Platinum Path
EARLY GAME Start by playing through the story on whichever difficulty feels right. There are no difficulty-related trophies, and nothing is permanently missable because Testament of the Soul lets you revisit missions and change past decisions once you reach Chapter 2. That means you can actually enjoy the story instead of staring nervously at a trophy checklist every five minutes. As you move through each area, prior...

RISE OF THE RONIN - 100% Platinum Walkthrough No Commentary - PART 1 (4K 60FPS PS5)
Trophy: Rise of the Ronin
Obtained all trophies.
Type: Platinum
Unlock Details
Obtained all trophies.

Trophy: Cats Over All
Collected all cats.
Type: Silver
Category: Collectible
Unlock Details
Find and pet all 100 cats. There are 100 cats scattered throughout the game's three states, and you can begin collecting them from the start of the game. Some cats will happily stay where they are as you approach. Others are sleeping and can become frightened if you run toward them. Approach these cats quietly so they don't escape. If one does run away, don't worry. You can return later and try again. Finding cats also deepens your relationship with Usugumo Dayu and can eventually help you pursue a romantic relationship with the character.
Tip
Pet every cat you find while completing areas instead of leaving all 100 for the end. You'll already be exploring extensively for the other collectibles, so grabbing nearby cats along the way will save plenty of cleanup. Forget the Shogunate. Forget the revolution. The true purpose of your journey has finally been revealed: pet every cat in Japan.

Trophy: Collector
Earned your first Completion Reward.
Type: Bronze
Category: Collectible
Unlock Details
Earn your first Completion Reward by collecting everything and clearing all Public Orders in a single area. Yamate in Yokohama is a good choice because it's available early and completing it can also raise the area to Bond Level 3 for Home Sweet Home. Open the map and press Triangle while highlighting the area to check what you're still missing. For Yamate, complete the following: 3 Veiled Edge Banners 2 Public Orders 2 Fugitives 1 Landmark 1 Shrine 2 Cats 2 Treasure Chests 1 Photograph Spot Once you've finished everything required in the area and earned its Completion Reward, the trophy will unlock. This is also a good introduction to the much larger collectible cleanup waiting for you. Across all 41 areas, Rise of the Ronin contains 660 collectibles and activities: 113 Veiled Edge Banners 66 Public Orders 70 Landmarks 100 Cats 44 Photograph Spots 91 Fugitives 113 Treasure Chests 49 Shrines 5 Firearm Trainings 4 Horseback Archery Trainings 5 Gliding Trainings You won't need absolutely everything for the Platinum, but several categories have their own trophy requirements. You'll need all 100 Cats for Cats Over All, all 44 Photograph Spots for Sightseer, and 50 of the 91 Fugitives for Keeper of the Peace. You'll also need to earn Master rank in one Firearm Training, Horseback Archery Training, and Gliding Training for their respective trophies.
Tip
Activate Veiled Edge Banners whenever you see them and clear nearby collectibles as you naturally explore. Future-you will be extremely grateful when trophy cleanup isn't 12 straight hours of teleporting between question marks. Congratulations on completing your first area. Only 40 more areas are staring at you from the map. No pressure.

Trophy: Contraption Creator
Conducted Technology Development 15 times.
Type: Bronze
Category: Collectible
Unlock Details
Conduct Technology Development 15 times. Technology Development is handled by Igashichi Lizuka, who is marked on the map with a book icon. You'll first encounter him in the Honcho sub-region. Technology Development requires Foreign Books. There are 45 Foreign Books available, and completing every possible development would require finding 40 of them. Fortunately, you only need to complete 15 of the 30 Technology Developments for this trophy. Foreign Books can be obtained by: Opening Treasure Chests Completing Grass Roots Missions Completing Bond Missions Bring the Foreign Books you collect to Igashichi and use them to conduct Technology Development. Complete 15 developments and the trophy will unlock. After completing Chapter 1, you won't need to keep returning to Yokohama to find Igashichi. He will be available across all three states as you continue through the game.
Tip
Keep opening Treasure Chests and completing Bond and Grass Roots Missions as you progress. Since all three activities can provide Foreign Books, you can make steady progress without specifically grinding for them early. Apparently the secret to technological advancement is collecting enough books and handing them to one very enthusiastic guy.

Trophy: Firearm Genius
Received the highest rank (Master) in firearms training.
Type: Bronze
Category: Collectible
Unlock Details
Earn the highest rank, Master, in any Firearms Training. There are five Firearms Trainings in the game, but you only need to achieve Master rank in one of them for the trophy. The first available training is located in Yoshida-Shinden in Yokohama. The five training locations are: Yoshida-Shinden — Yokohama Hiranuma-Shinden — Yokohama Kanda — Edo Fukagawa — Edo Higashiyama — Kyoto For the Yoshida-Shinden training, you'll need to hit at least 12 wooden targets and 15 metallic targets within the time limit. Hitting multiple targets at once awards a higher score and will help you reach the Master requirement.
Tip
Focus on accuracy and look for opportunities to hit multiple targets with a single shot. You only need Master rank in one training, so there's no reason to master all five unless you're determined to prove you're the fastest gun in 19th-century Japan. Turns out all those sword lessons were optional. Sometimes the correct samurai technique is simply: gun.

Trophy: Home Sweet Home
Achieved your first Lv.3 Area Bond.
Type: Bronze
Category: Collectible
Unlock Details
Reach Area Bond Level 3 in any area for the first time. Area Bond increases as you explore and complete activities within an area. Finding collectibles and completing Public Orders will increase your Area Bond, while Chance Encounters can also contribute toward it. The earliest convenient area for this is Yamate in Yokohama, which you'll visit near the beginning of the game. Yamate contains: 3 Veiled Edge Banners 2 Public Orders 2 Fugitives 1 Landmark 1 Shrine 2 Cats 2 Treasure Chests 1 Photograph Spot When viewing an area on the map, press Triangle to see its collectible checklist. Work through the activities in Yamate and raise its Area Bond to Level 3 to unlock the trophy.
Tip
Stick with Yamate and work toward completing everything in the area. You'll make progress toward several later collectible trophies and can earn Collector at the same time. Welcome to the true enemy of every open-world trophy hunter: clearing icons off a map because leaving one behind is simply unacceptable.

Trophy: Horseback Hero
Received the highest rank (Master) in horseback archery.
Type: Bronze
Category: Collectible
Unlock Details
Earn the highest rank, Master, in any Horseback Archery Training. There are four Horseback Archery Trainings in the game, but you only need to achieve Master rank in one of them. The first opportunity is located in Yokohama, in the Yoshida-Shinden sub-region. The four training locations are: Yoshida-Shinden — Yokohama Ushigome — Edo Kanda — Edo Shirakawa — Kyoto For the Yoshida-Shinden course, you need to hit all 9 targets with your arrows while riding through the course and reach the finish line as quickly as possible. Hitting all 9 targets is more important than simply finishing quickly, so prioritize accuracy before trying to shave seconds off your run.
Tip
Focus on consistently hitting every target first. Once you know where all 9 targets appear along the route, work on completing the course faster until you reach Master rank. You're a samurai firing arrows from a galloping horse. Missing a wooden target somehow still feels like the most embarrassing part of that sentence.

