while exploring. To begin, make sure at least one character has a Guardian Force junctioned and the Draw command equipped. Approach a glowing draw point, interact with it, and choose a character to receive the magic. Each successful interaction counts as one draw, regardless of how many individual spells you receive. Continue using draw points throughout the story until you've completed 100 successful draws. You don't need to find 100 unique locations. Draw points replenish after a period of time, allowing you to revisit previously used locations. Once you've completed your 100th successful draw from a draw point, Magic Miner unlocks automatically.
Tip
Develop the habit of checking towns, dungeons, and optional areas for draw points whenever you explore. Siren's Move-Find ability reveals hidden draw points, including several containing valuable magic. After obtaining Ragnarok, visit the Island Closest to Heaven and the Island Closest to Hell. Both islands contain numerous hidden draw points with powerful spells such as Ultima, Meteor, and Triple. Using the No Encounters booster makes exploring these dangerous locations much easier, and it doesn't disable trophies. You can work toward Magic Miner while collecting strong magic for Maximum HP and preparing for Omega Weapon.
Warning
Drawing magic from enemies during combat doesn't count toward Magic Miner. Those actions contribute to Magician instead. A draw point must have replenished before it can be used again. The trophy tracks successful draw actions, not the total number of individual spells collected. Some draw points are hidden and require Move-Find to become visible. Don't assume you've completed the requirement simply because your characters are carrying hundreds of spells. Squall has spent the entire adventure collecting magic from monsters, but apparently that isn't enough. Now he needs to investigate every suspicious glowing patch of ground in the world. SeeD training includes a surprising amount of geology.

Trophy: Magician
Draw (Stock) magic from enemies 100 times
Type: Silver
Category: Grind
How to Unlock
Use the Draw command to stock magic from enemies 100 times. The Draw system is one of the most important mechanics in Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. Instead of learning spells permanently, characters collect magic from enemies and use it for casting or strengthening their statistics through Junctions. First, junction a Guardian Force to a character and make sure the Draw command is equipped in one of their available command slots. During battle, select Draw and choose an available spell from an enemy. Select Stock to add the magic to your character's inventory. Repeat this process until you've successfully stocked magic from enemies 100 times. You don't need to draw 100 different spells or fight 100 different enemies. Repeatedly drawing the same spell from the same enemy type counts. The trophy unlocks automatically after your 100th successful Draw action that stocks magic.
Tip
Begin working toward Magician immediately after obtaining Quezacotl and Shiva. Collecting magic is essential for improving your Junctions, so this trophy should fit naturally into your early-game preparation. Try to build stocks of 100 useful spells whenever possible. Larger quantities generally provide stronger statistical bonuses when junctioned. You can also combine this objective with 100 Kills by drawing magic before defeating enemies.
Warning
You must select Stock when using Draw. Choosing Cast to immediately use the spell doesn't count toward this trophy. Each successful Draw action counts once, regardless of how many individual spells you receive. Drawing magic from environmental draw points contributes toward Magic Miner instead, not Magician. If Draw isn't appearing in your battle commands, check that you've junctioned a Guardian Force and equipped the Draw command. Squall can absorb magic directly from monsters, which makes studying spellbooks seem rather unnecessary. Balamb Garden's magic curriculum probably consists of pointing at enemies and saying, "Take that."

Trophy: Maximum HP
Reach maximum HP
Type: Bronze
Category: Grind
How to Unlock
Reach 9,999 HP with any playable character. In Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, your character's maximum HP is determined by their level, Guardian Force abilities, and the magic you've junctioned to the HP statistic. The easiest method is to combine HP-J with a large stock of powerful magic and percentage-based HP bonuses. First, junction a Guardian Force that provides HP-J, such as Ifrit, Brothers, Diablos, Quezacotl, or Carbuncle. Open the Junction menu and assign a strong spell to the character's HP statistic. Full-Life, Meteor, and Ultima are especially effective. Having 100 copies of the selected spell provides the greatest benefit. Next, equip percentage-based HP abilities such as HP+20%, HP+40%, or HP+80%, depending on which Guardian Forces you've developed. These bonuses can be combined to increase your character's maximum HP further. Once any character reaches 9,999 HP, Maximum HP unlocks.
Tip
Brothers and Diablos are particularly useful because they can learn multiple HP-boosting abilities. You can obtain Ultima magic from the draw point in Shumi Village, although each use costs 5,000 gil. Full-Life is another excellent option if you've already collected a substantial stock. You don't need to reach level 100. Strong Junctions can push a relatively low-level character to the HP cap.
