Collect or craft all 78 required armor pieces, including Headgear, Body Armor, Armguards, and Leg Armor. Most armor is unlocked naturally by progressing through the story, defeating bosses, completing side quests, and exploring secret areas. Once unlocked, pieces can usually be crafted at a Keeper's Shrine. You won't have enough of certain limited crafting materials to make everything during your first playthrough, so New Game+ is required. Complete the major side quests and secret areas in both NG and NG+ to gather enough materials, especially Bull King's Iron Horns from Chapter 5’s secret area. Several armor pieces are also rare enemy drops. For these, equipping the Golden Carp Curio and Skull of Turtle Treasure can improve your farming chances. In NG+, you can obtain a second Golden Carp and equip both for an additional boost. Here are all 78 required pieces: Headgear Pilgrim's Headband Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Bronze Monkey Mask Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Grey Wolf Mask Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Monastic Insect Hat Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Snout Mask Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Galeguard Beast Mask Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Bull King's Mask Unlocked through progression and crafting using the required Bull King materials. Non-Pure Broken Mask Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Golden Mask of Fury Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Centipede Hat of Transcendence Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Yaksha Mask of Outrage Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Golden Feng-Tail Crown – Story Piece Obtained through Chapter 6 story progression. Iron Horned Helm Defeat Yin Tiger in a duel at Zodiac Village to unlock this piece for crafting. If you haven't unlocked Zodiac Village yet, complete Chen Loong's side quest. See Happy Harvest for the route. Golden Feng-Tail Crown – Secret Piece This is a separate version of the Golden Feng-Tail Crown obtained during the story and is also required for the trophy. It's found inside a chest in Chapter 6 alongside an entire secret armor set. Earth Spirit Cap Defeat Nine-Capped Lingzhi Guai. Travel to Field of Fire → Ashen Pass III and interact with the large mushroom behind the shrine to trigger the boss encounter. Defeat it for the guaranteed armor drop. Skull of Turtle Treasure – RNG Randomly dropped by Turtle Treasure enemies. A convenient farming location is Woods of Ember → Height of Ember. From the shrine, follow the path ahead, pass through the gate, and head downhill to find the enemy. Defeat it, rest, and repeat until the headgear drops. Locust Antennae Mask – RNG Randomly dropped by enemies that emerge from filled cocoons. One farming location is Webbed Hollow → Verdure Bridge. From the shrine, head left and cross the broken wooden bridge to find several filled cocoons. Defeat the enemies, rest, and repeat until the mask drops. See No Evil – RNG Randomly dropped by Blind Monk enemies. Travel to New Thunderclap Temple → Temple Entrance and follow the path toward the temple to find a Blind Monk. While farming here, you can also defeat the nearby Dual-Blade Monk and Thunder Rhino Masters if you still need their RNG Curios for A Curious Collection. Body Armor Tiger Hide Loincloth Unlocked through normal progression. Pilgrim's Garb Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Bronze Brocade Battlerobe Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Serpentscale Battlerobe Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Centipede Qiang-Jin Armor Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Galeguard Beastmaw Armor Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Ebongold Silk Robe Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Loongscale Battlerobe Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Ochre Battlerobe Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Yin-Yang Daoist Robe Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Venomous Sting Insect Armor Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Non-Pure Armor of Coiling Loong Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Golden Embroidered Shirt Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Bull King's Shan Wen Armor Unlocked through progression and crafting using the required Bull King materials. Embroidered Shirt of Outrage Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Iron-Tough Armor Defeat Yin Tiger in a duel at Zodiac Village to unlock this piece for crafting. Gold Suozi Armor – Story Piece Obtained through Chapter 6 story progression. Gold Suozi Armor – Secret Piece This is a separate version of the Gold Suozi Armor obtained during the story. Despite having the same name, it has different stats and is required for the trophy. It's found inside the same Chapter 6 chest containing the secret Golden Feng-Tail Crown. Ginseng Cape Defeat Old Ginseng Guai in Valley of Ecstasy. Start at Forest of Felicity and follow the path with the torii gates and wooden flooring. Pass the tall stone pillar and another torii gate. Before reaching the third gate, take the steep path on the left downhill and follow the path on the right. After passing another gate, head right toward the tall stone pillar and interact with the fake plant in the middle of the area. This triggers the Old Ginseng Guai fight. Defeat it for the Ginseng Cape. Armguards Cotton Wristwraps Unlocked through normal progression. Pilgrim Wristwraps Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Bronze Armguard Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Serpentscale Bracers Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Insect Spike Bracers Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Galeguard Bracers Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Yaksha Bracers of Outrage Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Iron-Tough Gauntlets Defeat Yin Tiger in a duel at Zodiac Village to unlock this piece for crafting. Dian-Cui Loong-Soaring Bracers – Story Piece Obtained through Chapter 6 story progression. Dian-Cui Loong-Soaring Bracers – Secret Piece This is a separate version of the Chapter 6 story armor and is also required. It's found inside the same chest containing the secret Golden Feng-Tail Crown and Gold Suozi Armor. Guanyin's Prayer Beads Found inside a wooden chest in Chapter 1’s secret area. Travel to Ancient Guanyin Temple → Grand Chamber and search near the shrine for the chest. See Temple of Taint if you still need to unlock the secret area. Vajra Armguard – RNG Randomly dropped by the Clay Vajra enemy. Travel to New Thunderclap Temple → Mahavira Hall. Head down two sets of stairs, take the left path down another staircase, and pass through the gate. The Clay Vajra is the four-legged enemy capable of breathing fire in the center of this area. Defeat it, rest, and repeat until the Vajra Armguard drops. Venomous Armguard – MISSABLE During your first encounter with Venom Daoist, you must break four of his arms before defeating him. Travel to Webbed Hollow → Pool of Shattered Jade and take the right path while facing the shrine. Destroy the large cocoon to begin the encounter. During the fight, focus your attacks on Venom Daoist's back until you've broken four arms. Only then should you finish the fight. See The Cockerel Crowed for more information on Venom Daoist and Purple Cloud Mountain. Leg Armor Cotton Legwraps Unlocked through normal progression. Pilgrim's Legwraps Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Bronze Buskins Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Serpentscale Gaiters Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Insect Spike Gaiters Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Galeguard Greaves Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Ebongold Gaiters Unlocked through normal progression and crafting. Iron-Tough Greaves Defeat Yin Tiger in a duel at Zodiac Village to unlock this piece for crafting. Lotus Silk Cloudtreaders – Story Piece Obtained through Chapter 6 story progression. Lotus Silk Cloudtreaders – Secret Piece This is a separate version of the Chapter 6 story piece and is required for the trophy. It's found inside the same Chapter 6 chest containing the rest of the secret armor set. The remaining required pieces come from the armor sets and progression listed above, so make sure you've actually crafted every available piece rather than simply unlocking its recipe. The trophy requires the complete armor collection.

Tip

For rare enemy drops, equip the Golden Carp and Skull of Turtle Treasure to improve your farming odds. In NG+, a second Golden Carp can improve the setup further. And whenever the game gives you the choice between "probably enough crafting materials" and "pick up absolutely everything," this trophy strongly recommends becoming a hoarder.

Warning

Venomous Armguard is the most important missable piece. During the first Venom Daoist encounter in Chapter 4, break four of his arms by attacking from behind before killing him. If you defeat him without obtaining it, you'll need another playthrough. Also conserve limited crafting materials, particularly Bull King's Iron Horns. Complete Chapter 5’s secret area and the other major side content during both NG and NG+; skipping limited materials can potentially push your cleanup into NG++.

Trophy: Portraits Perfected

Humans, beasts, yaoguais, and the Bodhisattvas. All recorded and noted.

