Trophy: Help Wanted

Summoned an Acolyte from a Benevolent Grave 10 times.

Type: Bronze

Category: Online

Unlock Details

Summon an Acolyte from a Benevolent Grave 10 times. During missions, look for blue Benevolent Graves and interact with them using Ochoko Cups to summon an AI-controlled helper. Do this 10 times total and the trophy will unlock.

Tip

You do not need the Acolyte to survive the entire mission or perform anything special. Just summon 10 of them over time. Apparently Nioh 2 keeps careful records of exactly how often you admit, “Yeah, I could use some backup.”

Help Wanted PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Teamwork

Completed 10 missions with NPCs or as Expeditions with other users. (Does not include Acolytes.)

Type: Bronze

Category: Online

Unlock Details

Complete 10 missions either alongside NPC companions or through Expeditions with other players. Some missions include NPCs who automatically accompany you, and those completions count toward the trophy. Because of that, you can earn Teamwork entirely offline while working through the side missions. If you do want to play with other people, go to Starting Point > Torii Gate > Expeditions and create or join a room. Expeditions support up to two other players and each completed mission counts toward the total.

Warning

Acolytes summoned from blue Benevolent Graves do not count for this trophy. They are helpful, but apparently the trophy has very specific standards for what qualifies as teamwork.

Trophy: Core Score

Obtained your first Soul Core.

Type: Bronze

Category: Collectible

Unlock Details

Obtain your first Soul Core. Soul Cores can randomly drop from Yokai after you defeat them. Pick up your first one and the trophy will unlock immediately. You will collect plenty while playing normally, so there is no need to farm this early. Nioh 2 will introduce you to the Soul Core system whether you are ready for another layer of mechanics or not.

Trophy: Friend of Guardians

Collected all Guardian Spirits.

Type: Bronze

Category: Collectible

Unlock Details

Collect all 25 Guardian Spirits required by the base game. Every required Guardian Spirit is earned as a mission reward, so this should unlock naturally while completing all missions for Samurai of Legend. The required Guardian Spirits are: Makami Ame-no-Mitori Kagewani Masaru Shirohami Rokugezo Okuri-Inu Usura-Hicho Yaonami-Hime Shin-Roku Hiyokucho Hyobishin Itokuri Nine Tails Atlas Bear Genbu Yatagarasu Inosasao Tengen Kujaku Nekomata Hakutaku Isanagami Yumehami Saoirse Gyokuto You do not need to hunt these down as random drops or complete any special collection puzzle. Keep clearing the required missions and the full set will come together on its own.

Tip

Focus on Samurai of Legend first. By the time you have completed every required mission, you should also have all 25 Guardian Spirits.

Warning

Patch 1.09 added a 26th Guardian Spirit called Mizuchi. Mizuchi is not required for this trophy, so do not panic if your collection screen suddenly looks like the game moved the goalposts.

Friend of Guardians PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Friend to the Kodama

Obtained a Kodama's Soul Core.

Type: Bronze

Category: Collectible

Unlock Details

Obtain a Kodama Soul Core. Kodama Soul Cores are obtained by trading with Sudama, the small purple spirits with skulls on their heads. When you find a Sudama, open your inventory and drop a Soul Core in front of it. There is a chance the Sudama will give you a Kodama Soul Core in return. If you need an easy Sudama location, the side mission “The Search” in the Awakening region contains several of them.

Tip

Save spare Soul Cores you do not care about and use those for Sudama trades. No reason to hand over something useful just to gamble with a tiny purple merchant who may or may not cooperate.

Friend to the Kodama PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Kodama Leader

Collected all Kodama.