Warning
The trophy requires a maximum HP value of 9,999, not necessarily 9,999 current HP. Make sure HP-J is available and that you've equipped your HP-boosting abilities rather than simply teaching them to a Guardian Force. If your HP drops below 9,999 after casting a junctioned spell, restore the stock or switch to another powerful spell. Squall doesn't need to visit a gym or eat healthier. Apparently, stuffing his pockets with a hundred magical spells is enough to become nearly indestructible.

Trophy: Top Rank
Reach SeeD rank A
Type: Silver
Category: Grind
How to Unlock
Reach SeeD Rank A, the highest SeeD rank available in Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. After completing the Dollet field examination, Squall officially becomes a SeeD and receives an initial rank based on his performance. Your SeeD rank determines how much gil you receive through regular salary payments. The highest rank is A, equivalent to Rank 31. There are several ways to improve your SeeD rank, including defeating enemies and completing written SeeD examinations. The fastest and most reliable method is to complete the written examinations available through the game's Tutorials menu. Open the main menu, select Tutorials, and choose TEST. Each examination consists of 10 Yes-or-No questions. Answer all 10 questions correctly to pass the examination and increase your SeeD rank by one. There are 30 examinations in total, but you can only access examinations up to Squall's current character level. For example, if Squall is level 20, you can take examinations 1 through 20. Continue increasing Squall's level if you need access to additional examinations. Once your SeeD rank reaches A, Top Rank unlocks automatically.
Tip
You can use the following answer key to complete all 30 SeeD examinations. Y means Yes, and N means No. Exam 01: Y N Y Y Y N N Y N N Exam 02: Y N Y Y Y N Y Y N N Exam 03: N N Y N Y Y Y N Y N Exam 04: N Y Y Y N N Y Y N N Exam 05: N N N Y Y N N Y Y Y Exam 06: Y N Y Y N N Y Y N Y Exam 07: Y Y Y Y Y Y N Y Y N Exam 08: N Y N N Y Y N N Y N Exam 09: N Y N N N N N N Y Y Exam 10: Y N N N N N N N Y N Exam 11: Y Y N Y Y N Y N N Y Exam 12: N Y N N Y N Y N Y N Exam 13: Y N N N Y N N N N N Exam 14: Y Y Y Y N Y Y N Y N Exam 15: Y Y N N N N N Y N Y Exam 16: Y N N Y N Y N N Y N Exam 17: Y N N N Y N N Y N N Exam 18: Y N N N Y N N N N N Exam 19: Y N N Y N N N N N Y Exam 20: Y Y N Y N Y Y Y N N Exam 21: Y Y Y Y N N Y Y Y N Exam 22: N N N Y N N N Y Y N Exam 23: Y N N N N Y Y Y Y Y Exam 24: Y Y N N Y Y N N N Y Exam 25: Y N Y Y Y N N Y N N Exam 26: Y Y N Y N Y N Y N N Exam 27: N Y N N N N Y N Y N Exam 28: Y N N Y Y Y N Y N N Exam 29: N N N Y Y N N N Y N Exam 30: N Y N N N N Y N N N Completing the examinations in sequence provides a substantial rank increase. If your initial SeeD rank is already above the minimum, you may reach Rank A before completing every available examination.
Warning
Your SeeD rank can decrease over time as salary payments are issued, so it's possible to lose rank if you delay completing the necessary examinations. To avoid this, consider saving your examinations until you can complete enough of them consecutively to reach Rank A. Passing an examination requires all 10 answers to be correct. Nine correct answers won't increase your rank. You cannot access an examination numbered higher than Squall's current character level. However, your overall SeeD rank can exceed Squall's character level. You don't need to reach level 100 or defeat Omega Weapon to earn Top Rank. Squall has survived military operations, fought powerful monsters, and traveled through space. But to reach the highest professional rank, he still needs to pass a series of multiple-choice examinations. Some things never change.