Type: Gold

Category: Missable

Unlock Details

Complete every Journal entry in the game. This requires recording all of the required humans, beasts, Yaoguais, bosses, and other characters you encounter throughout your journey. Several Journal entries are missable, but completed Journal progress carries into New Game+, so anything you miss can be collected during your next cycle. Pay particular attention to these missable entries: Lantern Holder – Chapter 3 Travel to Pagoda Realm → Lower Pagoda. While exploring the Pagoda Realm, you'll periodically enter a special state where your eyes glow red and your maximum health is reduced. The Lantern enemies only appear during this state. Defeat at least one Lantern enemy to obtain its Journal entry. There are 9 Lantern enemies in total, and defeating all of them is also important for A Curious Collection. Make sure you deal with the Lantern enemies before defeating Captain Wise-Voice. Once Captain Wise-Voice is defeated, they will no longer spawn. Apramana Bat – Chapter 3 Travel to Bitter Lake → North Shore of Bitter Lake. Follow the coastline to the right until you reach the large skeleton, where Apramana Bat will appear. Defeat Apramana Bat during your first visit to the North Shore of Bitter Lake. Do this before progressing to the Valley of Ecstasy later in Chapter 3, as the encounter can become unavailable afterward. Crane Immortal – Chapter 4 Complete the Purple Altars quest before defeating Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master at the end of Chapter 4. You need to interact with four altars: Altar 1 – Webbed Hollow → The Verdure Bridge Cross the green bridge and turn left toward the two lanterns. Drop down into the village and continue toward the upper section to find the first altar. Altar 2 – Webbed Hollow → Cliff of Oblivion The second altar is directly in front of the shrine. Altar 3 – Webbed Hollow → Relief of the Fallen Loong Enter the cave on the left and continue to the end to find the third altar. See The Sire and Sons if you still need directions to the Relief of the Fallen Loong shrine. Altar 4 – Temple of the Yellow Flowers → Court of Illumination After interacting with the previous three altars, the final part of the quest becomes available here. Defeat the boss associated with the final altar to obtain the Crane Immortal Journal entry. Complete all four altars before defeating Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master or you'll be locked out of this quest for the current playthrough. Scorpionlord – Chapter 4 Scorpionlord is found inside Purple Cloud Mountain, Chapter 4’s secret area. Defeat him before progressing to Duskveil. See The Cockerel Crowed for his exact location and the other important objectives inside Purple Cloud Mountain. Daoist Mi – Chapter 4 Daoist Mi is also found inside Purple Cloud Mountain. Complete his side quest before defeating Duskveil to secure his Journal entry. You'll also obtain the Violet Hail spell needed for Fickle Forms. See The Cockerel Crowed for the complete Daoist Mi quest. Once you've secured the missable entries, continue filling your Journal by defeating any remaining enemies and bosses and completing the required character encounters. Check your Journal for blank entries to help narrow down what you're missing. Once every required Journal portrait has been recorded, Portraits Perfected will unlock.

Tip

Check your Journal periodically instead of leaving everything for the end. Hunting down one missing Yaoguai is manageable. Staring at a nearly complete Journal wondering which weird creature you walked past 30 hours ago is a different kind of boss fight.

Warning

Lantern Holder, Apramana Bat, Crane Immortal, Scorpionlord, and Daoist Mi can become unavailable during the current playthrough after certain story or boss progression. Prioritize these entries when you reach their chapters. If you do miss one, your Journal progress carries into New Game+, so you won't need to collect everything again.

Complete Ma Tianba’s questline by finding and speaking with the Horse NPC across Chapters 1–5. This trophy is highly missable. Make sure you find Ma Tianba and exhaust all of his dialogue in each chapter before progressing too far into the next one. Chapter 1 – Bamboo Grove Travel to Bamboo Grove → Back Hills. Head down the stairs and take the path on the left to find a cave. Enter the cave and look along the right side to find Ma Tianba sitting inside. Speak with him and exhaust all of his dialogue. Chapter 2 – Sandgate Village Travel to Sandgate Village → Village Entrance. Cross the bridge and look near the large statue on the left side of the village entrance to find Ma Tianba. If the nearby door is still locked, go around the village from the right side and unlock it from the opposite direction. There is also a Wolf mini-boss in this area. Defeat it before speaking with Ma Tianba, then exhaust all of his dialogue. Chapter 3 – New Thunderclap Temple Travel to New Thunderclap Temple → Temple Entrance. Head toward the temple and exit through the other side. When you reach the two sets of stairs, take the left staircase and follow the left side of the building until you reach another set of stairs. Go down, enter the temple, and make your way up to the balcony. Exit through the door, turn left, and continue to the end of the path. You'll find Ma Tianba leaning against one of the pillars. Speak with him and exhaust his dialogue. Chapter 4 – Webbed Hollow You'll encounter Ma Tianba as you progress through Webbed Hollow → Middle Hollow. He'll emerge from a cocoon along the route toward the Cliff of Oblivion shrine. Speak with him and exhaust all of his dialogue before continuing. Chapter 5 – Furnace Valley After defeating the Keeper of the Flaming Mountains, travel to Furnace Valley → Valley Entrance. Follow the path forward until it splits. The left path heads uphill, while the right crosses a stream of lava. Take the right path, cross the lava, and continue until you find a destroyed golden cart with Ma Tianba trapped inside. After completing Chapter 5, return to the cart and pull the string again. You'll receive the Dark Thunder spell and unlock Urge Unfulfilled. The Fireproof Mantle can be useful while traveling through the lava-filled area.

Tip

Whenever you find the Horse, keep talking until he has absolutely nothing new to say. Five chapters is a long time to follow one NPC around, but at least this horse finally rewards your dedication with a trophy and Dark Thunder instead of another fetch quest.

Warning

This quest is highly missable. Speak with Ma Tianba and exhaust all of his dialogue during every chapter before advancing too far. Missing one of his encounters can prevent you from completing the quest during that playthrough.

Collect all 36 Curios in the game. Curios are accessories that provide passive bonuses while equipped, and several are random enemy drops that may require some farming. Two Curios are particularly important to watch for because they are missable: Cat Eye Beads from Wandering Wight in Chapter 1 and Auspicious Lantern from defeating all 9 Lantern Wardens in Chapter 3 before Captain Wise-Voice. For the RNG Curios, equip the Golden Carp and Skull of Turtle Treasure to improve your chances of receiving enemy drops. Their effects stack, and you can eventually equip a second Golden Carp obtained in New Game+ for an additional boost. Here are all 36 Curios and where to find them: Cat Eye Beads Defeat Wandering Wight in Chapter 1. Travel to Forest of Wolves → Outside the Forest. Head right, cross the wooden bridge, and you'll find Wandering Wight nearby. Defeat him before entering Chapter 1’s secret area, as Wandering Wight will disappear afterward. See The Sire and Sons for the Loong quest and Red Loong's location. Auspicious Lantern Defeat all 9 Lantern Wardens in the Pagoda Realm before defeating Captain Wise-Voice. Once Captain Wise-Voice is defeated, the Wardens will no longer spawn. Fine China Tea Bowl Travel to Pagoda Realm → Lower Pagoda. Enter the prison cell beside the shrine and follow the path until you can leave through an open cell door. Continue along the cliffside until you reach the end. The Curio is inside a box on a table to the left. Frostsprout Twig Defeat Captain Lotus-Vision. Travel to Pagoda Realm → Upper Pagoda and enter the nearby cell. Drop down to the right to reach the boss. Try landing on the small roof below before dropping all the way down to reduce your fall damage. Mani Bead – RNG Randomly dropped by Withered Corpses found throughout the snowy regions. A good farming location is Pagoda Realm → Warding Temple. Head down the slope and take the right path at the split to find several Withered Corpses. You can also use Snowhill Path → Mirrormere, where a Withered Corpse can be found near a tree behind the shrine. Defeat the enemies, rest, and repeat until the Mani Bead drops. Maitreya's Orb Travel to Valley of Ecstasy → Mindfulness Cliff. Take the right path and cross the wooden plank. Enter the narrow passage on the left and continue until you reach a large area filled with candles. Open the box on the left side to obtain the Curio. You'll find the Curio inside a box on a table. Snow Fox Brush Complete the Snow Fox side quest to receive this Curio as the reward. Beast Buddha – RNG Randomly dropped by Dual-Blade Monks. Travel to New Thunderclap Temple → Temple Entrance and head toward the temple. There's a Dual-Blade Monk close to the shrine that you can repeatedly defeat. If the Curio doesn't drop, rest and try again. Thunderflame Seal – RNG Randomly dropped by Thunder Rhino Masters, the monks carrying lightning staffs. Travel to New Thunderclap Temple → Temple Entrance. Head through the temple and exit the opposite side to reach two sets of stairs where several Thunder Rhino Masters can be found. Defeat them, rest, and repeat until the Curio drops. Bronze Buddha Pendant – RNG Randomly dropped by Wolf Guardians. Travel to Valley of Ecstasy → Longevity Road and head backward along the main path toward the guarded gate. Continue until you leave the path and reach the wall, then turn left to find the enemy behind a small rock. If you reach the guarded gate, you've gone too far. Cuo Jin-Yin Belt Hook Travel to Webbed Hollow → Upper Hollow. While facing the shrine, take the short path on the right to find a golden chest containing the Curio. Spine in the Sack – RNG Randomly obtained by breaking empty cocoons throughout Webbed Hollow. A good farming location is Webbed Hollow → The Verdure Bridge, where several cocoons can be found relatively close to the shrine. Break them, rest, and repeat until the Curio drops. Golden Carp Defeat the final enemy in the Loong side quest. See The Sire and Sons for the complete Loong questline. Jade Moon Rabbit Obtained automatically during the story after defeating Zhu Bajie in Webbed Hollow. Tablet of the Three Supreme Travel to Temple of the Yellow Flowers → Forest of Ferocity. Take the path on the right and climb the stairs. You'll encounter several Sword Daoists being trained by Commander Beetle. Defeat the enemies and open the box at the back to obtain the Curio. Virtuous Bamboo Engraving – RNG Randomly dropped by Worm Practitioners in the Temple of the Yellow Flowers. Travel to Temple Entrance, climb the stairs, and pass through the building on the right to find several Worm Practitioners. Defeat them, rest, and repeat until the Curio drops. Celestial Registry Tablet Found inside Chapter 4’s secret area, Purple Cloud Mountain. Travel to Petalfall Hamlet and head right to find the Curio inside a small box in the gazebo. See The Cockerel Crowed if you still need to unlock Purple Cloud Mountain. Golden Sun Crow Travel to Purple Cloud Mountain → Valley of Blooms. Cross the bridge and take the left path. At the next split, take the right path and climb the hill. At the top, jump onto the broken tree trunk to reach the wooden chest containing the Curio. Tiger Tendon Belt – RNG Randomly dropped by Snake Sheriffs. Travel to Temple of the Yellow Flowers → Court of Illumination and head down the stairs. You'll pass two guards near the entrance, with a Snake Sheriff standing on the left side. Defeat it, rest, and repeat until the Curio drops. Preservation Orb Travel to Temple of the Yellow Flowers → Court of Illumination. Head down the stairs and continue straight. Climb each set of stairs until you reach the fork at the top, then take the left path down the steep slope. Enter the cave where you fight Venom Daoist and exit through the other side. You'll find the Curio inside a box toward the back of the area. Amber Prayer Beads Travel to Woods of Ember → Height of Ember. Follow the path behind the shrine and look for a door on the right. Open it, enter the cave, and take the right path to reach the box containing the Curio. White Seashell Waist Chain – RNG Randomly dropped by Bull Stalwarts in Furnace Valley. Travel to The Emerald Hall shrine and head down the stairs to find one or two Bull Stalwarts. Defeat them, rest, and repeat until the Curio drops. Gold Button Defeat the giant enemy near The Emerald Hall shrine in Furnace Valley. The Fireproof Mantle is useful here because you'll be dealing with the surrounding lava while reaching the enemy. Flame Orb Defeat Rusty-Gold Cart during the Five Elements Carts side quest. See Frost and Flame for the complete questline. Daoist's Basket of Fire and Water Defeat Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast, the final boss of Chapter 5’s secret area. See Frost and Flame for the complete route. Celestial Birthstone Fragment Defeat Lang-Baw-Baw in Chapter 6. The frog is found near the Rhino Watch Slope shrine. Descend the mountain and head toward the right side to locate it. Waterward Orb Defeat Jiao-Loong of Waves in Chapter 6. You'll find this mini-boss in the pond beneath the mountain edge where you obtain the Somersault Cloud in the Foothills region.