Trophy: Keeper of the Peace
Defeated 50 fugitives.
Type: Silver
Category: Collectible
Unlock Details
Defeat 50 Fugitives. Fugitives are wanted criminals scattered throughout the open world. They're generally tougher than normal enemies and function as small mini-boss encounters. There are 91 Fugitives across the game, but you only need to defeat 50 for the trophy. Fugitives are marked on the map with an equals sign (=), making them easy to identify while clearing each region. You'll also encounter one or two Fugitives during some Public Orders. Since you'll already be completing Public Orders and exploring areas for other collectible trophies, hunt any Fugitives you come across and you'll steadily work toward the required 50.
Tip
Combine this with your Area Bond and collectible cleanup rather than saving all 50 Fugitives for the end. There are 91 available, so you can comfortably skip any you don't feel like dealing with. You're keeping the peace by hunting down 50 dangerous criminals. The fact that your preferred peacekeeping tool is a sword is merely a historical detail.

Trophy: Sightseer
Completed all photograph spots.
Type: Silver
Category: Collectible
Unlock Details
Complete all 44 Photograph Spots. Photograph Spots become available after completing the Ronin Mission Locating the Camera. There are 44 Photograph Spots spread across the game's three states. Each is marked with a camera icon on the map. When you reach a Photograph Spot, press Triangle to view the subject you're supposed to photograph and read its description. Take the required picture and continue doing this until you've completed all 44 locations.
Tip
Complete Photograph Spots whenever you're clearing an area's other collectibles. You'll need every single one for the trophy, so taking the photos as you explore will reduce the amount of cleanup later. You're a samurai caught in the middle of a country-changing conflict, but yes, please stop everything. That building needs its picture taken.

Trophy: Winged Warrior
Received the highest rank (Master) in gliding training.
Type: Bronze
Category: Collectible
Unlock Details
Earn the highest rank, Master, in any Gliding Training. There are five Gliding Trainings available, but you only need Master rank in one of them for the trophy. The first available training is located in Kariba in Yokohama. The five training locations are: Kariba — Yokohama Shibo — Yokohama Shiba — Edo Fukagawa — Edo Higashiyama — Kyoto For the Kariba course, you'll need to hit all 9 targets while gliding and reach the finish line as quickly as possible. As with Horseback Archery, hitting all 9 targets is more important than simply getting to the end quickly. Learn the route, make sure you're consistently passing through every target, and then focus on improving your time.
Tip
Don't restart just because your route isn't perfectly fast. Concentrate on hitting every target first, then tighten up your flight path once you've memorized where they are. Rise of the Ronin looked at horses, guns, swords, cats, photography, and romance and decided the obvious thing still missing was competitive hang-gliding.

Trophy: A Jack of One Trade is a Master of All
Mastered one of the four stat types.
Type: Bronze
Category: Grind
Unlock Details
Fully complete one of the game's four skill trees. Skills require two different types of points. Normal Skill Points are earned through activities such as completing missions and converting Karma at Veiled Edge Banners. Some skills also require Rare Skill Points, which can be obtained by increasing your Bonds with NPCs or finding them inside chests. You only need to completely master one of the four stat types for the trophy, so don't worry about filling every skill tree. The easiest choice is Intellect. It requires fewer Rare Skill Points than the other trees, and you'll also receive more Intellect-related Rare Skill Points while working through the game. Bond Levels are particularly important here. Increasing your relationships with NPCs rewards Rare Skill Points, so continue completing Bond Missions, giving preferred gifts, and raising Personal Bonds while progressing toward this trophy.
Tip
Focus your Rare Skill Points on Intellect rather than spreading them evenly across all four trees. You'll need a lot of them before you can purchase every skill required to master a stat type. You don't have to master everything. Just master one thing. Finally, a trophy with realistic expectations.

Trophy: Fancy Meeting You Here
Had 50 Chance Encounters.
Type: Bronze
Category: Grind
Unlock Details
Complete 50 Chance Encounters. Chance Encounters are random events that can appear while you're traveling through the different states. Look for a banner displaying an exclamation point (!) to identify one nearby. The events themselves vary considerably. You might need to deal with drunken troublemakers, defeat bandits, kill a thief, follow a wolf, or complete another small objective. You'll need to complete 50 of these encounters for the trophy. Unlike most activities, Chance Encounters are random. You may travel for a while without seeing any and then suddenly encounter two or three close together, so take advantage of them whenever they appear.
Tip
Start doing these from the beginning of the game instead of leaving all 50 for cleanup. Since their appearances depend on luck, working on them naturally throughout your playthrough can save you from wandering around later desperately hoping someone nearby needs help. After 50 random encounters, you'll learn the most important rule of traveling through Japan: if an exclamation point appears, whatever you were doing can wait.
Warning
Don't leave immediately after finishing the main objective. Stay until you've actually received the reward so the Chance Encounter properly counts toward your progress.

Trophy: Moneybags
Saved 150,000 sen.
Type: Bronze
Category: Grind
Unlock Details
Have 150,000 Sen in your possession at the same time. This trophy requires you to actually hold 150,000 Sen at once, so money you've already earned and spent won't count toward the total. You should accumulate plenty of Sen through normal progression. Selling unwanted equipment is an easy way to build up your savings, and if you avoid unnecessary spending, you can potentially have around 250,000 Sen by the middle of Chapter 2. Once your current balance reaches 150,000 Sen, the trophy will unlock.
Tip
Hold off on expensive purchases until you've earned the trophy. Sell equipment you don't need and let your Sen pile up until you've crossed the 150,000 requirement. Turns out the hardest part isn't earning 150,000 Sen. It's having 150,000 Sen and resisting the urge to immediately buy something shiny.

Trophy: Well-Rounded Ronin
Reached Level 55.
Type: Bronze
Category: Grind
Unlock Details
Reach Level 55. You should reach Level 55 naturally during your first playthrough if you're completing the main Ronin Missions alongside a good number of Bond Missions and open-world activities. If you're thoroughly completing the Bond Missions and clearing the different states, you can reach Level 55 during Chapter 3. Finishing all of the available content can push you considerably beyond the requirement. There's also no need to wait for Midnight difficulty. Midnight becomes available after completing the story, and even its first mission has a recommended level of 56, so you should aim to have this trophy finished during your initial playthrough.
Tip
Don't grind enemies specifically for levels unless you somehow reach the end of the game below 55. Complete your remaining Bond Missions and other unfinished content first, since you'll need plenty of it for the Platinum anyway. Level 55 sounds intimidating until you realize you've spent half the game chasing cats, taking photographs, delivering gifts, and somehow becoming stronger from all of it.