Trophy: Omega Destroyed
Beat the Omega Weapon
Type: Gold
Category: Combat
How to Unlock
Defeat Omega Weapon, the powerful optional superboss hidden inside Ultimecia's Castle. Omega Weapon is one of the most challenging encounters in Final Fantasy VIII Remastered and becomes accessible during the final portion of the game. Before entering Ultimecia's Castle, prepare your strongest party and ensure you've collected the Guardian Forces, magic, and equipment needed for a difficult battle. Strong Junctions are essential. Aim for 9,999 HP on your active characters, high Strength, strong defensive statistics, and effective Speed Junctions. Junction 100 Death spells to Status Defense to protect against Omega's opening Lv 5 Death attack, particularly if a character's level is divisible by five. Obtain Hero or Holy War items if possible. These provide temporary invincibility and can make the encounter considerably safer. Card Mod can refine the Laguna card into 100 Hero items or the Gilgamesh card into 10 Holy Wars. Aura magic is also extremely useful because it allows characters to access their Limit Breaks more reliably. Once prepared, enter Ultimecia's Castle. Omega Weapon is summoned through a timed mechanism involving the castle's two playable parties. Position your primary battle party at the party-switching point near the fountain outside the chapel. Switch to your secondary party and travel to the stairway hall near the art gallery. Locate the rope hanging near the lower section of the stairs and interact with it to ring the bell. This starts a 60-second countdown. Quickly return to the nearby party-switching point and switch back to your primary party. Run north from the fountain into the chapel. Omega Weapon will now be present. Approach the boss before the countdown expires to begin the encounter. Omega begins with Lv 5 Death and then uses a series of devastating attacks. Megiddo Flame deals 9,998 damage to the party, while Terra Break delivers multiple extremely powerful physical hits. Omega can also use Gravija, Meteor, Ultima, and Light Pillar. Start by applying Aura to your attackers, then use Hero items or Holy War to protect your party. Focus on powerful Limit Breaks, including Squall's Renzokuken and Lion Heart finisher if available. Use Meltdown to reduce Omega's Vitality and increase your physical damage. Maintain invincibility whenever possible, refresh Aura when necessary, and continue attacking until Omega Weapon is defeated. Omega Destroyed unlocks after winning the battle.
Tip
Squall's Lion Heart weapon is especially valuable because its associated Limit Break finisher can deal enormous damage. Junction Triple to Speed for faster ATB recovery, and equip Auto-Haste if available. Use Protect or the Defend ability to reduce damage from Terra Break when you're not protected by invincibility. The Hero strategy is particularly effective because it allows your characters to survive Omega's devastating attacks while repeatedly using Limit Breaks. Apply Aura and other beneficial magic before activating Hero or Holy War, since invincible characters cannot receive additional spell buffs while the effect is active. Omega absorbs elemental damage, so remove offensive elemental Junctions that could accidentally heal the boss. Save immediately before attempting the encounter.
Warning
Omega Weapon is optional. Defeating Ultimecia and finishing the story won't automatically unlock this trophy. Make sure you defeat Omega before completing the final boss encounter. The 60-second countdown only controls how long Omega remains available to initiate the battle. Once combat begins, you're no longer racing against that timer. Be especially careful with Lv 5 Death. Any unprotected character whose level is a multiple of five can be killed immediately. Megiddo Flame deals 9,998 damage, meaning characters below 9,999 current HP won't survive without suitable protection. Omega's health scales with party levels and can reach approximately two million HP, so high-level characters don't necessarily make the encounter easier. The remaster's gameplay boosters don't disable trophies. Battle Assist can reduce the difficulty considerably if you choose to use it. After traveling through time, defeating countless monsters, and challenging powerful sorceresses, Squall finally encounters Omega Weapon. Apparently, the developers decided the final boss wasn't enough and added something capable of deleting your entire party before anyone gets a turn.

Trophy: Card Player
Play Triple Triad
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
How to Unlock
Play your first game of Triple Triad. Triple Triad is the collectible card game featured throughout Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. You can begin playing almost immediately after the opening classroom sequence at Balamb Garden. After obtaining Quezacotl and Shiva, leave the classroom and head toward the second-floor elevator. Speak with the student standing near the elevator to receive seven free Triple Triad cards. Once you have your starting cards, approach another student or NPC who accepts card challenges. Press Square while facing the character to initiate a Triple Triad match. Accept the challenge, select five cards from your collection, and play the match to completion. Card Player unlocks after finishing your first Triple Triad game. You don't need to win.
Tip
Learn the basic card rules early because Triple Triad is also required for Loser and Cards Club Master. Each card has four numbers representing its strength on the corresponding sides. Place cards strategically to capture opposing cards and finish with more cards under your control. Winning powerful Guardian Force cards, such as Ifrit and Diablos, will make later opponents considerably easier.
Warning
Simply collecting cards or receiving the starting deck doesn't unlock the trophy. You must actually play a Triple Triad match. Make sure you're pressing Square to challenge an NPC rather than using the ordinary conversation button. Save before playing for valuable cards, especially when unfamiliar regional rules are active. Squall may dislike conversations, but apparently challenging complete strangers to card games is perfectly acceptable. Whatever.