Type: Silver

Category: Collectible

Unlock Details

Collect all 150 Kodama. Kodama are the little green spirits hidden throughout missions. There are 25 Kodama in each region except Afterglow, for a total of 150. Finding them is useful beyond the trophy. You begin each region with 3 Elixirs, and every 5 Kodama found increases that starting amount by 1. Their Blessings also become stronger as you collect more Kodama of the corresponding type. If you have an accessory with Kodama Sensor, equip it. It makes Kodama appear on your map and can save you a ridiculous amount of wandering around while insisting, “I swear I checked this corner already.” The Kodama are spread across these missions: Awakening Region The Village of Cursed Blossoms — 7 The Forest Veiled in Darkness — 2 The Beast Born of Smoke and Flames — 7 Dark Omens — 3 The Viper’s Sanctum — 6 Soaring Region The Hidden Monsters of Okehazama — 7 The Mysterious One Night Castle — 7 A Hot-blooded Howl — 5 The Hollow Fortress — 6 Shadow Region A Way Out — 7 Corpses and Ice — 8 Bird in a Cage — 7 The Golden Nation — 3 Dawn Region Pervading Waters — 9 The Frenzied Blaze — 8 The Sun Sets on Mount Tenno — 8 Twilight Region Ruin Draws Near — 7 The Two Faces of Hospitality — 7 The High-spirited Demon — 6 Stray Cats — 5 Dream Region The Mausoleum of Evil — 9 The Golden Castle — 8 Cherry Blossom Viewing in Daigo — 8

Tip

Use Kodama Sensor whenever possible. It turns this from “search every inch of the level like a paranoid detective” into a much cleaner cleanup job.

Warning

Afterglow has no Kodama, so once the first six regions show 25 each, you are done.

Kodama Leader PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Let There Be Light

Dispelled every instance of the Dark Realm in the main missions.

Type: Silver

Category: Collectible

Unlock Details

Dispel every Dark Realm found in the main missions. Dark Realms are corrupted Yokai areas that slow your Ki recovery. To clear one, find and defeat the Yokai acting as the host. The host is surrounded by red flowers on the ground, which makes it easier to identify. Once the host is defeated, the Dark Realm is permanently dispelled and the Yokai tied to it will stop respawning. You can check your progress from the Country Map by selecting a mission with Cross and pressing R1 to see how many Dark Realms you have cleared. Only main missions count. Dark Realms in side missions can be completely ignored for this trophy. Required Dark Realms: Awakening Region The Village of Cursed Blossoms — 1 The Beast Born of Smoke and Flames — 2 The Viper's Sanctum — 3 Soaring Region The Hidden Monsters of Okehazama — 2 The Mysterious One Night Castle — 3 The Hollow Fortress — 2 Shadow Region A Way Out — 3 Corpses and Ice — 3 Bird in a Cage — 3 Dawn Region Pervading Waters — 2 The Frenzied Blaze — 3 The Sun Sets on Mount Tenno — 3 Twilight Region Ruin Draws Near — 4 The Two Faces of Hospitality — 2 The High-spirited Demon — 3 Dream Region The Mausoleum of Evil — 2 The Golden Castle — 3 Cherry Blossom Viewing in Daigo — 1 Afterglow Region The Blue Eyed Samurai — 0 In the Eye of the Beholder — 3

Tip

Clear Dark Realms as you encounter them during your first run through each mission. Besides helping with the trophy, permanently removing the enemies tied to the area makes the rest of the mission much less annoying. If the trophy does not unlock after finishing the story, check the mission counters from the map instead of replaying everything blindly. Nioh 2 already asks enough of your time without turning cleanup into hide-and-seek with evil fog.

Let There Be Light PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Soul Searcher

Obtained all Soul Cores.