Trophy: Martial Arts Maniac
Defeated enemies using every weapon.
Type: Bronze
Category: Combat
Unlock Details
Defeat at least one enemy using each of the nine weapon types. Most weapon types are available from the beginning of the game. The only exception is the Bayonet, which you'll obtain during Chapter 1 after defeating enemies. The nine required weapon types are: Odachi Saber Polearm Greatsword Bayonet Katana Spear Oxtail Blade Paired Swords Simply equip each weapon type and use it to defeat an enemy. Once you've scored a kill with all nine, the trophy will unlock.
Tip
Whenever you obtain a weapon type you haven't used before, equip it and get a kill immediately. That makes it much easier than reaching the end and wondering which of the nine weapons you somehow forgot. Nine weapon types, nine kills. Consider it the world's most violent product demonstration.

Trophy: Shadow Stalker
Succeeded in carrying out 100 assassinations.
Type: Silver
Category: Combat
Unlock Details
Successfully assassinate 100 enemies. Stealth is a major part of Rise of the Ronin, so this should come naturally if you're regularly sneaking through enemy camps and missions instead of charging through the front door every single time. To perform an assassination, lock onto an enemy with L3 and approach them without being detected. Once you're close enough and the lock-on indicator turns red, press Triangle to assassinate them. Repeat this until you've successfully performed 100 assassinations.
Tip
The trophy has a built-in tracker, so you can check your current number of assassinations directly from the trophy list. If you regularly use stealth, you may unlock this around the middle of Chapter 2 without needing any dedicated grinding. One hundred silent assassinations later, we're beginning to suspect the "Ronin" part of the title may actually be optional.

Trophy: Striver's License
Received the highest rank (Master) at the dojo.
Type: Bronze
Category: Combat
Unlock Details
Earn the highest rank, Master, in any Dojo fight. Seven Dojos become available after completing the Ronin Mission Those Who Lead. You only need to earn Master rank at one of them, so there's no need to master every Dojo for this trophy. Dojo locations include: Bashamichi — Yokohama Shibuya — Edo Shiba — Edo Kanda — Edo Kyobashi — Edo Kojimachi — Edo Shimabara — Kyoto Visit any Dojo, speak with its master, and select "I want to train." Choose a fight and aim for a score of at least 7,000 points to receive the Master rank. Your performance is heavily affected by how quickly you finish and how much damage you take. Aim to complete the fight in around one minute while taking less than roughly two full health bars of damage.
Tip
Learn your opponent's attack patterns instead of trying to overpower them. Well-timed Countersparks with Triangle will help you avoid damage and finish the fight quickly enough for the required score. This is basically your final exam in pressing Triangle at exactly the right moment. Your swordsmanship instructor is judging you. Harshly.

Trophy: Style Guru
Mastered three combat styles.
Type: Bronze
Category: Combat
Unlock Details
Master three different combat styles. There are 45 combat styles in total, and each one has four proficiency levels: Novice Intermediate Advanced Master Combat styles are connected to your Bonds with different NPCs. As you deepen the appropriate character Bonds, their associated combat styles can increase in proficiency. For this trophy, raise three different combat styles all the way to Master. You can accomplish this naturally by concentrating on increasing your Bonds with three NPCs tied to combat styles.
Tip
This pairs nicely with the other Bond-related trophies. Complete Bond Missions, talk to characters, and use preferred gifts to deepen the relationships you need rather than treating Style Guru as a separate grind. Nothing says "meaningful human connection" quite like becoming better at hitting people with increasingly sophisticated sword techniques.

Trophy: Tears of a Blue Demon
Managed to beat the Blue Demon aboard the Black Ship.
Type: Silver
Category: Combat
Unlock Details
Defeat the Blue Demon aboard the Black Ship. You'll first encounter the Blue Demon at the end of the second Ronin Mission, Infiltrating the Black Ship. While it's possible to fight him during your initial visit, defeating him this early is extremely difficult. Don't worry about winning this fight on your first playthrough of the mission. Instead, continue through the game until you're much stronger. Once you've reached around Level 40 or higher, use Testament of the Soul to replay Infiltrating the Black Ship. Fight your way back to the Blue Demon and defeat him this time to unlock the trophy.
Tip
The Oxtail Blade is a good weapon choice for taking him down quickly. This is one of those wonderfully satisfying trophies where you return dozens of levels stronger to the boss who bullied you at the beginning. Hello again. Remember me?

Trophy: Cheater Beater
Caught 5 cheaters while playing Odds and Evens.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Catch five cheaters while playing Odds and Evens. Odds and Evens is a gambling minigame where you bet on whether the combined total of two hidden dice will be odd or even. Guess correctly and you'll receive twice the number of tokens you wagered. There is one Gambling Den in each state. While playing, watch for the screen to take on a slightly purple appearance. When this happens, the "Tell on Him" option will appear, indicating that you've caught someone cheating. Select it to expose the cheater. Do this five times to satisfy the trophy requirement.
Warning
After exposing the cheating, you'll need to defeat the Gambling Den boss and his bodyguard, so be ready for a fight. Imagine getting caught cheating at dice and immediately deciding the reasonable next step is a boss battle. Gambling etiquette was apparently different back then.

Trophy: Dive of the Ronin
Glided from the elevated deck at Kiyomizudera Temple.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Glide from the elevated deck at Kiyomizudera Temple. You'll need to reach Kyoto, which becomes available during Chapter 3. Once there, travel to the Higashiyama sub-region and head toward the Kiyomizudera Temple landmark in the southeast portion of the map. There's a Veiled Edge Banner near the temple that makes reaching the location easier. Activate it, then head onto the elevated balcony of Kiyomizudera Temple. Jump from the balcony, open your Glider, and remain in the air for a few seconds. The trophy should unlock during the glide.
Tip
Activate the nearby Veiled Edge Banner first. If your attempt doesn't work, you'll have a convenient fast-travel point right next to the temple. You've survived assassins, political upheaval, and countless sword fights. Now jump off a temple balcony for a Bronze trophy.

Trophy: Farewell, Black Cat
Saved Soji Okita's life.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Save Soji Okita's life by completing his two Bond Missions. Both of Soji's Bond Missions become available during Chapter 3, but you'll need to make the correct earlier story choice to get his storyline moving. During the Ronin Mission A Rift in the Roshigumi, accompany the Shogunate faction so you can progress toward The Ikeda Inn Incident and strengthen your relationship with Soji. After completing Fate of the Vanquished, you'll gain access to his first Bond Mission: The Supreme Swordsman Later in Chapter 3, complete his second Bond Mission: A Moment of Brilliance During A Moment of Brilliance, you'll search for medicine that can cure Soji's tuberculosis. Complete his storyline and save his life to unlock the trophy.
Tip
If you're working toward Friendly Neighborhood Ronin anyway, make Soji's two Bond Missions a priority when they become available. You'll make progress toward both trophies at the same time. Rise of the Ronin gives you plenty of reasons to draw your sword. This time we're using friendship and medicine. Character development.