Trophy: Chocobo
Capture a Chocobo
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
How to Unlock
Capture a Chocobo in one of the Chocobo Forests scattered around the world map. Chocobo Forests are recognizable by their small, rounded, dome-shaped appearance. Once you reach one, enter the forest and speak with Chocoboy, the young Chocobo-catching instructor. He'll introduce the ChocoWhis, which has two functions: ChocoSonar and ChocoZiner. ChocoSonar helps locate hidden Chicobos in the trees, while ChocoZiner calls them down when used in the correct position. Your goal is to manipulate the Chicobos until only one remains on the ground. Once a single Chicobo is present, approach it and interact with it. The mother Chocobo will arrive, allowing you to capture and ride her. Chocobo unlocks once you've successfully captured the adult Chocobo. If you'd prefer to avoid the puzzle, Chocoboy can also catch one for you for a fee.
Tip
The Chocobo Forest near Shumi Village is a convenient option once you can reach the Trabia region. Use ChocoSonar to identify the correct locations before activating ChocoZiner. Listen carefully to the sonar signals. Stronger, more frequent signals indicate that you're approaching a suitable position. You can also ask Chocoboy for assistance if you're having trouble understanding the puzzle.
Warning
Using ChocoZiner in an incorrect location can cause the Chicobos to steal your whistle, forcing you to purchase another one. You must successfully summon the mother Chocobo. Simply entering a forest or calling several Chicobos down doesn't unlock the trophy. Finding buried treasure in the Chocobo Forest is optional and isn't required for Chocobo. Squall is trained to pilot military vehicles and fight dangerous monsters, but catching one oversized yellow bird somehow requires specialized equipment and a consultation fee.

Trophy: Handyman
Upgrade your weapon
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
How to Unlock
Upgrade any character's weapon at a Junk Shop. Unlike many traditional Final Fantasy games, Final Fantasy VIII Remastered doesn't primarily rely on purchasing stronger weapons directly. Instead, weapons are upgraded by collecting the required materials and visiting a Junk Shop. Weapons Monthly magazines provide information about different upgrades and their material requirements, although you can perform an upgrade whenever you've collected the necessary components. One of the easiest early upgrades is Squall's Shear Trigger. You'll need four Screws and one Steel Pipe. Screws can be obtained from Geezard enemies or by using Quezacotl's Card Mod ability on Geezard cards. Steel Pipes can be obtained from Wendigos or refined from Elastoid cards through Card Mod. Once you've collected the required materials, visit a Junk Shop, such as the one in Balamb. Select Squall, choose Shear Trigger, and confirm the upgrade. Handyman unlocks immediately after successfully upgrading the weapon.
Tip
Prioritize learning Quezacotl's Card ability followed by Card Mod. These abilities allow you to obtain useful materials by transforming Triple Triad cards into items. You don't need to collect every Weapons Monthly magazine to earn this trophy. Weapon upgrades improve your characters' combat capabilities, and Squall's later upgrades also unlock additional finishers for his Renzokuken Limit Break.
Warning
Simply obtaining the required materials doesn't unlock Handyman. You must visit a Junk Shop and complete an actual upgrade. Weapons Monthly magazines provide recipes and guidance, but possessing a particular magazine isn't always required if you've already obtained the correct materials. You only need to upgrade one weapon once for this trophy. Crafting every character's ultimate weapon isn't necessary. Squall can defeat magical creatures and military soldiers, but upgrading his sword apparently requires four screws and a steel pipe. Even legendary weapons have hardware-store origins.
Trophy: Loser
Lose a rare card in a Triple Triad game
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
How to Unlock
Lose a rare card during a game of Triple Triad. Triple Triad allows you to challenge NPCs throughout Final Fantasy VIII Remastered and wager cards based on the active trading rules. For this trophy, you must deliberately lose a rare Guardian Force or character card to another player. One of the easiest opportunities comes shortly after defeating Ifrit in the Fire Cavern. Defeating Ifrit awards his rare Triple Triad card, giving you a convenient card to use for the trophy. First, create a separate manual save so you can recover your card afterward. Find an NPC who plays Triple Triad, preferably someone in Balamb Garden using the simple early-game rules. Start a match and include the Ifrit card alongside four weaker cards. Play poorly on purpose, allowing your opponent to capture enough cards to win. After the match, your opponent may select a card from your collection depending on the active trade rule. If the opponent takes your Ifrit card, Loser unlocks. Once you've earned the trophy, reload your earlier save to recover the card.