Tip

For the RNG Curios, equip the Golden Carp and Skull of Turtle Treasure to improve enemy drop rates. Then settle in and prepare for the true final boss of Black Myth: Wukong — convincing the RNG gods that you've suffered enough.

Warning

Cat Eye Beads and Auspicious Lantern are missable. Defeat Wandering Wight before entering Chapter 1’s secret area for Cat Eye Beads, and defeat all 9 Lantern Wardens before Captain Wise-Voice in Chapter 3 for Auspicious Lantern. Missing either means you'll need to collect it in New Game+.

See The Cockerel Crowed for the complete secret-area requirements. Mount Lingtai Seedlings Travel to Woods of Ember → Camp of Seasons. Cross the bridge and take the left path at the split. Cross another bridge and climb the second set of stairs on the right. Open the golden container to obtain the Soak. Slumbering Beetle Husk Found on the left side of The Emerald Hall temple in Furnace Valley. Flame Meditation – RNG Randomly dropped by the large-headed lava rock enemies. Several can be found around Field of Fire → Cooling Slope. Defeat them, rest, and repeat until the Soak drops. Flower Primes Purchase from Shen Monkey after reaching Chapter 6. Graceful Orchid Give all 15 Seeds to Chen Loong. See Seeds to Sow for all Seed requirements and locations. Guanyin's Willow Leaf Purchase from Shen Monkey in New Game+. Once you've obtained every required Gourd, Drink, and Soak, Brewer's Bounty will unlock.

Tip

Start harvesting every Licorice, Lotus, and Ginseng plant you pass as you play. Several Soaks are RNG rewards from gathering plants, and getting lucky naturally is much nicer than spending your Platinum cleanup running between the same plants while questioning every decision that brought you here.

Warning

Stained Jade Gourd is missable. Defeat Scorpionlord in Purple Cloud Mountain before fighting Duskveil or you'll lose access to the Gourd for that playthrough. This trophy also requires Guanyin's Willow Leaf from New Game+, so it cannot be completed entirely during your first cycle.

Trophy: Fickle Forms

Transformations and Spirit Skills, you have mastered them all!

Type: Silver

Category: Collectible

Unlock Details

Collect every required Spell, Transformation, and Spirit in the game. Spells You'll need the complete Spell collection for this trophy, which you'll already be working toward for Master of Magic. See Master of Magic for all Spell locations and requirements. Transformations There are 10 Transformations to collect: Red Tides Defeat Guangzhi in Chapter 1. Travel to Forest of Wolves → Outside the Forest and follow the path toward Guangzhi's arena. After defeating him, interact with his weapon to obtain Red Tides. Azure Dust Complete the Man-in-Stone quest in Chapter 2. Travel to Fright Cliff → Squall Hideout and find Man-in-Stone in the ravine. You'll first need the Stone Essence obtained by defeating Mother of Stone. Give the Stone Essence to Man-in-Stone and complete the encounter to obtain Azure Dust. See Master of Magic for the complete route. Ashen Slumber Obtained during the Prisoner questline in Chapter 3. Return to the prisoner in Pagoda Realm → Lower Pagoda. A corpse with a blade in its chest can be found nearby. Interact with the blade to obtain Ashen Slumber. See Staffs and Spears for the Prisoner/Third Prince questline. Ebon Flow Defeat Yin Tiger in a duel at Zodiac Village. Speak with Yin Tiger and select Challenge to begin the fight. Defeat him to obtain Ebon Flow. You'll need to unlock Zodiac Village through Chen Loong's side quest first. See Happy Harvest for the requirements. Hoarfrost Travel to New Thunderclap Temple → Temple Entrance. Head right and follow the path uphill until you encounter Monk from the Sea. Defeat him to obtain Hoarfrost. Umbral Abyss Obtained automatically after defeating Yellowbrow at the end of Chapter 3. Violet Hail – MISSABLE Complete Daoist Mi's quest inside Purple Cloud Mountain during Chapter 4. You must finish his quest before defeating Duskveil. Once Duskveil is defeated, you'll lose the opportunity to obtain Violet Hail during that playthrough. See The Cockerel Crowed for the complete Daoist Mi quest. Golden Lining Defeat Yellow Loong. Yellow Loong is the final boss associated with the Loong side quest spanning Chapters 1–4. See The Sire and Sons for the complete Loong questline. Dark Thunder – MISSABLE Complete Ma Tianba's Horse NPC questline spanning Chapters 1–5. You'll need to encounter and exhaust his dialogue throughout the game before completing the final portion of his quest in Chapter 5. See Urge Unfulfilled for the complete route. Azure Dome Complete the secret ending route. See Meet the Match for all requirements leading to the secret ending. Spirits You'll also need to collect the complete Spirit collection. Spirits are primarily obtained by defeating specific enemies and absorbing the Spirits they leave behind. Make sure you actually collect the Spirit after defeating the enemy rather than simply winning the fight. Pay particular attention to the missable Spirits as you progress. The supplied guide notes that three Spirits beginning in Chapter 1 are missable, so these should be prioritized rather than leaving the entire Spirit collection for endgame cleanup. Once you've collected all required Spells, Transformations, and Spirits, Fickle Forms will unlock.

Tip

Work on Spirits as you explore instead of saving them all for the end. If an enemy drops a Spirit, absorb it before moving on. You'll need the full collection anyway, and "I'll remember to come back later" has claimed enough trophy hunters already.

Warning

Several requirements are missable. Violet Hail must be obtained from Daoist Mi before defeating Duskveil, while Dark Thunder requires completing Ma Tianba's Horse NPC questline across Chapters 1–5. There are also missable Spirits, so don't assume every Spirit can be cleaned up after finishing the story.