Trophy: Fateful Encounter
Achieved your first Lv.4 Personal Bond.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Reach Level 4, Fated, with any Personal Bond for the first time. Personal Bonds have four levels, with Level 4 being the maximum. Increase a character's Bond by completing their Bond Missions, speaking with them, and giving them suitable gifts. Preferred gifts are marked with an origami heart beside their icon. If you're working toward Veiled Vow, this trophy will come naturally because reaching maximum Bond/Favor is required before you can begin a romantic relationship with an eligible character. Don't stop building relationships after earning the trophy, though. Increasing Bonds is also an important source of Rare Skill Points. Each NPC can reward one Rare Skill Point per Bond level, with the type depending on the character. You can check the Bonds tab to see which type a particular NPC provides. You'll want plenty of these points later when working toward A Jack of One Trade is a Master of All, which requires fully mastering one of the four stat types. Your provided route recommends eventually reaching maximum Bond with more than 20 NPCs to help gather the Rare Skill Points you'll need.
Tip
Combine your Bond cleanup with Veiled Vow instead of treating them as separate grinds. Complete Bond Missions and use preferred gifts on characters you're already interested in raising. Turns out friendship really is its own reward. The reward just happens to be skill points and trophies, which makes friendship considerably more efficient.

Trophy: Fresh Start
Remodeled your longhouse for the first time.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Remodel your Longhouse for the first time. After reaching Yokohama and meeting Taka, Ryoma will arrange a Longhouse for you. This becomes your safehouse and eventually provides access to several useful features as you progress through the game. You can remodel the Longhouse from the beginning, so once you've gained access to it, enter the Housekeeping menu and select the Remodel option. Make a change to your Longhouse to unlock the trophy. That's it. No sword fights, political assassinations, or angry samurai required. For once, your greatest challenge is interior decorating.

Trophy: Friendly Neighborhood Ronin
Completed all Bond Missions.
Type: Gold
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Complete all 58 Bond Missions. None of the Bond Missions are permanently missable. Once Testament of the Soul becomes available in Chapter 2, you can return to previous chapters, replay earlier sections, and change choices that may have temporarily blocked access to certain Bond Missions. The easiest approach is to complete the available Bond Missions in each state before finishing that chapter. Many Bond Missions are connected to one another, so leaving one unfinished can prevent another mission from appearing until you've completed its prerequisite. Some missions also require reaching Bond Level 2 or 3 with a particular character before they'll become available. If you're missing a Bond Mission, return to your Longhouse and open Testament of the Soul. Select the Bond Missions tab and check the character list. Unfinished missions appear darker in the mission list, while missing requirements or locations are displayed in red. The description can help identify the character or requirement preventing the mission from becoming available. There are several missions worth paying extra attention to because they have specific requirements. Shinsaku Takasugi's Where There's a Will requires siding with the Anti-Shogunate during Parting Ways. Akikatsu Manabe's The Watchman requires you to have spared Naosuke Ii during The Sakurada Gate Incident. Ryoma Sakamoto's Crossroads of Dawn requires him to survive The Omi Inn Incident. Don't panic if you made a different choice during your original playthrough. Testament of the Soul lets you return and change the necessary decisions.
Tip
Whenever a new Bond Mission appears, complete it before pushing too far ahead with the story. This keeps the interconnected mission chains moving and makes the final cleanup considerably easier. Fifty-eight friendship missions later, you've officially spent more time maintaining relationships than most people do in real life. At least these friends give you Rare Skill Points.

Trophy: Good to Go
Upgraded your armor, weapon and sub-weapon.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Upgrade a main weapon, a sub-weapon, and any one piece of armor at a Blacksmith. Blacksmiths can usually be found near your Longhouse in each state. Speak with one, select the Upgrade menu, and upgrade each of the three required equipment types: One main weapon One sub-weapon One armor piece — head, body, arms, or legs The materials required depend on what you're upgrading. Main weapons and firearms use Iron Ore and Black Sand Steel, armor uses Cotton-Linen Thread and Silk, while bows require Bamboo and Iron Ore. You can purchase upgrade materials from Blacksmiths, obtain them by disassembling unwanted equipment, or collect resources while exploring the world. After finishing the game, you'll also gain access to the Blacksmith through the housekeeping menu at your Longhouse.
Tip
Don't waste valuable materials heavily upgrading equipment you're about to replace. For the trophy, you only need to perform an upgrade on each required equipment type. A sword, a ranged weapon, and some armor. Congratulations, you're officially prepared to replace all three with better loot approximately seven minutes from now.

Trophy: Life Saver
Completed a No-Kill Mission's objectives.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Complete the objectives of a No-Kill Mission without killing any enemies. There are only two missions with a No-Kill objective: In Search of New Knowledge — Yukichi Fukuzawa Ine's Worries — Ine Kusumoto During either mission, use a wooden weapon or your bare fists to knock enemies out instead of killing them. Complete the No-Kill objective successfully and the trophy will unlock.
Warning
Avoid using Stealth Kills during the mission. Despite your otherwise peaceful intentions, assassinating someone still counts as killing them. Who knew?

Trophy: Midnight Crossing
Completed an optional ronin mission with the "Midnight" difficulty setting enabled.
Type: Gold
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Complete an optional Ronin Mission with Midnight difficulty enabled. Midnight difficulty becomes available after completing the main story. Go to the Longhouse and enter Testament of the Soul. Press L3 to switch over to Midnight difficulty, where you'll gain access to the Ronin and Bond Missions available within each chapter. Midnight significantly increases the difficulty. The recommended level for even the first Ronin Mission rises to Level 56. You only need to complete one optional Ronin Mission on Midnight for the trophy, so there's no requirement to replay the entire game on this difficulty. If you've completed all of your Ronin Missions, Bond Missions, and most of the game's other activities beforehand, you should be around Level 60-62 and in a good position to tackle one of the earlier missions. A good choice is Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises. You can bring two NPC allies with you, there are no enemies on the way to the boss, and you'll only need to defeat Gonzo to complete the mission.
Tip
Save this until after your main-game cleanup. The extra levels and equipment you've gained will make your first Midnight mission considerably easier. After an entire game of becoming ridiculously powerful, Midnight difficulty arrives to politely ask, "That's cute. Want to try again?"

Trophy: One Good Turn Deserves Another
Gave your first gift.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Give a gift to another character for the first time. Once you've established Bonds with other characters, speak with one of them and choose the option to give them a gift. Hand over any valid gift and the trophy will unlock. You can find characters you've bonded with through the Bonds tab and travel to their listed location. Some characters are only available during particular chapters, so if their location isn't currently shown, return to the chapter where you originally encountered them. You can also meet characters at your Longhouse, where three different people can appear depending on your housekeeping, remodeling, and accessory choices. Each character has two or three preferred gift types. Look for the small origami heart beside a gift's icon, which indicates that particular character likes it. The exception is the Knot of Destiny, which is appreciated by everyone. You'll naturally receive gifts while completing Ronin Missions. If you need additional ones, merchants also sell gifts in exchange for Silver Coins.
Tip
Save your better gifts for characters whose Bond Levels you actually want to increase. Matching a preferred gift to the right person will make your relationship-building more efficient. Apparently overthrowing governments and mastering the sword aren't enough. A true Ronin also remembers to bring presents.