Tip
Use a rare Guardian Force card rather than sacrificing an ordinary monster card. The Ifrit card is a convenient option because you'll receive it through mandatory story progression. Save immediately before attempting the trophy and reload afterward. This allows you to unlock Loser without permanently sacrificing a valuable card. If the opponent doesn't select your rare card, reload and repeat the attempt.
Warning
Simply losing a Triple Triad match isn't enough. Your opponent must actually take one of your rare cards. The active trading rule affects which cards can be lost. Under the One rule, your opponent selects only one card, so losing the match doesn't guarantee the correct card will be taken. Be careful when playing under unfamiliar regional rules, as they can make it more difficult to control the outcome. Don't use Card Mod to destroy your only convenient rare card before obtaining this trophy. Squall spends most of the game trying to win. For this trophy, he must deliberately lose at cards. Somewhere, Seifer is absolutely delighted.
Trophy: End of Game
Finish the game
Type: Gold
Category: Story
How to Unlock
Complete the main story of Final Fantasy VIII Remastered by defeating Ultimecia. After finishing the required events in Lunatic Pandora and progressing through Time Compression, Squall and his companions arrive in the future. Your final destination is Ultimecia's Castle. Explore the castle and defeat its optional guardians to restore your party's sealed abilities. Although you can challenge Ultimecia without recovering every ability, unlocking your important combat commands makes the final encounter considerably easier. Before entering the final boss chamber, prepare all six playable characters with useful Guardian Forces and magic. Ultimecia's battle sequence consists of four major phases. The first phase pits your party against Ultimecia herself. After taking sufficient damage, she summons Griever, a powerful enemy associated with Squall. Defeat Griever to begin the third phase, where Ultimecia and Griever combine into a more dangerous form. Continue attacking and maintaining your party's health until the final phase begins. Ultimecia then transforms into her ultimate form, which uses devastating magical attacks and can threaten your party's survival. Use your strongest Junction setups, healing magic, and Limit Breaks to finish the battle. Once Ultimecia's final form is defeated, watch the concluding story sequence and credits. End of Game unlocks after completing the story.
Tip
Before starting the final battle, create a manual save outside Ultimecia's chamber. Equip strong magic to HP, Strength, Spirit, and Speed to improve your party's survivability and damage output. Aura is especially useful for activating Limit Breaks, while Full-Life and Curaga provide reliable recovery. Remember that Ultimecia can permanently remove stocked magic during the final encounter, potentially weakening your Junctions. Preparing all six characters reduces the risk of losing important abilities if a reserve party member enters the battle. Completing Omega Destroyed before fighting Ultimecia is recommended if you're aiming to finish the Platinum during the same visit to the castle.
Warning
The final battle begins with a partially randomized party selection. Squall participates, but the other starting characters may not be the ones you'd normally choose. Defeated party members who aren't revived quickly can be removed from the battle and replaced by reserve characters. Ultimecia's ability to eliminate stocked magic can reduce your statistics if the affected spells are junctioned. Don't enter the final encounter without reliable healing and revival options. End of Game is a mandatory story trophy, but defeating Ultimecia won't automatically complete any optional trophies you've missed. If you're pursuing the Platinum in one playthrough, finish your remaining collectibles, sidequests, Guardian Forces, and Omega Weapon before concluding the story. Squall began his adventure as a student who barely wanted to speak to his classmates. By the end, he's crossed continents, traveled through space, challenged time itself, and defeated a sorceress from the future. That's an impressive extracurricular record for Balamb Garden.

Trophy: First Salary
Get your first salary from SeeD
Type: Bronze
Category: Story
How to Unlock
Receive your first SeeD salary. After completing the Dollet field examination and returning to Balamb Garden, Squall is officially promoted to SeeD. You'll receive an initial SeeD rank based on your performance during the examination. Unlike many other Final Fantasy games, ordinary enemies generally don't drop gil. Instead, SeeD members earn money through regular salary payments. After receiving your rank, continue progressing through the story and moving around the game world. SeeD salary payments are issued automatically after approximately 24,575 steps. Once Squall receives his first payment, First Salary unlocks. The amount of gil awarded depends on your current SeeD rank, but any successful salary payment satisfies the trophy requirement.