Unlock Details

Collect all 17 Spells. Most can still be obtained after completing the story, but Violet Hail and Dark Thunder are missable, so make sure you complete their associated quests during your first playthrough. Here are all 17 Spells and how to obtain them: Chapter 1 Immobilize Obtained automatically during the story while fighting Bullguard. Red Tides Defeat Guangzhi. Travel to Forest of Wolves → Outside the Forest. Head right from the shrine, cross the wooden bridge, and follow the torch-lit path to reach Guangzhi. Defeat him to obtain Red Tides. Cloud Step Obtained automatically after defeating Black Wind King during the story. Chapter 2 Rock Solid Obtained automatically after defeating Tiger Vanguard. A Pluck of Many Defeat Tiger Vanguard at Crouching Tiger Temple and interact with the statue to open the underground route toward the Cellar shrine. You'll also need to defeat Stone Vanguard, found near Rockrest Flat, to activate the statue. Near the Cellar shrine, you'll receive A Pluck of Many from the Headless Monk following a short cutscene. Azure Dust Complete the Man-in-Stone quest. First, defeat Mother of Stone to obtain the Stone Essence. She can be found inside a cave near Rockrest Flat. Next, travel to Fright Cliff → Squall Hideout. While facing the shrine, take the path on the right and continue to the end to find Man-in-Stone. Give him the Stone Essence, defeat him when the fight begins, and you'll receive Azure Dust. Chapter 3 Ashen Slumber Complete the prisoner side quest. See Staffs and Spears for the Third Prince portion of the quest. Afterward, travel to Pagoda Realm → Lower Pagoda and return to the prisoner's cell. Interact with the sword inside the two-headed rat to obtain Ashen Slumber. If it isn't there, the rat may instead appear one floor above. Travel to Upper Pagoda, head down the stairs, and follow the path until you encounter it. Defeat it to obtain the spell. Ring of Fire Travel to Pagoda Realm → Warding Temple. Head upstairs into the temple and defeat Macaque Chief again. After the fight, the Old Man sitting inside the Ring of Fire will give you the spell. Ebon Flow Defeat Yin Tiger in Zodiac Village. Speak with Yin Tiger and select Challenge to begin the duel. Defeat him to receive Ebon Flow. You'll need to unlock Zodiac Village through Chen Loong’s side quest first. See Happy Harvest for the requirements. Spell Binder Complete the Treasure Hunter side quest in Chapter 3. See Meet the Match for the complete Treasure Hunter questline. You'll receive the spell as part of your reward for completing the fight. Chapter 4 Violet Hail – MISSABLE Complete Daoist Mi’s side quest inside Purple Cloud Mountain. This quest must be completed before defeating Duskveil, the final boss of Chapter 4’s secret area. See The Cockerel Crowed for the complete Daoist Mi quest. Golden Lining Obtain the Loong Scales and defeat all four Loong bosses across Chapters 1–4. See The Sire and Sons for all four locations. Chapter 5 Dark Thunder – MISSABLE Complete Ma Tianba’s Horse NPC questline and save him from the Element Cart in Chapter 5. This quest spans Chapters 1–5 and is highly missable, so see Urge Unfulfilled for the complete route. Chapter 6 Somersault Cloud Defeat Supreme Inspector, the first main boss of Chapter 6. Somersault Cloud is awarded automatically through story progression. Azure Dome Complete the secret ending route to obtain Azure Dome. See Meet the Match for the requirements leading to the secret ending. New Game+ You'll also receive Life-Saving Strand at the beginning of New Game+. This is awarded automatically upon entering your next cycle.

Tip

Work on the side-quest Spells as you progress instead of leaving the entire collection for cleanup. Most are easy enough to grab along the way, and you'll actually get to use them instead of collecting 17 magical abilities five minutes before retiring to New Game+.

Warning

Violet Hail and Dark Thunder are the two Spells you need to be especially careful with. Complete Daoist Mi’s quest before defeating Duskveil for Violet Hail, and follow Ma Tianba’s quest through Chapters 1–5 for Dark Thunder. Missing either means you'll need another opportunity in New Game+.

Travel to Bitter Lake → Turtle Island and head uphill. Follow the route through the narrow passage to reach an area containing four of these enemies.

Defeat all four, rest, and repeat until the Seed drops.

Licorice
Randomly obtained while harvesting Licorice.

Travel to Kingdom of Sahali → Sandgate Pass.

You'll find one plant along the path toward the desert, another on the right side of the desert, and three more on the left.

This is also a useful farm if you still need the Goat Skull Soak for Brewer's Bounty.

Fire Date
Randomly obtained while harvesting Fire Date trees.

Travel to Furnace Valley → Valley Entrance and follow the main path.

Before reaching the fork, drop into the lava and search the area for six Fire Date trees.

Once you've collected all 15 Seeds, give them to Chen Loong in Zodiac Village to complete the collection and unlock Seeds to Sow.

Tip

Farm multiple Seed locations before waiting for plants to respawn. Several areas have clusters close to Keeper's Shrines, and you can combine some farms with other RNG collectibles. You're going to become surprisingly knowledgeable about fictional botany before this Platinum is over.

Trophy: Staffs and Spears

A walking vault of arms you have become!

Type: Silver

Category: Collectible

Unlock Details

Collect or craft all 20 required Staffs and Spears. Most weapons can be crafted at any Keeper's Shrine by selecting Craft → Craft Weapon. Some belong to weapon upgrade trees, but each variation must still be crafted individually for the trophy. Several weapons require specific bosses, side quests, secret areas, or materials, and some cannot be completed until New Game+. Plan your materials carefully, especially Bull King's Iron Horns, Sky-Piercing Horns, and other limited resources, or you may need to progress further into another cycle. Two additional objectives are especially important for this trophy: The Third Prince Side Quest This Chapter 3 quest is required to unlock the Chu-Bai Spear. Travel to Pagoda Realm → Lower Pagoda and return to the area where you were originally imprisoned. An NPC inside a nearby cell will ask you to collect four Captain Spirits. Travel to Pagoda Realm → Upper Pagoda. Turn around and drop down to defeat the boss holding the first Spirit. Defeat Captain Wise-Voice at Pagoda Realm → The New West as part of story progression for the second Spirit. Travel to Valley of Ecstasy → Longevity Road. You'll need four Sky-Piercing Horns in total, including another obtained by defeating Fuban again in New Game+. Materials: Sky-Piercing Horn ×4 Gold Tree Core ×4 Kun Steel ×2 Will ×45,000 Once all 20 required Staffs and Spears have been obtained or individually crafted, Staffs and Spears will unlock.

Tip

Use the weapon list at a Keeper's Shrine to keep track of which variations you've actually crafted. Unlocking a weapon recipe isn't enough when crafting is required — apparently becoming a walking vault of arms means the vault has to be fully stocked.

Warning

This trophy requires New Game+ and several limited crafting materials. Complete the relevant secret bosses and side quests during your first playthrough, especially Fuban, Scorpionlord, and Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast, and don't waste rare materials unnecessarily. Poor material planning can push the final weapon into another cycle.

Trophy: The Clamor of Frogs

Six frogs, six skills—how intriguing!

Type: Bronze

Category: Collectible

Unlock Details

Defeat all six frog bosses hidden throughout the game. There is one frog in each chapter, and none of them are missable, so you can return for any you skipped. Most of the frogs share similar attacks, but several add different Bane effects to the fight. Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang – Chapter 1 Travel to Bamboo Grove → Snake Trail. Go up the stairs and follow the path downhill until you reach the river. Follow the river to the right to find Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang. Defeat the frog and collect its Spirit, which you'll also need for Fickle Forms. Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw – Chapter 2 Travel to Sandgate Village → Village Entrance. While facing the shrine, head left, enter the cave, and drop down from the other side to reach Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw. This frog uses Thunder attacks, so Shock-Quelling Powder can help increase your resistance. You'll also encounter this boss while working toward Creative Concoction. Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang – Chapter 3 Travel to Valley of Ecstasy → Forest of Felicity. Take the path ahead of the shrine and look for a small cave on the right. Go through the cave to find Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang. This frog uses Frost attacks, so Body-Warming Powder can help increase your resistance. Baw-Li-Guhh-Baw – Chapter 4 Travel to Webbed Hollow → Lower Hollow. While facing the shrine, take the path on the left and stay close to the left wall. After crossing the first group of spider webs and eggs, look for a crack in the wall. Go through the crack and start climbing the stairs. About halfway up, take the path on the left and follow it to reach Baw-Li-Guhh-Baw. This version of the frog uses Poison attacks. Baw-Lang-Lang – Chapter 5 Travel to Field of Fire → Cooling Slope. Go through the large gate leading toward the secret area and look to the left side of the arena to find Baw-Lang-Lang. You can return here if you've already entered the secret area. See Frost and Flame if you still need to unlock access. This frog uses Scorch attacks. Lang-Baw-Baw – Chapter 6 Travel to Foothills → Rhino Watch Slope. Use the cloud and fly forward past the rhino battlefield until you reach the edge of the mountain. Descend into the area below to find Lang-Baw-Baw along with several human enemies. This frog can use a rock transformation to block your attacks. Charge a heavy attack when you have an opening and use it to deal damage or knock the frog out of its rock state. Defeat all six frogs to unlock The Clamor of Frogs.