Trophy: Resonance
Equipped four or more pieces of equipment with the same set bonus for the first time.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc

Equip four or more pieces of equipment that share the same set bonus. Equipment can belong to one of 10 different sets. Check an item's description and look for the set name displayed in gold text. Equipping multiple pieces from the same set activates increasingly powerful bonuses at 2, 3, and 4 pieces, such as reducing damage taken or lowering Ki consumption. You'll find complete equipment sets in chests throughout the game, so this should become easier as your collection grows. Once you have enough gear, open Equipment and check each of the four armor categories: head, body, arms, and legs. Press L3 to open the Filter menu and filter each category by the same set bonus. Equip four matching pieces at the same time and the trophy will unlock.
Tip
Use the filter instead of manually digging through every piece of armor you've collected. Your inventory will eventually become a museum dedicated to clothing you swear you're going to sort out later.

Trophy: Social Climber
Took part in missions with all available allies.
Type: Silver
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Take part in missions with all 32 available combat allies. Although there are 52 NPCs you can interact with throughout Rise of the Ronin, only 32 can accompany you during missions. Ronin Missions allow you to bring up to two allies into battle, and you'll need to complete a mission alongside every available ally at least once. During your first playthrough, some missions restrict which allies you can select based on their faction. Don't worry if you can't use everyone immediately. After unlocking Testament of the Soul, you can replay Ronin Missions and select allies you previously couldn't bring with you. Most allies unlock through story progression, while several require completing specific Bond Missions or other activities. The 32 required allies and their unlock requirements are: Ryoma Sakamoto — Complete Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises. Gonzo — Complete Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises and spare him. Shinsaku Takasugi — Complete Try Your Luck. Genzui Kusaka — Complete The Way of the Warrior. Kogoro Katsura — Complete The Plot to Assassinate Harris on the Anti-Shogunate path. Matthew Perry — Complete Test of Friendship. Jules Brunet — Complete Cultural Exchange. Yasusuke Sawamura — Complete Yukichi Fukuzawa's In Search of New Knowledge. Toshimichi Okubo — Complete Damsel in Distress. Hirobumi Ito — Complete The Fire Attack. Sana Chiba — Complete Deadly Blade, Demon Belle. Eiichi Shibusawa — Complete Something to Show the World. Yoshinobu Tokugawa — Finish the bouts during A Show for the Shogun. Deishu Takahashi — Find him at the training camp where you fought Yoshinobu Tokugawa. Speak with him and participate in one of the training battles. Jigoro Kano — Complete Hirobumi Ito and Aritomo Yamagata's Strength in Softness. Motsugai Takeda — Complete Yukichi Fukuzawa's In Search of New Discoveries. Rutherford Alcock — Complete Robert Fortune's A Prize Beyond Reach. Alexandria Moreau — Complete An Intoxicating Flower. Toranosuke Shimada — Complete Nobutomo Odani's The Three Blades of the Era. Koto Nakazawa — Complete Temper, Temper. Tesshu Yamaoka — Complete Temper, Temper. Isami Kondo — Complete The Shogun's Journey to Kyoto. Toshizo Hijikata — Complete The Shogun's Journey to Kyoto. Soji Okita — Complete The Shogun's Journey to Kyoto. Shinpachi Nagakura — Complete Burgeoning Betrayal. Hajime Saito — Complete Burgeoning Betrayal. Takamori Saigo — Complete The Satsuma-Choshu Alliance. Ernest Satow — Complete A Priceless Treasure. Akikatsu Manabe — Available after Wildfire, provided you spared Naosuke Ii during The Sakurada Gate Incident.
Tip
Whenever you're given a choice of allies for a Ronin Mission, prioritize characters you haven't used before. Once you've unlocked the full roster, Testament of the Soul makes it easy to replay missions and clean up anyone you missed.
Warning
Gonzo and Akikatsu Manabe have choice-related requirements, so pay particular attention to them. If your original story choices prevent access, use Testament of the Soul to revisit the relevant decisions. The real challenge isn't fighting alongside 32 different people. It's remembering which 31 people you've already dragged into battle when you're missing exactly one.

Trophy: Solitary Ronin
Completed a mission without allies.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Complete a mission without bringing any allies. Ronin Missions normally allow you to bring up to two NPC allies with you or receive help through co-op. For this trophy, you'll need to complete a mission entirely by yourself. Simply choose a Ronin Mission, remove any available allies, and complete the mission without assistance.
Tip
You can leave this until later in the game when your character is stronger and better equipped. Replay an easier mission by yourself and you'll have a much easier time dealing with its enemies and boss. You've spent the entire game building relationships with dozens of allies. Now tell all of them to stay home because there's a trophy to earn.

Trophy: The Greater Opportunity
Saved Shinsaku Takasugi's life.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Name: The Greater Opportunity Category: Misc How to Unlock: Save Shinsaku Takasugi's life by completing his storyline. Shinsaku has four Bond Missions: Try Your Luck Something to Believe In Where There's a Will The Spice of Life The first three become available as you progress through the story. His final Bond Mission becomes available during Chapter 3 after reaching Bond Level 3 with him. There's also an important story choice involved in keeping Shinsaku alive. During the Battle of the Forbidden Gate, Shinsaku is fighting for the Anti-Shogunate faction. You need to accompany the opposing Shogunate faction, which allows you to save him at the end of the battle because of your friendship with him. Once he's alive, you'll eventually be able to complete his fourth Bond Mission and finish his storyline.
Tip
Raise Shinsaku to Bond Level 3 while working through his earlier Bond Missions so you're ready for his final mission when it becomes available. Nothing says friendship quite like joining your friend's enemies so you can save your friend from the people you just joined. Politics are going great.
Warning
If you originally sided with the Anti-Shogunate faction during the battle, don't worry. Use Testament of the Soul to change the past and make the choice needed to save Shinsaku.

Trophy: Threads of Fate
Established your first bond.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Name: Threads of Fate Category: Misc How to Unlock: Establish your first Bond with another character. As you progress through Rise of the Ronin, you'll meet NPCs you can develop relationships with through the Bond system. There are 52 characters you can form Bonds with by progressing through the Ronin Missions and completing the story. Once you've established a Bond, you can view that character and your current relationship level under Menu → Bonds. Bonds have four levels: Acquainted — Bond Level 1 Friendly — Bond Level 2 Inseparable — Bond Level 3 Fated — Bond Level 4 You can strengthen these relationships by completing Bond Missions, talking to the character, and giving them gifts. Increasing Bonds also provides useful rewards, including combat styles and Rare Skill Points. For this trophy, you only need to establish your first Bond, so it should come very early through normal progression. Don't worry, you don't need to become best friends. Just meet someone who doesn't immediately try to stab you. In Rise of the Ronin, that's already a promising relationship.