Tip
Your SeeD rank determines how much money you receive with each payment. You can raise your rank by completing SeeD written examinations through the Tutorials menu once you've officially become a SeeD. These examinations are also an efficient way to work toward Top Rank, which requires reaching SeeD Rank A. After your SeeD promotion, speak with Headmaster Cid before leaving Balamb Garden to obtain the Magical Lamp needed to recruit Diablos.
Warning
You must receive an actual salary payment. Simply becoming a SeeD or obtaining your initial rank doesn't immediately unlock First Salary. You don't need a particular rank or salary amount to earn the trophy. The trophy is tied to normal story progression and can be earned simply by continuing your adventure. Squall finally becomes a professional mercenary, only to discover that his employer pays him according to how much he walks. Balamb Garden has some unusual payroll policies.
Trophy: Ifrit
Unlock Guardian Force Ifrit
Type: Bronze
Category: Story
How to Unlock
Obtain the Guardian Force Ifrit by defeating him inside the Fire Cavern. Early in the game, Quistis accompanies Squall to the Fire Cavern east of Balamb Garden as part of his SeeD training. Before entering, speak with the instructors and select a time limit. You can choose between 10, 20, 30, or 40 minutes. For a better SeeD examination score, select the 10-minute limit. The dungeon is short enough to complete comfortably within that time. Follow the path through the cavern until you reach Ifrit. Because Ifrit is a Fire-element enemy, he's vulnerable to Ice attacks. Use Shiva and Blizzard magic to deal increased damage. Keep Squall and Quistis healthy, continue attacking, and defeat Ifrit before the timer expires. After winning the battle, Ifrit joins your collection of Guardian Forces and the trophy unlocks automatically.
Tip
Draw Blizzard magic from enemies outside the Fire Cavern before entering. A small stock will make the boss fight easier. Junction Shiva to one character and equip Blizzard magic on the other so both characters can exploit Ifrit's weakness. Ifrit provides useful Strength-related Junction abilities, making him an excellent Guardian Force for physical attackers.
Warning
Defeating Ifrit is required for story progression, so this trophy cannot be missed. However, your performance during the timed examination contributes to your initial SeeD ranking. Don't spend too much time drawing magic inside the cavern if you've selected the 10-minute limit. Squall's first practical examination involves entering a volcano and defeating a fire demon. Balamb Garden apparently considers written tests far too conventional.
Trophy: Quezacotl
Unlock Guardian Force Quezacotl
Type: Bronze
Category: Story
How to Unlock
Obtain the Guardian Force Quezacotl. Quezacotl is one of the first two Guardian Forces available in Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. At the beginning of the game, Squall is inside Balamb Garden's classroom after speaking with Quistis. Before leaving the classroom, approach Squall's computer terminal at his desk and interact with it. Open the Tutorial section on the computer and follow the instructions to register your first Guardian Forces. You'll receive Quezacotl and Shiva together. Quezacotl unlocks immediately after the Guardian Force is added to your collection. If you leave the classroom without obtaining it, Quistis will provide Quezacotl and Shiva when you meet her at Balamb Garden's front gate before traveling to the Fire Cavern.
Tip
Junction Quezacotl to Squall or Quistis immediately so you can begin learning its abilities. Prioritize learning Card and Card Mod. These abilities allow you to transform enemies into Triple Triad cards and refine cards into useful items. Card Mod becomes particularly valuable for collecting powerful magic and upgrading equipment without excessive traditional leveling. Equip the Draw command so you can stock magic from enemies and begin strengthening your characters through Junctions.
Warning
Quezacotl is obtained through mandatory early-game progression and cannot be permanently missed. However, receiving a Guardian Force doesn't automatically mean its abilities are active. You must Junction it to a character and equip the relevant commands. Remember to select which ability Quezacotl should learn so you're consistently earning useful AP. Squall's first day involves receiving a magical thunderbird from a classroom computer. Balamb Garden has a considerably more interesting technology department than most schools.
Trophy: Ragnarok
Find Ragnarok
Type: Bronze
Category: Story
How to Unlock
Find the Ragnarok airship during the main story. Ragnarok is a powerful spacecraft that becomes available during the later portion of Final Fantasy VIII Remastered. After the events aboard the Lunar Base, Squall travels through space to rescue Rinoa. Continue through the mandatory story sequence until Squall and Rinoa discover the Ragnarok drifting in space. Enter the airship to continue the story. Once aboard, you'll discover that the vessel has been overrun by dangerous creatures called Propagators. There are eight Propagators divided into four color groups: red, purple, green, and yellow. To eliminate them permanently, you must defeat two Propagators of the same color consecutively. If you defeat Propagators in the wrong order, previously defeated enemies can return. Explore the airship and eliminate each matching pair until all eight Propagators have been defeated. Once the ship is secure, continue through the mandatory story events and regain control of Ragnarok. The Ragnarok trophy is earned through this story sequence. After returning to the planet, Ragnarok becomes your primary means of long-distance transportation.