Tip

If you're missing one, work through the chapters in order using the list above. Each frog has its own elemental gimmick, but underneath it all they're still giant frogs trying to ruin your day.

Three Vessels come from completing secret areas in Chapters 1, 2, and 4, while the final Vessel is obtained automatically during the story. You'll need to ring all three bells found throughout Chapter 1 to reach the Ancient Guanyin Temple and fight him. See Temple of Taint for the complete route. Wind Tamer – Chapter 2 Defeat Fuban, the final boss of Chapter 2’s secret area. You'll gain access by completing the Drunken Boar side quest. See Shifting Sands for the complete quest. Weaver’s Needle – Chapter 4 Defeat Duskveil, the final boss of Purple Cloud Mountain, Chapter 4’s secret area. Reaching Purple Cloud Mountain requires completing the Venom Daoist encounters, and there are several other important objectives worth completing while you're there. See The Cockerel Crowed for the full secret-area walkthrough. Plantain Fan – Chapter 5 Complete Chapter 5 and watch the final cutscene. The Plantain Fan is awarded automatically as part of the story. Once all four Vessels are in your collection, Treasure Trove will unlock.

Tip

Don't forget that Vessels aren't just trophy collectibles. Each has useful combat effects, and several are specifically designed to make certain bosses much easier. Turns out collecting ancient magical artifacts is useful for more than filling out a menu.

Trophy: Meet the Match

"Let go of him, and you let go of all."

Type: Gold

Category: Ending

Unlock Details

Name: Meet the Match Category: Ending How to Unlock: Defeat Erlang, the Sacred Divinity as part of the game’s secret ending route. You can still complete the requirements after finishing the regular ending. After the credits, choose Continue Journey rather than starting New Game+ so you can return to the world and finish anything you're missing. To unlock the path to Erlang, you need to complete the secret areas in Chapters 1, 2, 4, and 5, along with the Treasure Hunter side quest in Chapter 3. Complete these secret-area objectives: Chapter 1 – Defeat Elder Jinchi Complete the three-bell secret area and defeat Elder Jinchi. See Temple of Taint for the full route. Chapter 2 – Defeat Fuban Complete the Drunken Boar quest, enter the secret area, and defeat Fuban. See Shifting Sands for the full route. Chapter 4 – Defeat Duskveil Unlock Purple Cloud Mountain and defeat Duskveil. See The Cockerel Crowed for the full route. Chapter 5 – Defeat Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast Complete Pale-Axe Stalwart’s questline, enter the secret area, and defeat the Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast. See Frost and Flame for the full route. You also need to complete Chapter 3’s Treasure Hunter quest: Rescue the Treasure Hunter Travel to Chapter 3 → North Shore of Bitter Lake. Follow the coastline toward the hut near where you previously encountered Chen Loong. Go through the red gate and continue along the path until you find several enemies outside a building. Defeat them, then speak with the Treasure Hunter and exhaust all of his dialogue. Warm the Treasure Hunter Travel to Valley of Ecstasy → Forest of Felicity. Follow the path through the torii gates. After passing the tall stone pillar and second torii gate, take the steep path on the left before reaching the third gate. Continue downhill and along the narrow path until you reach the Towers of Karma shrine. At the shrine, equip the Ring of Fire spell. Turn around and walk away from the shrine to find the Treasure Hunter sitting on a rock to the right behind some bushes. Stand near him and cast Ring of Fire to warm him up. Speak with him afterward and exhaust all of his dialogue before leaving. Find the Melon Field Return to Valley of Ecstasy → Forest of Felicity. Head toward the bridge, but take the path on the right and descend the mountain. You'll eventually reach a long bridge leading toward a red building. Don't cross the bridge. Instead, continue along the path on the left until you reach a pond. At the back-right side of the pond, approach the cliff and drop down onto the ledge below. Cross the tree branch to the other side and follow the path until you reach the Melon Field shrine. Rest at the shrine, enter the cave, and defeat the Green-Capped Martialist. You'll receive the Spell Binder spell for completing the quest. Enter the Great Pagoda Once you've defeated the required secret bosses and completed the Treasure Hunter quest, travel to Pagoda Realm → Snow-Veiled Trail. While facing the shrine, take the path on the left and cross the long bridge. Continue along the linear route until you reach the large doorway leading into the Great Pagoda. Activate the Great Pagoda shrine, then head up the stairs to trigger a cutscene and open the way to the secret area. After being transported, follow the narrow mountain path and rest at the Mei-Jian Peak shrine. Defeat Erlang, the Sacred Divinity Continue forward from Mei-Jian Peak to begin the battle with Erlang. This is one of the game’s toughest encounters, so completing the main story and your other cleanup first can leave you much better prepared. At this point, Erlang isn't checking whether you learned the combat system — he's checking whether you earned a degree in it. Defeat Erlang, the Sacred Divinity to complete this portion of the secret ending route and unlock Meet the Match.

Tip

You don't need to rush this before the regular ending. Finish the main story, choose Continue Journey after the credits, clean up the secret-area requirements, and then return for Erlang when you're properly prepared.

Warning

Do not start New Game+ after the regular ending if you still need to complete this route. Choose Continue Journey so you can return to the current world and finish the secret-ending requirements first.

Trophy: Always Accompanied

How odd to encounter this old man at every corner!

Type: Bronze

Unlock Details

Fully upgrade your starting gourd to 10 sips and follow the Old Man NPC through his appearances across the game. You can backtrack to his previous locations if you've missed a conversation. Chapter 1 – Bamboo Grove Travel to Bamboo Grove → Snake Trail. Head up the stairs and look to the right to find the Old Man. Speak with him to receive the Blessed Gourd. Chapter 2 – Crouching Tiger Temple Travel to Crouching Tiger Temple → Cellar. Head down the sandy slope while keeping to the right. Continue until you reach a small area filled with statues to find the Old Man. Speak with him and exhaust his dialogue. Chapter 3 – Warding Temple You'll encounter the Old Man during the main story at the Warding Temple in the Pagoda Realm. He'll give you the Ring of Fire spell as part of the story. Chapter 4 – Temple of the Yellow Flower Travel to Temple of the Yellow Flower → Temple Entrance. Head up the stairs into the temple and make your way toward the wooden building on the right. Enter the backyard, continue up the stairs, and go through the door on the left to find the Old Man. Speak with him and exhaust his dialogue. Chapter 5 – Rakshasa Palace Before doing this final step, make sure your starting gourd has already been upgraded to 9 sips. Travel to Furnace Valley → Rakshasa Palace. Take the left path from the shrine and climb the sets of stairs. When you reach the split ahead, jump down toward the lava rather than following either path. Continue to the nearby temple to find the Old Man once again. Speak with him, then interact with the fire to perform the final upgrade and bring your gourd to 10 sips. Once the gourd is fully upgraded and you've completed the Old Man's encounters, Always Accompanied will unlock.

Tip

Start upgrading your original gourd early instead of leaving everything until Chapter 5. You'll get more healing throughout the game and avoid reaching the Old Man at the finish line with a gourd that's still several upgrades short. After following him across five chapters, the least you can do is show up prepared.

Tonics are well and good, but not to be wolfed like food!

Type: Bronze

Unlock Details

Craft your first medicine. Before you can start brewing tonics like a mythical pharmacist, you’ll need to unlock medicine crafting through Xu Dog’s questline in Chapter 2. Travel to Sandgate Village → Village Entrance. From the shrine, head left, drop down, and follow the path until you encounter the large frog boss Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw. Defeat Lang-Li-Guhh-Baw and then speak with Xu Dog near the boss area. Complete Xu Dog’s request involving the formula obtained from the nearby frog encounter and return the formula to him. Once medicine crafting has been unlocked, visit any shrine and select Make Medicines. Craft any medicine using ingredients you’ve gathered from plants throughout the world. The trophy will unlock as soon as you craft your first medicine.

Tip

Get into the habit of collecting plants while exploring. Their ingredients are useful for medicine crafting, and you’ll already be gathering plenty of greenery for other trophy requirements. The Destined One apparently has time to save the world and maintain a respectable herb collection.