Trophy: Transfer of Power
Performed your first Bond Transfer.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Perform your first Bond Transfer at a Blacksmith. Visit any Blacksmith and select Bond Transfer from the menu. You'll need two pieces of equipment: a Destination Item with an available ability slot and a Transfer Item containing the ability you want to move. The rarity of the equipment does not matter. Select the Destination Item first, then choose the Transfer Item containing the desired ability. Performing the transfer requires: 1 Transfer Item 10 Iron Ore 1 Bond Jewel Complete the Bond Transfer and the trophy will unlock immediately.
Warning
The equipment used as the Transfer Item is consumed, so don't sacrifice something you actually want to keep. Finally, a game mechanic for looking at a perfectly good weapon and saying, "I like you, but I like that other sword's perk more."

Trophy: Traveling Through Time
Retried a mission for the first time using the Testament of the Soul.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Retry any previously completed mission using Testament of the Soul. After reaching Edo, you'll unlock Testament of the Soul. This system allows you to revisit previous states, replay Ronin and Bond Missions, and even change choices you made earlier in the story. Return to your Longhouse and enter the Testament of the Soul menu. Select any mission you've already completed and replay it to unlock the trophy. For a quick option, replay the first mission. It only contains three enemies followed by a boss fight, making it an easy choice if you simply want the trophy out of the way.
Tip
You'll need Testament of the Soul for other trophy cleanup anyway, so there's no need to go out of your way for this one. It becomes especially useful for revisiting choices, unfinished Bond Missions, and Tears of a Blue Demon. Congratulations, you've unlocked time travel. Naturally, your first use of this incredible power is going back in time to earn a Bronze trophy.

Trophy: Twilight Fencer
Saved Ryoma Sakamoto's life.
Type: Bronze
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Save Ryoma Sakamoto's life. Ryoma has four Bond Missions that should be completed before starting the Ronin Mission The Omi Inn Incident. Completing all four beforehand allows Ryoma to survive the attack during The Omi Inn Incident. You'll then be able to continue his storyline and gain access to his final Bond Mission afterward. If you reach The Omi Inn Incident without completing the necessary Bond Missions and Ryoma dies, the trophy isn't permanently missable. Use Testament of the Soul to return to the unfinished content, complete the necessary Bond Missions, and change the events so Ryoma survives.
Warning
Try to finish Ryoma's available Bond Missions before The Omi Inn Incident. Testament of the Soul can fix things afterward, but getting everything done beforehand saves you some timeline repair work. You know you've reached peak friendship when you're completing side quests to prevent your buddy from dying in the main story.

Trophy: Veiled Vow
Started your first romantic relationship.
Type: Silver
Category: Misc
Unlock Details
Start your first romantic relationship by reaching maximum Favor with one of the 13 characters eligible for a Veiled Vow, then selecting their special relationship dialogue. You can increase Favor by completing the character's Bond Missions, talking to them, and giving them gifts they like. When choosing gifts, look for the origami heart beside the gift icon — this indicates that the character particularly likes that item. Romantic characters also have between 2 and 5 Bond Missions, making those missions one of the fastest ways to raise Favor. The 13 Veiled Vow options are: Ryoma Sakamoto Shinsaku Takasugi Genzui Kusaka Goro Katsura Matthew Perry Taka Murayama Ernest Satow Soji Okita Princess Atsuko Ine Kusumoto Sana Chiba Fumi Sugi Usugumo Dayu Once you've reached maximum Favor/Bond with an eligible character, a special dialogue option can become available that allows you to establish a Veiled Vow. Some romances require reaching Chapter 2 or Chapter 3 before this dialogue appears even if you've already maxed their Favor. Ine Kusumoto is the earliest available option, becoming possible during Chapter 2. There are no gender restrictions on the romances, and you can establish Veiled Vows with all 13 characters. Ine Kusumoto and Sana Chiba are the two characters who may notice your other relationships and leave you. You can also simply wait until you've collected all 100 Cats for Cats Over All. Doing so raises your relationship with Usugumo Dayu and provides a natural route toward establishing a Veiled Vow with her.
Tip
If you're going for the Platinum, there's no need to rush this trophy. You'll already be raising Bonds for other trophies and collecting all 100 Cats, so several opportunities to start a romance will appear naturally. Apparently collecting 100 cats isn't just good for the Platinum. It's also a legitimate dating strategy. Take notes.

Progress to the Ronin Mission Those Who Know Shoin and complete Taka Murayama’s Bond Mission A Light in the Darkness. This sequence can also be revisited later using Testament of the Soul if needed. During Those Who Know Shoin, you’ll meet Taka and she’ll ask for your help saving someone. Complete A Light in the Darkness, then accompany Taka to Saihoji Temple. Once you arrive, Taka will ask you to take a photograph of her. Take the picture to unlock the trophy. After prison breaks, political conspiracies, assassinations, and hunting down your missing Blade Twin, Rise of the Ronin finally gives you the truly dangerous assignment: becoming someone’s photographer. Thankfully, there’s no need to worry about lighting, filters, or whether Taka approves the picture before posting it.

Trophy: A Show for the Shogun
Learned the identity of the mysterious samurai at the duel.
Type: Bronze
Category: Story
Unlock Details
Continue through Chapter 2 until you complete the Level 27 Ronin Mission A Show for the Shogun and discover the identity of the mysterious samurai. After joining forces with Kaishu Katsu, you and Ryoma will help with his plans to rebuild and modernize the Shogunate. This involves gathering allies for military reform, improving medical efforts, and developing foreign-style military training. Complete the required story missions as they become available, including Decisions, Reinventing the Shogunate, Deadly Blade, Demon Belle, Those Who Lead, The Physician's Request, Prison Break: Shosaku Narasaki, It Hurts to Be Good, Powder Smoke at the Castle, The Chivalry of the Denshutai, and A Mighty Soldier. Eventually you'll reach A Show for the Shogun, where apparently the best way to demonstrate that all this modernization is working is to put you in an arena and have you beat people up. You'll need to defeat four opponents in a row during the competition. Win all four fights and the mysterious samurai's identity will be revealed as Yoshinobu Tokugawa, the Shogun himself. Complete the encounter to unlock the trophy automatically. Turns out beating up the person running the country is perfectly acceptable as long as somebody calls it a demonstration first.

Trophy: A Veiled Edge's Future
Sealed the fate of your Blade Twin.
Type: Silver
Category: Story
Unlock Details
Continue through the final part of Chapter 3 until you complete the conflict with your Blade Twin and decide their fate. After the Battle of Toba-Fushimi, the fighting reaches Edo. Progress through Patriots' Reward, where you'll secure Princess Atsuko's petition to Saigo, then continue through Lifelong Vow and deliver it to him. Saigo agrees to meet with Katsu, opening the possibility of ending the conflict without another major battle. Unfortunately, your Blade Twin isn't particularly interested in everyone suddenly discovering the benefits of peace. Continue until you reach The Veiled Edge and face your Blade Twin one final time. Defeat them and make your final decision regarding their fate. Your choice completes the lifelong conflict between the two Veiled Edges and unlocks the trophy. You spent the entire game crossing Japan looking for your twin. Naturally, the family reunion had to end with one last sword fight.