Tip
Pay attention to each Propagator's color before starting a battle. Defeat matching colors consecutively to avoid unnecessary repeated encounters. Save whenever possible and maintain a reliable supply of healing magic throughout the sequence. Once Ragnarok becomes available on the world map, use it to complete optional content before advancing too far into the final story events. Ragnarok is especially important for reaching Cactuar Island, the Deep Sea Research Center, and several locations involved in the Obel Lake and PuPu sidequests.
Warning
Ragnarok is a mandatory story trophy and cannot be permanently missed. Defeating the Propagators in the wrong order doesn't prevent story progression, but it causes additional enemies to reappear. You must clear all four matching color pairs to secure the airship. Don't rush into the final Lunatic Pandora sequence immediately after obtaining Ragnarok. This is one of your best opportunities to complete optional Guardian Forces, collectibles, and world-map sidequests before the point of no return. Squall and Rinoa discover an abandoned spaceship in orbit, only to find that it's infested with color-coded monsters. Apparently, even futuristic military spacecraft aren't immune to extremely inconvenient pest problems.
Trophy: Shiva
Unlock Guardian Force Shiva
Type: Bronze
Category: Story
How to Unlock
Obtain the Guardian Force Shiva. Shiva is one of the two starting Guardian Forces available at Balamb Garden. At the beginning of the game, interact with Squall's classroom computer terminal after speaking with Quistis. Select the Tutorial option to register your Guardian Forces. You'll receive Shiva alongside Quezacotl, and the trophy unlocks once Shiva is added to your collection. If you forget to use the classroom terminal, you still have another opportunity to obtain her. When Squall meets Quistis at Balamb Garden's front gate before heading to the Fire Cavern, she'll provide both starting Guardian Forces if you haven't already collected them. Shiva is therefore available automatically through the opening story sequence.
Tip
Junction Shiva to one of your active characters before entering the Fire Cavern. Shiva is an Ice-element Guardian Force, making her particularly useful against Ifrit, the first major boss. You can also Draw Blizzard magic from enemies outside the Fire Cavern and use those spells against Ifrit to exploit his elemental weakness. Consider teaching Shiva Boost to increase her summon damage during combat.
Warning
Shiva cannot be permanently missed during normal story progression. You must Junction her to a character before you can summon her in battle or benefit from her learned abilities. Although Shiva is useful against Ifrit, you don't need to summon her to earn the trophy. Simply obtaining the Guardian Force is sufficient. Squall hasn't even finished his first practical exam, and he's already been handed an ice goddess. Balamb Garden's student orientation program is clearly operating on another level.
Welcome to Balamb Garden, where students train to become elite mercenaries, exams involve actual combat, and Squall Leonhart would probably prefer everyone stopped talking to him. Final Fantasy VIII Remastered can be completed in a single playthrough, but several trophies are missable and there is no Chapter Select. Your most important early task is understanding the Junction system. Guardian Forces allow you to attach stocked magic to character statistics, often providing much larger improvements than leveling up. Equip the Draw command, collect useful spells from enemies and draw points, and regularly check which abilities your Guardian Forces are learning. Enemies also scale with your party's level, so grinding experience isn't necessarily the best way to become stronger. The remaster includes 3× Speed, Battle Assist, and No Encounters, all of which can be used without disabling trophies.
At the beginning of the game, obtain Quezacotl and Shiva from Squall's classroom computer, then defeat Ifrit in the Fire Cavern. During the Dollet SeeD examination, make absolutely sure you Draw Siren from Elvoret at the communications tower. This is your first major missable Guardian Force, and developing a habit of checking every boss's Draw list will save considerable frustration. After becoming a SeeD, speak with Headmaster Cid before departing Balamb Garden to receive the Magical Lamp, which allows you to fight and recruit Diablos. You can also begin playing Triple Triad, earn Card Player, deliberately lose a rare card for Loser after making a separate save, and start working toward Magician by stocking magic from enemies 100 times. Squall might not enjoy socializing, but unfortunately the Platinum requires him to become a pretty accomplished card player.