Complete Pale-Axe Stalwart’s questline to reach Chapter 5’s secret area, then defeat the Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast. Follow these steps: Meet Pale-Axe Stalwart Travel to Woods of Ember → Ashen Pass I and follow the left path until you encounter Pale-Axe Stalwart. Defeat him, then speak with him and exhaust all of his dialogue to begin the questline. Defeat the Crimson-Silver Cart Continue progressing through Chapter 5 until you defeat the Crimson-Silver Cart. Afterward, return to Pale-Axe Stalwart at Ashen Pass and speak with him again. Make sure you exhaust his dialogue before continuing. Find the Stuck Cart Travel to Furnace Valley → Valley Entrance and continue straight ahead. At the end of the path, head right into the lava to find a stuck cart. Pull the string attached to the cart and continue interacting with it until you've exhausted all available dialogue. Return Toward Fallen Furnace Crater Continue through Chapter 5 until you reach Fallen Furnace Crater. Return along the path where the giant spiked ball previously chased you. A new optional route will now be accessible about halfway along this path. Follow the new route and defeat the final cart boss at the end. Speak with Pale-Axe Stalwart again afterward. Enter the Secret Area After completing the previous encounters, you'll be able to continue through the cave beyond the ice wall and enter Chapter 5’s secret area. Explore this area thoroughly rather than rushing directly toward its final boss. It contains valuable resources that will be important for your Platinum cleanup and New Game+. Defeat Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast Continue through the secret area until you encounter the Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast. Defeat it to complete the secret area and unlock Frost and Flame.

Tip

Don't treat this secret area as just another boss run. Grab everything you can while you're here. Future You already has an entire New Game+ to worry about — no reason to give that poor monkey extra chores.

Warning

Thoroughly explore Chapter 5’s secret area before moving on. Some of its valuable crafting resources are important for later trophy requirements, and missing them can create additional work in New Game+.

Harvest crops from Chen Loong in Zodiac Village. You’ll first need to complete the steps that unlock the village and Chen Loong’s farming system. In Chapter 3, travel to North Shore of the Bitter Lake and follow the coastline to the left until you find Chen Loong standing in the water. Defeat him in battle to begin his quest. After the fight, travel back to Chapter 2 and find Xu Dog in the Cellar beneath the Tiger Temple. Speak with him to receive the medicine Chen Loong needs, then return to Chen Loong and hand it over. He’ll take you to Zodiac Village, which becomes a useful hub for several NPCs. Once you’ve collected some seeds while exploring, give them to Chen Loong in Zodiac Village. He’ll plant them for you, but they need time to grow, so continue playing and return later. Harvest the finished crops and the trophy will unlock.

Tip

Keep grabbing plants as you explore. Seeds are also needed for Seeds to Sow, so becoming Wukong’s resident gardener now will save you some running around later.

Tip

You can also challenge Yin Tiger to a fight while you’re here. Defeating him rewards you with his transformation, which is required for Fickle Forms. He can be a tough opponent when you first arrive, so don’t worry if he turns you into monkey paste — you can come back later with stronger equipment.

Warning

Be mindful of spending valuable crafting materials on armor upgrades. You’ll eventually need to craft every armor piece for Mantled with Might, so saving rarer resources can reduce the amount of cleanup needed later.

Complete the Drunken Boar side quest and defeat Fuban in Chapter 2’s secret area. This quest takes you through several parts of Chapter 2, so follow these steps: Find the Drunken Boar Travel to Fright Cliff → Rockrest Flat. From the shrine, head straight across the area to find the Drunken Boar and speak with him. He needs something to sober him up, which sends you looking for a Sobering Stone. Get the Sobering Stone Travel to Yellow Wind Formation → Windrest Bridge. Cross the bridge and turn left. Near the end of the path, turn right and look for a small house you can enter. Break the jar inside to obtain the Sobering Stone. Return to the Drunken Boar at Rockrest Flat, give him the stone, and exhaust his dialogue. He’ll then move to the Tiger Temple. Meet Him at the Tiger Temple Travel to the Tiger Temple entrance and head up the stairs. Take the second right to find the Drunken Boar again. Speak with him and he’ll ask for a Jade Lotus. You can purchase one from a Keeper’s Shrine if you don't already have one. Get the Arhat Gold Piece You’ll need to defeat the First Prince of the Flowing Sands near the Valley of Despair Shrine. Enter the cave, take a left after the first passage, and drop down into the large open area. Defeat the First Prince of the Flowing Sands to obtain the Arhat Gold Piece. Return to Rockrest Flat Travel back to Rockrest Flat and return to where you originally encountered the Drunken Boar. You’ll now face the Yellow-Robed Squire. Defeat him and he’ll lead you into Chapter 2’s secret area. Defeat Fuban Continue through the secret area until you encounter Fuban. Defeat the boss to complete the quest and unlock Shifting Sands. You’ll also obtain the Wind Tamer vessel from this secret area, which is extremely useful against Yellow Wind Sage, the final boss of Chapter 2.

Tip

Complete this quest before fighting Yellow Wind Sage. Wind Tamer makes that battle considerably easier, so your reward for helping a drunk boar across half the chapter is, surprisingly, completely worth it.

Defeat Elder Jinchi, the secret boss found in Chapter 1’s Ancient Guanyin Temple. To reach him, you must find and ring three bells hidden throughout the chapter. Each bell is located behind a boss encounter. Before ringing all three bells, make sure you defeat the Wandering Wight. He can be found near the route toward the first bell and will disappear after you enter the secret area. His Spirit is also extremely useful, so this is one giant blue-headed headache worth dealing with early. The three bells are: Bell 1 – Forest of Wolves → Outside the Forest From the shrine, head to the right, cross the wooden bridge, and follow the torch-lit path until you reach Guangzhi. Defeat Guangzhi, then ring the bell in his arena. You’ll also receive the Red Tides transformation for defeating him, which is a useful ability to have for upcoming fights. Bell 2 – Bamboo Grove → Snake Trail From the shrine, head up the stairs and continue along the path until you reach the bamboo field. Move forward and toward the right to find a narrow passage leading to Guangmou. Defeat Guangmou, then climb the stairs nearby and ring the second bell. Bell 3 – Bamboo Grove → Marsh of White Mist Progress through the area until you encounter the Whiteclad Noble and defeat him. After the fight, continue through the small passage on the left before entering the wooden building. Follow this path to reach the third and final bell. Once all three bells have been rung, you’ll be transported to the Ancient Guanyin Temple. Here you’ll face Elder Jinchi, a boss similar to the Wandering Wight. Defeat Elder Jinchi to unlock the trophy and receive the Fireproof Mantle vessel. The Fireproof Mantle is especially useful against Black Bear Guai at the end of Chapter 1, so this secret detour is absolutely worth making.

Tip

Don't skip the Fireproof Mantle after defeating Elder Jinchi. You'll be heading toward a boss with a suspicious enthusiasm for setting things on fire, and having some Burn Resistance is about to sound like a very good idea.

Warning

Defeat the Wandering Wight before ringing all three bells and entering the Ancient Guanyin Temple. He will disappear afterward, causing you to miss his Spirit during this playthrough.

Defeat Duskveil, the final boss of Chapter 4’s secret area, Purple Cloud Mountain. Reaching him requires defeating Venom Daoist twice, but there are also several important missables you should handle before fighting Duskveil. First, you need to unlock Purple Cloud Mountain: First Venom Daoist Fight – Pool of Shattered Jade Travel to the Pool of Shattered Jade shrine, head right, and follow the tunnel until you reach a large hanging cocoon. Attack it to begin the first Venom Daoist fight. During this fight, attack Venom Daoist from behind and break all four of his arms before defeating him. Doing this rewards you with the Venomous Armguard, which is required for Mantled with Might. Immobilize can help keep him still while you concentrate your attacks on his back. Second Venom Daoist Fight – Temple of Yellow Flowers From the Court of Illumination shrine, head back down the stairs past the two guards and continue straight ahead. Climb the sets of stairs until you reach a fork at the top, then take the left path down the steep slope and into the cave. Defeat Venom Daoist for the second time. After the fight, interact with the wall shown during the cutscene to open the entrance to Purple Cloud Mountain. Once inside Purple Cloud Mountain, follow the mostly linear path. You'll eventually encounter a snake hanging from a tree. Speak with her to begin the Daoist Mi questline. Before fighting Duskveil, complete these two objectives: Defeat the Scorpionlord From the Valley of Blooms shrine, cross the bridge and turn right. Continue until you reach the Bounds of Deity’s Abode shrine, then climb the stairs to find the Scorpionlord sitting on top of a hut. Destroy the jars nearby to make him considerably less relaxed about your presence and trigger the fight. Defeat the Scorpionlord to obtain the Stained Jade Gourd and Deathstinger Soak, both of which are needed for Brewer’s Bounty. Complete Daoist Mi’s Quest Continue through Purple Cloud Mountain until you reach the Petalfall Hamlet shrine. Follow the path, cross the bridge into the small village, and speak with Daoist Mi. Exhaust his dialogue and he’ll ask you to find the Violet Hail. This item is a random drop from the yellow-robed enemies around the village. Defeat them until it drops; if necessary, rest at the shrine to respawn the enemies and continue farming. Return the Violet Hail to Daoist Mi to begin a two-phase fight. Antimiasma can help against his poison attacks. Defeat Daoist Mi to obtain the Violet Hail spell, which is required for Fickle Forms. Completing his quest also ensures his Journal entry is available for Portraits Perfected. Defeat Duskveil Once the Scorpionlord and Daoist Mi objectives are complete, proceed to Cloudnest Peak and fight Duskveil. Defeat Duskveil to unlock the trophy. You'll also obtain the Weaver’s Needle vessel from this secret area, which is extremely useful against Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master, the final boss of Chapter 4. Warning: There are several important missables here. Break all four of Venom Daoist’s arms during his first encounter to obtain the Venomous Armguard, and complete both the Scorpionlord fight and Daoist Mi’s quest before defeating Duskveil. Leaving these objectives until after Duskveil can lock you out of items or Journal progress needed for other trophies during this playthrough.