After reaching this part of the story, you’ll become involved in protecting Princess Atsuko from the Blue Demon. Complete Damsel in Distress and successfully defend her before continuing toward the final events of Chapter 1. Your next major target is Naosuke Ii. During The Sakurada Gate Incident, confront and defeat him at the snowy Sakurada Gate. You’ll be given a choice regarding his fate, but either option allows the story to continue and does not affect the trophy. Finish the mission to complete Chapter 1 and unlock Black Ships, Long Shadows automatically. At this point you've survived assassinations, prison break-ins, political conspiracies, the Blue Demon, and a family reunion that ended in attempted murder. Congratulations — you've finished Chapter 1. Japan has definitely calmed down now.

Complete Chapter 2 by progressing through The Ikeda Inn Incident, The Forbidden Gate Rebellion, and Parting Ways. Once you reach Kyoto, you'll eventually have to choose which faction to support during the growing conflict between the Shogunate and anti-Shogunate forces. Your decision changes how parts of the story play out, but don't panic over the choice for trophy purposes — you can revisit and change past decisions later using Testament of the Soul. Continue through The Ikeda Inn Incident and then participate in the Level 34 mission The Forbidden Gate Rebellion. Regardless of which side you choose, the conflict ends with the Choshu forces being defeated. Finish the aftermath in the Level 35 mission Parting Ways to complete Chapter 2 and unlock the trophy automatically. Two chapters down. If you were hoping Japan's political situation might be getting simpler by now, Rise of the Ronin has some unfortunate news for you.

Continue through the opening section of Chapter 1 until you discover that your Blade Twin is still alive. Your search takes you toward Yokohama, but first you’ll need a permit to actually enter the city. Work with Ryoma to attack the bandits occupying the magistrate’s estate and obtain the permit from their leader during Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises. After reaching Yokohama, continue through the required missions The Bridge to Yokohama, Locating the Camera, A Pleasure District Portrait, and The Plot to Assassinate Harris. Along the way you’ll meet Taka, become involved with Ryoma’s anti-Shogun allies, and eventually learn that your Blade Twin is alive and working as US Consul Harris’s bodyguard under the name Demon Claw Samurai. Eventually you’ll come face-to-face with your missing twin. Unfortunately, this is not exactly the heartwarming family reunion you might have imagined. The encounter ends in a fight, your Blade Twin escapes, and the trophy unlocks automatically through story progression.

Complete the Prologue. You’ll earn this automatically after finishing the opening sequence, which consists of the Level 1 missions Veiled Edge Village, Infiltrating the Black Ship, and The Setting Sun. You’ll begin by training alongside your Blade Twin in Veiled Edge Village before being sent aboard one of the Black Ships to steal a secret message and assassinate Commodore Perry. Naturally, your very first real mission goes completely according to plan. Just kidding. The assassination is stopped by the mysterious Blue Demon, your Blade Twin is wounded and captured, and things continue going spectacularly downhill when you return home. Complete The Setting Sun, defeat the Bladesmith, and leave the village to begin searching for your Blade Twin. The trophy will unlock as part of the story.

Trophy: Infiltrate the Prison Complex
Made your way to Shoin Yoshida.
Type: Bronze

Continue through Chapter 1 until you reach and complete the Level 16 Ronin Mission Infiltrate the Prison Complex. After discovering that your Blade Twin survived, you’ll spend the next stretch of the story chasing information about what happened to them. This means helping Harris in exchange for information, dealing with both pro- and anti-Shogunate forces, and completing the required story missions Follow Your Blade Twin, Hidden Motives, Yokohama's Shadow, Tracking Down Harris, Take Back Hongakuji Temple, Cultural Exchange, and The Chinatown Kiheitai. Eventually, you’ll learn that Master Shoin Yoshida has been imprisoned by the Shogunate for inciting opposition against the Americans. Your next perfectly reasonable solution is therefore to break into Tobe Prison and rescue him. Fight your way through the prison during Infiltrate the Prison Complex and reach Shoin. There’s just one small problem with the rescue operation: Shoin refuses to be rescued. Instead, he asks you to deliver his final words to Fumi. Reach Shoin to complete the objective and unlock the trophy automatically as part of the story.

Your path begins with The Fire Attack, where you take part in the attack on the British Embassy in Edo. During the mission, you’ll face Rutherford Alcock as well as your Blade Twin, who has aligned themselves with the British. Continue through Those Who Gather at Edo. With the Shogunate weakened and the anti-Shogunate movement gaining momentum, Kusaka eventually gives you another wonderfully peaceful assignment: assassinate Kaishu Katsu, a trusted commander of the Shogunate's navy. During Meeting Kaishu Katsu, confront Katsu and progress through the encounter. Rather than simply becoming another name on your increasingly impressive list of people you've stabbed, Katsu explains his desire to rebuild the Shogunate from within and help create a new Japan. Speak with him at the Sumida River to complete the required story sequence and unlock the trophy.

Continue through Chapter 2 until you complete the Level 32 Ronin Mission Strange Bedfellows and broker a temporary truce between the Roshigumi and the Choshu clan. After Tokugawa orders the formation of the Roshigumi, continue through Temper, Temper and Looking Ahead as you prepare for the journey to Kyoto. During Temper, Temper, you'll face Isami Kondo, Toshizo Hijikata, and Soji Okita, earning enough respect for you and Ryoma to infiltrate the Roshigumi. On the road to Kyoto, you'll discover that mercenaries have occupied Ejiri Post. Rather than adding another army to the growing list of people trying to kill each other, you'll temporarily bring the Roshigumi and Choshu forces together. Complete Strange Bedfellows and defeat the mercenaries with the combined forces to liberate Ejiri Post. This brokers the required truce and unlocks the trophy. Nothing brings rival factions together quite like discovering a third group of people they can both beat up.

Trophy: The Battle of Toba-Fushimi
Brought the Battle of Toba-Fushimi to an end.
Type: Bronze

Continue through Chapter 3 until you participate in and complete the Level 44 Ronin Mission The Battle of Toba-Fushimi. You'll reach this battle after progressing through Burgeoning Betrayal, The Feud in Aburanokoji, The Last Shogun, The End of the Shogunate, and The Omi Inn Incident. Eventually, tensions between the Shogunate and the Satsuma-Choshu forces boil over and another major battle becomes unavoidable. Before the battle, you'll once again choose which faction to support. This choice changes how you experience the conflict, but it won't lock you out of the trophy. If you want to see the other path later, you can change your decision using Testament of the Soul. Complete The Battle of Toba-Fushimi. The fighting ends with the Shogunate army suddenly retreating and your Blade Twin nowhere to be found on the battlefield. Finish the mission to unlock the trophy. Apparently forming an alliance only bought Japan about five minutes of peace. Back to the swords.