As your missions take you through Timber, Deling City, and beyond, prioritize collecting Guardian Forces while progressing through the main story. Visit the Tomb of the Unknown King near Deling City and defeat Sacred and Minotaur to obtain Brothers. During the assassination mission, Draw Carbuncle from one of the Iguions. Later, when confronting NORG beneath Balamb Garden, Draw Leviathan after exposing NORG himself. During the confrontation with Fujin and Raijin at Balamb, Draw Pandemona from Fujin. When the Gardens finally clash, defeat the optional Cerberus in Galbadia Garden's main hall and Draw Alexander from Edea during the subsequent boss battle. Several missed Guardian Forces have second opportunities inside Ultimecia's Castle, but obtaining them during their original encounters is considerably safer.
Once Balamb Garden becomes mobile, take advantage of the opportunity to explore optional locations. Capture a Chocobo at one of the dome-shaped Chocobo Forests, visit Centra Ruins to work toward Tonberry, and begin challenging Balamb Garden's CC Group for Cards Club Master. You'll need enough Triple Triad victories to unlock the group's challenges, and the final members become available as the story advances. Collect Timber Maniacs magazines whenever you visit a new town, including hotels, pubs, and other easily overlooked interiors. Most importantly, when the story takes you aboard the White SeeD Ship, collect its Timber Maniacs magazine from the bridge before leaving. This particular magazine is only available during a limited story window. Nothing ruins a well-planned Platinum quite like realizing that the most dangerous enemy in the game was an unread magazine.
As the story advances through Esthar and the space-related events, prepare for the remaining optional Guardian Forces and late-game trophies. Obtain Solomon's Ring at Tear's Point, then gather six Malboro Tentacles, six Steel Pipes, and six Remedy+ items to summon Doomtrain. Alexander's Med LV Up ability is needed to refine Remedies into Remedy+, so acquiring Alexander earlier is especially important. Continue upgrading weapons, refining useful items, and building strong Junction setups. For Maximum HP, equip HP-J with powerful magic such as Full-Life or Ultima, then combine it with HP-boosting abilities until a character reaches 9,999 HP. You should also continue working toward 1,000 enemy kills, which can require dedicated grinding even if you've fought regularly throughout the story.
After obtaining the Ragnarok airship, complete your remaining world-map activities before committing to the final story sequence. Fly to Cactuar Island and defeat Jumbo Cactuar, then visit the Deep Sea Research Center to obtain Bahamut and Draw Eden from Ultima Weapon. Finish the Obel Lake Secret and UFO sidequests, collect any remaining Timber Maniacs magazines, and defeat all members of the CC Group if you haven't already. This is also an excellent opportunity to visit the Island Closest to Heaven and Island Closest to Hell for powerful magic draw points while progressing toward Magic Miner. Before the final assault on Lunatic Pandora, create a separate manual save and verify your outstanding trophies. Advancing into the endgame eventually triggers Time Compression, removing normal access to many towns and earlier locations. Ragnarok gives you the freedom to explore almost the entire world, so use it before the story takes that freedom away.
Final Fantasy VIII Remastered doesn't require a second playthrough if you've collected the missable Guardian Forces and magazines before their opportunities disappear. Use your pre-endgame save to finish any remaining Triple Triad challenges, optional Guardian Forces, and sidequests. For Top Rank, complete SeeD written examinations through the Tutorials menu to raise your SeeD rank toward A, remembering that the available exams depend on Squall's level. For 1000 Kills, revisit an area with manageable enemies and defeat them repeatedly until the trophy unlocks. You can track kills using the Battle Meter and its optional Character Report upgrade. Keep No Encounters disabled while grinding kills, and use 3× Speed to reduce the time spent fighting. The good news is that Squall doesn't need to enjoy all this additional work. He just needs to do it.
Once you're satisfied with your preparations, enter Ultimecia's Castle and work toward Omega Destroyed. Omega Weapon is the game's toughest optional encounter, so bring powerful Junctions, high HP, Death protection, and strong Limit Breaks. Hero or Holy War items can provide temporary invincibility, while Aura helps your characters access Limit Breaks more reliably. Omega's attacks include Level 5 Death, Megiddo Flame, and Terra Break, making defensive preparation essential. After defeating Omega, continue through Ultimecia's Castle and defeat the final boss to unlock End of Game. If every other trophy has already been earned, Lionheart will unlock as your Platinum. With enough preparation, even the most dangerous battles become manageable. The real test of a SeeD isn't just defeating a time-bending sorceress; it's remembering to collect every magazine along the way.