Tip

Do all of the Purple Cloud Mountain cleanup before heading for Duskveil. It’s tempting to see a giant boss arena and immediately think, “Well, obviously I’m going in there,” but this is one of those rare occasions where ignoring your gamer instincts is the better move.

Defeat all four Loong bosses found across Chapters 1–4. Before you can access any of them, you'll need to obtain the Loong Scales key item in Chapter 2. Obtain the Loong Scales Travel to Chapter 2 → Sandgate Village → Valley of Despair and enter the cave where you fought the First Prince of the Flowing Sands. Drop down into the boss area, turn around, and look for the decorated wall. This wall can be destroyed. If the First Prince didn't break it during the fight, use a powerful Spirit attack such as Wandering Wight to smash through it. Enter the hidden area behind the wall and open the chest to obtain the Loong Scales. With the scales in your possession, you can now hunt down all four Loongs. You'll know you're getting close when you hear the mysterious voice beginning with, “For what deed...” Red Loong – Chapter 1 Travel to Forest of Wolves → Outside the Forest. Head left until you reach the waterfall. With the Loong Scales, you can interact with the waterfall and open the hidden path. Continue forward and defeat Red Loong. After the battle, make sure you open the chest before leaving. Black Loong – Chapter 2 Travel to Fright Cliff → Rockrest Flat. Head right and climb the stairs until you reach the large sandfall. Interact with it to reveal the hidden path and continue forward to Black Loong. During the fight, Black Loong can unleash large electrical shockwaves across the ground. Jump onto the nearby rocks to avoid these attacks when necessary. Defeat Black Loong and open the chest afterward. Cyan Loong – Chapter 3 Travel to the Turtle Island shrine. From the shrine, head right toward the tree and drop down into the area below to find Cyan Loong. Defeat him to receive the rewards automatically. Yellow Loong – Chapter 4 Travel to Webbed Hollow → Relief of the Fallen Loong. If you haven't unlocked this shrine yet, start from Webbed Hollow → Cliff of Oblivion. Take the left path and cross over the fallen Buddha's hand. Drop down until you reach a split, then drop from the left side and cross the bridge. Continue until you reach the spider web section. Cloud Step can help you safely get past the enemies and their slash attacks. Follow the path until you reach the Relief of the Fallen Loong shrine and continue forward to encounter Yellow Loong. Defeat Yellow Loong to complete the set and unlock The Sire and Sons.

Tip

You can return for the Loongs after finishing the story, so don't worry if one of them is giving you trouble. Coming back with stronger gear can make these fights much more manageable — especially Yellow Loong, who apparently received the family memo about being the difficult child.

Defeat the final story boss at the end of Chapter 6. The final encounter consists of four phases spread across two forms. Thankfully, there is a checkpoint between the two forms, so losing during the second half doesn't mean repeating the entire battle. This is the final major test of everything you've learned throughout the game. Manage your healing and Mana carefully, don't get greedy with your attacks, and concentrate on learning the boss's patterns rather than trying to force damage whenever you can. Defeat the final boss to complete the main story and unlock A Duel of Destiny.

Tip

There are checkpoints between the two forms, so treat the first half as its own fight. You've made it through six chapters, countless bosses, secret areas, and an alarming number of things trying to flatten one monkey. Finish the job.

Defeat Yellow Wind Sage, the final boss of Chapter 2. He can be a noticeable difficulty spike, especially once tornadoes start joining the fight like he needed the extra help. Before fighting him, it’s highly recommended that you complete Chapter 2’s secret area and obtain the Wind Tamer vessel. See Shifting Sands for the full requirements. Wind Tamer is extremely useful here because it can stun Yellow Wind Sage and shut down some of his more troublesome attacks. For preparation, consider investing Sparks into Immobilize, Smash Stance for additional Focus Points, your preferred Staff Stance skills, and the Survival tree for additional Health and Mana. The Wandering Wight Spirit remains a strong option and can be upgraded at a shrine for additional Defense. You should also have access to A Pluck of Many by reaching the Cellar Shrine near the boss area. Investing Sparks into this spell can make it considerably stronger and will remain useful in later fights. During the fight, watch for a few important attack patterns. Yellow Wind Sage can perform three spear swings followed by a ground slam; dodge the sequence and use the recovery after the slam to deal damage. If he jumps backward while swinging his spear, give him some room and concentrate on timing your dodge. He can also follow a ground smash with a jump and quick kick, so don't assume the first attack means the combo is finished. Once you've removed roughly 30% of his health, he'll disappear and unleash a ghostly attack. This is an excellent opportunity to activate Wind Tamer. The vessel will briefly stun him, giving you a large opening to unload your strongest attacks. If you've saved Focus Points, land a heavy attack during the stun and follow with A Pluck of Many and your light combos. Immobilize him once he begins fighting back to create another safe damage window. Red Tides is another useful option once he's active again. Use the transformation to continue applying pressure and potentially inflict Burn while keeping your own health out of immediate danger. Later in the fight, tornadoes make the arena considerably more chaotic. If Wind Tamer has recharged, activate it again to stun Yellow Wind Sage and suppress some of his more annoying attacks. Otherwise, stay patient, dodge through his attack sequences, and punish the openings rather than chasing him around the arena.

Tip

Wind Tamer is the star of this fight. Complete the Chapter 2 secret area before taking on Yellow Wind Sage and save the vessel for when his more troublesome abilities begin. Turns out bringing an anti-wind device to fight the Yellow Wind Sage is a pretty solid strategy. Defeat Yellow Wind Sage and the trophy will unlock automatically, completing Chapter 2.

Defeat Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master, the final boss of Chapter 4. He is found to the right of the Court of Illumination shrine and has a large health pool, making this fight as much about endurance as damage. Before fighting him, you should obtain the Weaver’s Needle vessel from Chapter 4’s secret area. See The Cockerel Crowed for the steps required to get it. The vessel can cancel Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master’s special phase and makes the fight considerably easier. For extra preparation, the Xiang River Goddess Gourd provides 8 sips and can be paired with the Dry Spirit drink for strong healing. Evil Repelling Medicament, Amplification Pellets, and Tiger Subduing Pellets can also provide useful buffs before the fight. During your first attempt, the sisters will fight alongside you, giving you additional help. Take advantage of this opportunity and deal as much damage as possible while you have the extra support. Start the fight with A Pluck of Many, then use Immobilize to hold the boss in place. Follow with light combos, heavy attacks, your Spirit ability, and Red Tides to quickly cut into his large health pool. Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master mixes quick attacks with delayed strikes, so watch his movements instead of falling into a fixed dodge rhythm. His hitbox can also be frustrating, particularly when attacking him directly from the front. Try dodging toward his side before attacking, which can make your hits more reliable and reduce the chance of watching a beautifully charged heavy attack swing at absolutely nothing. Eventually, Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master will enter his special phase. As soon as this happens, activate Weaver’s Needle. It will cancel the phase and temporarily stun him, giving you a valuable opportunity to attack. If you have enough Mana remaining, use A Pluck of Many during or immediately after the stun and pile on as much damage as possible. Once he recovers, the battle returns to a more manageable version of his normal moveset. He can also unleash a barrage of electrical projectiles. Use Staff Spin to deflect them, but watch your Stamina carefully. If you're running low, stop spinning and prepare to dodge the remaining projectiles instead.

Tip

Weaver’s Needle is the key to making this fight much more manageable. Complete Chapter 4’s secret area and obtain it before challenging Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master. He brought a hundred eyes to the fight, so bringing one extremely useful needle seems fair. Defeat Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master to unlock the trophy and complete Chapter 4.