Complete Chapter 3 and finish the main story. This trophy unlocks alongside A Veiled Edge's Future after completing the final sequence involving Katsu, Saigo, and your Blade Twin. The negotiations prevent the conflict in Edo from escalating into another decisive battle, while your confrontation with your Blade Twin brings your personal journey to its conclusion. Finish the final story sequence to complete Chapter 3 and unlock the trophy automatically. That's it — three chapters, countless sword fights, several political factions, one extremely complicated sibling relationship, and approximately zero peaceful family dinners later, you've finished Rise of the Ronin.

Persuaded Takamori Saigo.
Type: Bronze

Unlock Details
Continue through Chapter 3 until you complete the Level 36 Ronin Mission The Satsuma-Choshu Alliance and successfully persuade Takamori Saigo. Following the Forbidden Gate Rebellion, the Choshu clan is in serious trouble after its defeat. Progress through Fate of the Vanquished, where you'll fight against the Shogunate forces attempting to eliminate the remaining Choshu members and help save Takasugi and his allies. Next, begin The Satsuma-Choshu Alliance. Despite the considerable bad blood between the two clans, you'll work alongside Ryoma and Katsura to convince Saigo that cooperation between Satsuma and Choshu is the better path forward. Successfully persuade Saigo and establish the alliance to unlock the trophy. After spending most of the game solving political disagreements with a sword, you've finally discovered diplomacy. Character development.

Start by playing through the story on whichever difficulty feels right. There are no difficulty-related trophies, and nothing is permanently missable because Testament of the Soul lets you revisit missions and change past decisions once you reach Chapter 2. That means you can actually enjoy the story instead of staring nervously at a trophy checklist every five minutes.
As you move through each area, prioritize the available Bond Missions before Ronin Missions. Missions have recommended levels, so completing Bond Missions first helps keep your level where it needs to be while also working toward Friendly Neighborhood Ronin. If you still find yourself underleveled, clear the Public Orders marked with red dots on the map for extra karma. Before dumping skill points everywhere, decide which weapon types you enjoy using, since each weapon is tied to two Skill Trees and improving those trees increases its effectiveness.
Start working naturally on the longer background trophies as soon as possible. Assassinate enemies whenever you get a clean opportunity for Shadow Stalker, which requires 100 assassinations, and investigate Chance Encounters whenever the ! marker appears within 100 meters. You eventually need 50 for Fancy Meeting You Here, and doing them as they appear is much less painful than trying to hunt random encounters later. Keep talking to NPCs and giving gifts as well; reaching Bond Level 4 can reward you with a special Skill Point.
Once Chapter 2 begins, Testament of the Soul becomes available through the Longhouse. This is your safety net for the entire Platinum run: you can revisit previous missions, change earlier choices, earn additional rewards, and deepen Bonds. Two story decisions can temporarily make Bond Missions unavailable — siding with the anti-Shogun faction around the Battle of the Forbidden Gate affects two Bond Missions tied to The Greater Opportunity, while choosing the anti-Shogun faction after reaching Kyoto affects another two connected to Farewell, Black Cat. They are not permanently missable, but choosing differently can save you some replaying later.
Keep completing the Bond Missions available in each state before moving too far ahead. There are 58 Bond Missions involving the game's 52 NPCs, and many are interconnected or add allies to your team. Finishing them as you progress is much cleaner than leaving a giant web of character missions for the end. If something from an earlier chapter remains unfinished, use Testament of the Soul at the Longhouse, open the Bond Missions tab, find the associated character, and return to complete it.
This is also a good time to make steady progress on exploration instead of leaving the entire map for cleanup. Activate Veiled Edge Banners whenever you encounter them so you build out the fast-travel network, clear Public Orders when convenient, and grab nearby collectibles as you explore. You need a very large portion of the game's collectibles for the Platinum, so every detour you handle naturally now is one less icon waiting for you later.
Continue through Chapter 3 and finish the story while keeping up with Bond Missions, relationships, exploration, and any convenient side activities. You need to reach Level 55 for Well-Rounded Ronin, so if your level falls behind the recommended level of upcoming missions, use remaining Bond Missions and Public Orders to catch up rather than forcing your way through underleveled fights.
After completing the story, Midnight difficulty becomes available through Testament of the Soul. Go to the Longhouse, enter Testament of the Soul, and press L3 to access Midnight. The opening Ronin Mission will now have a recommended level of 56, and the first chapter's Ronin and Bond Missions can be replayed from this menu. You only need to complete an optional Ronin Mission on Midnight for Midnight Crossing, so there is no need to replay the entire game on this difficulty.
There is also one specific mission worth revisiting for Tears of a Blue Demon. Use Testament of the Soul to replay the second Ronin Mission, Infiltrating the Black Ship, and defeat the Blue Demon at the end. Your first mission replay through Testament of the Soul will also earn Traveling Through Time. Once those are handled, the remaining work is largely exploration, activities, Bonds, and miscellaneous trophy cleanup.
The big cleanup is collectibles. Rise of the Ronin contains 660 collectibles across 41 Areas, and the Platinum requires you to deal with a substantial portion of them. Across the world there are 113 Veiled Edge Banners, 66 Public Orders, 70 Landmarks, 100 Cats, 44 Photograph Spots, 91 Fugitives, 113 Treasure Chests, 49 Shrines, 5 Firearm Trainings, 4 Horseback Archery Trainings, and 5 Gliding Trainings. Activate the Veiled Edge Banners first whenever possible because the fast-travel points make everything else much quicker. You need every Cat for Cats Over All, every Photograph Spot for Sightseer, and 50 Fugitives for Keeper of the Peace.
Use cleanup to finish the activity and miscellaneous trophies you did not earn naturally. Reach Master rank in one dojo challenge for Striver's License, horseback archery for Horseback Hero, gliding training for Winged Warrior, and firearms training for Firearm Genius. You can also clean up equipment and progression requirements such as Bond Transfer, equipping four pieces with the same set bonus, remodeling the Longhouse, mastering a stat type, conducting Technology Development 15 times, saving 150,000 sen, defeating enemies with every weapon, catching five cheaters in Odds and Evens, and gliding from the elevated deck of Kiyomizudera Temple for Dive of the Ronin.
Finally, check your Bond Missions and relationships through Testament of the Soul. Any missions locked by earlier story choices can be recovered here, so Friendly Neighborhood Ronin, The Greater Opportunity, Farewell, Black Cat, and the other Bond-related trophies can still be completed without another full playthrough. By this point, most miscellaneous requirements should already be finished from normal play, leaving you with a much more manageable cleanup instead of one enormous post-story grind. If one of those last collectibles, Bonds, or activity requirements refuses to cooperate, that is exactly the kind of thing you can Ask Gami about instead of wandering around Japan hoping the answer eventually finds you.