Type: Silver

Category: Collectible

Unlock Details

Obtain all 51 Soul Cores. Most Soul Cores can drop from the Yokai you defeat throughout the game, so you will collect a large portion naturally while completing missions. Some enemies are rarer than others, though, and you may need to farm them until their Soul Core finally drops. The required Soul Cores are: Gaki Enki Yoki Gozuki Mezuki Ippon-Datara Infernal Oni-bi Kappa Nurikabe Mujina Enenra Nure-Onna Aberrant Soldier Toxic Slime Yatsu-no-Kami Yamanba One-eyed Oni Karasu Tengu Waira Karakasa Umbrella Lesser Umi-Bozu Skeleton Warrior Kamaitachi Koroka Dweller Rokurokubi Onryoki Mitsume Yazura Biwa Boku-boku Tatarimokke Flying Bolt Namahage Tesso Ubume Onyudo Gyuki Wheelmonk Kasha Ryomen Sukuna Daidara Bocchi Shuten Doji Magatsu Warrior Lady Osakabe Otakemaru Kodama Scampuss Maelstrom Oni-bi Thunderstorm Oni-bi Mortal (Blue) Mortal (Red) Mortal (Purple) Some of the trickier ones deserve special attention: Scampuss These are the small cat-like creatures that can follow you around temporarily. A Scampuss may drop its Soul Core when its escort time ends. Mujina Mujina hide inside chests with three gold symbols on each side instead of the normal two. Use the Whistle gesture to lure one out safely, then copy the gesture it performs. Nurikabe These are the large walls with eyes. Perform a gesture in front of one. Gestures are divided into blue, yellow, and red types. If a nearby red grave mentions that someone was crushed for using a certain gesture type, choose one of the other two. If successful, Nurikabe will disappear and drop loot, with a chance for its Soul Core. Oni-bi You need all three versions: Infernal Oni-bi Maelstrom Oni-bi Thunderstorm Oni-bi A good farming location is the “Abduction” mission in the Dawn region. Oni-bi spawn from the lamps in the area. Once they stop spawning, rest at the Shrine and repeat. Toxic Slime These can be found during “The Viper’s Sanctum,” especially around the poison pool areas. Mortal Soul Cores You need Blue, Red, and Purple Mortal Soul Cores. These can drop from certain non-respawning human enemies during missions or from human bosses. Kodama Soul Core Trade Soul Cores with Sudama until one gives you the Kodama Soul Core.

Tip

If you have collected all Kodama, activate the Yamabushi Blessing at a Shrine for a 5% increase to Soul Core drop rate.

Warning

Do not assume that killing every Yokai once guarantees its Soul Core. Drops are random, so some enemies may need to be farmed repeatedly. Soul Searcher is basically Nioh 2 asking, “How much do you really like loot drops?” and then refusing to accept your first answer.

Trophy: Spa Healer

Bathed in first hot spring.

Type: Bronze

Category: Collectible

Unlock Details

Bathe in any hot spring for the first time. Hot springs are hidden throughout missions and restore your health while giving you a temporary healing buff. Use your first one and the trophy will unlock immediately.

Tip

Hot springs are especially useful before tougher fights, so they are worth using even if you are not actively trophy hunting. Free healing and a buff in Nioh 2? Take the win.

Spa Healer PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Spa Lover

Bathed in every hot spring.

Type: Silver

Category: Collectible

Unlock Details

Bathe in all 27 hot springs. You can check whether a mission contains hot springs, and how many you have already used, by selecting the mission with Cross and then pressing R1. If a side mission reuses the same area as a main mission, you do not need to use the same hot spring again. Progress is tracked across the shared location. The 27 hot springs are found in these missions: Awakening Region The Beast Born of Smoke and Flames — 1 The Viper’s Sanctum — 1 Soaring Region The Hidden Monsters of Okehazama — 1 The Mysterious One Night Castle — 2 The Hollow Fortress — 2 Shadow Region A Way Out — 1 Corpses and Ice — 1 Bird In A Cage — 1 Dawn Region Pervading Waters — 1 Song of the Yokai — 7 The Frenzied Blaze — 1 The Sun Sets On Mount Tenno — 1 Twilight Region Ruin Draws Near — 1 The Two Faces of Hospitality — 1 A Message From the Deceased — 1 The High-spirited Demon — 1 Dream Region The Mausoleum of Evil — 1 The Golden Castle — 1 Cherry Blossom Viewing in Daigo — 1 Using a hot spring also creates an autosave, so you can quit afterward and return near the same location without needing to visit a Shrine first.

Tip

Check the mission information before replaying anything. If the hot spring count is already complete, move on and save yourself another tour through Yokai real estate.

Warning

“Song of the Yokai” contains 7 hot springs by itself, so that mission does a lot of the heavy lifting for this trophy. At that point it is less of a mission and more of an extremely dangerous spa resort.