Defeat Black Bear Guai, the final boss of Chapter 1. This trophy unlocks automatically after the fight. Black Bear Guai is your first major test, but you’re still early enough in the game that your build options are limited. A few upgrades and the right equipment can make the fight much more manageable. The Fireproof Mantle vessel is particularly useful because of its increased Burn Resistance. The Red Tides transformation and Wandering Wight spirit can also provide some extra damage if you obtained them earlier. For skills, useful options include Simian Agility and Deft Evasion under Foundation → Stamina, Robust Constitution and Rampant Vigor under Foundation → Survival, and upgrades to Crash and Stagnation for Immobilize. During the first phase, Immobilize Black Bear Guai when you have a good opening and follow with light attacks and your Spirit ability. If he jumps backward and creates some distance, be ready for a powerful leaping slam. He can occasionally follow the first slam with another, so don't immediately rush back in assuming it's your turn. Once his health drops below half, he'll begin adding fire to many of his attacks. This is a good time to activate the Fireproof Mantle. He can also transform into a fireball and repeatedly charge across the arena. Watch for the flashing spark that signals this attack, keep moving sideways, and dodge as he approaches. Once he returns to his normal form, continue using Immobilize and Red Tides whenever they're available and punish his openings rather than getting greedy.

Tip

Save the Fireproof Mantle for the second half of the fight, when Burn becomes a bigger problem. Immobilize is also great for creating safe damage windows — because sometimes the best boss strategy is simply telling the boss to stop moving for a second. Once Black Bear Guai falls, Chapter 1 is complete and the trophy is yours. One chapter down. Plenty of angry mythical creatures still waiting for their turn.

Apply a soak to your drink for the first time. You’ll gain access to this mechanic after meeting Shen Monkey in Chapter 1. While progressing through the Bamboo Grove at the Marsh of White Mist, you’ll encounter Shen Monkey and receive your first soak, the Gall Gem. Once you have it, visit any shrine and select Brew, then equip the Gall Gem in your drink. If you’ve already completed Chen Loong’s quest and Shen Monkey has moved to Zodiac Village, you can also manage your brew through him there. As soon as you equip your first soak, the trophy will unlock.

Tip

Soaks aren’t just trophy fodder. Each provides a different effect, so experiment with them as you collect more. The right drink setup can give you a useful little edge when a boss decides your health bar has been looking far too healthy.

Defeat Yaksha King, the final boss of Chapter 5. You'll face him as part of the main story, so this trophy cannot be missed. Fire and Burn are major threats during this fight. If you catch fire, repeatedly roll to remove the Burn effect before it eats through too much of your health. The Fireproof Mantle vessel is particularly useful here because it can protect you from Burn. If you haven't obtained it yet, see Temple of Taint for the steps required to unlock it in Chapter 1. Stay patient, manage the Burn effect, and defeat Yaksha King to unlock the trophy and complete Chapter 5.

Tip

Fireproof Mantle is worth equipping if Burn is giving you trouble. Otherwise, remember the ancient technique passed down through generations of gamers: if you're on fire, roll around until you're not.

Collect Wukong’s complete armor set and staff in Chapter 6. Chapter 6 is much more open than the previous chapters. After defeating Supreme Inspector and obtaining the Somersault Cloud, you're free to fly around the region and tackle the major bosses in whichever order you prefer. Before you can obtain Wukong’s staff, you'll need to defeat Gold Armored Rhino, Cloudtreading Deer, Feng-Tail General, and Emerald-Armed Mantis to collect the complete armor set. Gold Armored Rhino Use the Somersault Cloud to locate and challenge Gold Armored Rhino. The Rhino uses electrical attacks, so Shock-Quelling Powder can help increase your resistance. Its horn is the main target during the fight. Build 3 Focus Points and land a fully charged heavy attack on the horn whenever you have a good opening. Breaking it will temporarily stun and weaken the Rhino, giving you an opportunity to deal additional damage. A Pluck of Many, Wandering Wight, and either the Plantain Fan or Weaver’s Needle are useful options for adding more damage. Defeat Gold Armored Rhino to receive one piece of Wukong’s armor. Cloudtreading Deer Cloudtreading Deer is a two-phase fight, so bring plenty of healing. Having the Supreme Gourd upgraded to 10 sips can make the encounter considerably more manageable. Body-Warming Powder can help against Chill during the fight, while Antimiasma Powder is useful against the Poison effects introduced during the second phase. The Double-Combed Rooster Blood soak can also remove Poison while increasing your Critical Hit Chance. Plantain Fan, Red Tides, Immobilize, and A Pluck of Many are all useful choices. When the Deer summons tornadoes at around 70% health, it temporarily becomes immune to damage. Don't waste A Pluck of Many during this section. Wait until you can damage it again before calling in the monkey army. Defeat Cloudtreading Deer to receive another piece of Wukong’s armor. Feng-Tail General Feng-Tail General is less of a traditional boss fight and more of a special encounter with the enormous cricket-like creature jumping around Chapter 6. Use the Somersault Cloud to land on its head and move near the antennae. When the prompt appears, hold on. You'll need to survive three consecutive jumps, which consumes a large amount of Stamina. Make sure you have plenty available before beginning. Ascension Powder can make this easier by allowing you to perform actions without consuming Stamina. After the third jump, grab the antennae again. This time, your health will begin draining from the Burn effect. Equip the Fireproof Mantle to greatly increase your Burn resistance. If necessary, you can also respec and invest more heavily into Health before attempting the encounter. Complete the sequence to receive another piece of Wukong’s armor. Emerald-Armed Mantis After completing the previous encounters, travel toward the Mantis-Catching Swamp shrine on the far-left side of the region. Speak with Zhu Bajie and watch the cutscene to begin the Emerald-Armed Mantis encounter. Zhu Bajie will only appear here once you've completed the required previous bosses. This is a fast two-phase battle where dodging is particularly important. One useful setup is the complete Gilded Radiance Armor set paired with the Crow Diviner Spirit. The armor can restore a small amount of Qi from Critical Hits, allowing you to recharge Crow Diviner more quickly and repeatedly create opportunities to freeze the Mantis. You can increase your Critical Hit Chance with medicine to make this strategy more effective. Body-Warming Powder can also help prevent you from being frozen yourself. A Pluck of Many combined with Immobilize can create additional damage openings, while Umbral Abyss can provide another way to pressure and potentially freeze the boss. Defeat Emerald-Armed Mantis to complete Wukong’s armor set. Obtain Wukong’s Staff Once you've defeated all four bosses and collected the complete mythical armor set, head to Water Curtain Cave. Equip the complete mythical armor set and continue inside to trigger the required sequence and obtain Wukong’s staff. Once the staff joins the rest of Wukong’s gear, Guardian of Gear will unlock.

Tip

Chapter 6 gives you the freedom to tackle these encounters in different orders, so don't feel obligated to repeatedly throw yourself at one that's giving you trouble. Grab another armor piece, improve your setup, and come back. You have a flying cloud now — might as well enjoy the commute.

Defeat Yellowbrow, the final boss of Chapter 3. This is a multi-phase encounter, but thankfully there are checkpoints between phases, so you won't have to repeat the entire marathon if things go wrong. Yellowbrow relies heavily on lightning attacks and can inflict Shock, making Shock-Quelling Powder particularly useful. Evil Repelling Medicament can provide additional Damage Reduction, while Tiger Subduing Pellets or Enhanced Tiger Subduing Pellets can increase your damage output. For equipment, the Ochre Armor set can help your Duplicates survive longer, making A Pluck of Many more effective. The Kang-Jin Staff is also a strong weapon option at this point. Useful Curios include the Agate Jar for additional Defense and Cat Eye Beads for increased Critical Hit Chance. During the fight, patience is important because Yellowbrow has several delayed attacks designed to catch early dodges. One to watch for is when he raises his weapon overhead and charges it with electricity before bringing it down. Wait for the actual swing rather than immediately dodging when you see the wind-up. Yellowbrow can also begin charging a powerful area attack. You can either create as much distance as possible or interrupt him with a fully charged Thrust Stance heavy attack. If you want to interrupt him, make sure you already have Focus Points available because you won't have enough time to build them from nothing. If Yellowbrow traps you inside a ring of electricity, use Staff Spin to deflect the incoming projectiles. When you're ready to escape, jump over the electrical ring rather than trying to dodge through it. The trickiest mechanic comes when Yellowbrow transforms his body into gold and becomes immune to normal damage. Don't waste your entire arsenal hitting a shiny brick wall. Watch for an opening after one of his attacks and hit him with a fully charged heavy attack. This can break him out of the transformation early. Once you've broken the golden form, it's a good opportunity to use A Pluck of Many so your Duplicates can actually deal damage instead of surrounding him for moral support.

Tip

Shock-Quelling Powder is especially useful here because Yellowbrow's electrical attacks can inflict Shock. Keep some ready rather than discovering halfway through the fight that your medicine cabinet contains everything except the one thing you actually need. Stay patient with his delayed attacks, take advantage of the checkpoints between phases, and defeat Yellowbrow to unlock the trophy and complete Chapter 3.