Trophy: A Weapon's Mind

Listened to the innermost thoughts of a Yokai Weapon.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Listen to the innermost thoughts of a Yokai Weapon. First, find a Yokai Weapon with the Imbue Corruption stat. These weapons are also marked with the Yokai Weapon symbol in your inventory. Your chosen weapon needs to reach 999 Familiarity before this will work. Once it has enough Familiarity, keep using it until the Sentience Gauge in the bottom-right corner fills completely. Each time it fills, the weapon will speak. You need to hear the same weapon speak 5 times. All 9 weapon types have corrupted variants, so use whichever one fits your build instead of forcing yourself into a weapon you hate just for one trophy.

Tip

Unlock Hasten Awakening in the Shiftling skill tree. It speeds up Sentience Gauge buildup and makes the process noticeably quicker.

Warning

A Yokai Weapon at 900 Familiarity or lower will not count because it will not speak to you yet. Get it all the way to 999 first, then let your possessed weapon start oversharing.

A Weapon's Mind PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Axe Master

Acquired mystic art for the axe.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Reach 120,000 proficiency with the Axe, complete the corresponding Axe Dojo mission, then purchase either of its Mystic Arts. Proficiency increases as you deal damage with the weapon, so keep swinging until the game finally agrees that yes, you are very good at hitting things with an enormous piece of metal.

Tip

Accessories with a Proficiency Bonus can shorten the grind, and New Game+ enemies are excellent targets because their larger health pools let you deal more total damage.

Axe Master PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Dual Sword Master

Acquired mystic art for the dual swords.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Acquire one of the two Mystic Arts for the Dual Swords. First, reach 120,000 Dual Sword proficiency. Then complete the corresponding Dual Sword Dojo mission, open Learn Skills, and purchase either of the two Mystic Arts marked with a red circle. You will eventually need Mystic Arts for all 9 weapon types, plus Ninjutsu and Onmyo Magic, for the related trophies. Dual Swords are especially important because their Dojo mission is also required to unlock “Master of the Three Evils” for Samurai of Legend. You can check your current proficiency by opening the Touch Pad menu, selecting Status, and pressing R1 once.

Tip

Accessories with a Proficiency Bonus can speed up the grind. There are three good ways to build weapon proficiency: Daidara Bocchi In “The High-spirited Demon” in the Twilight region, use the Shrine immediately before the boss. Keep attacking Daidara Bocchi’s fingers. When the boss becomes vulnerable, do not use the Triangle finisher on its eyes to advance the fight. You can keep building proficiency, and if you die, the Shrine is practically next door. Onmyo Magic Dojo Mission This is another useful proficiency farming option, although you first need 250,000 Onmyo Magic proficiency to unlock the mission. New Game+ Simply playing through New Game+ works extremely well. Enemies have much more health, your equipment is stronger, and proficiency increases based on the damage you deal. More health bars to carve through means more proficiency. For once, tougher enemies are actually doing you a favor.

Warning

You need 120,000 proficiency with the weapon type before its Mystic Art becomes available. Do not grind weapon Familiarity thinking it counts toward this requirement.

Trophy: Dungball Roller

Became Ryunojo the Dung Lover's best friend and received the Coiled Snake Helmet smithing text.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Become Ryunojo the Dung Lover’s best friend and receive the Coiled Snake Helmet smithing text. You can find Ryunojo during “Bird in a Cage” in the Shadow region. After the second Shrine, look for a nearby cave entrance. Follow the cave to the end and climb the ladder to reach him. You need to give Ryunojo the equivalent of 30 Dungballs. Normal Dungball — counts as 1 Noble Dungball — counts as 2 Tesso enemies can drop Dungballs, and you can also find them as loot from corpses. Because this can become a bit grindy, it is better to leave this until later in your Platinum run. You may naturally collect enough while finishing missions and cleanup.

Tip

Do not rush to farm all 30 immediately. Keep every Dungball and Noble Dungball you find, then check your total near the end of the game.

Trophy: Full-fledged Samurai

Reached level 100.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Reach level 100. Defeating enemies and completing missions rewards Amrita, which can be spent at Shrines to level up. If you are playing through the story normally and completing side missions along the way, you should reach level 100 around the end of the main story without needing a dedicated grind. If you finish the story and are still a few levels short, start completing missions in New Game+. The Amrita rewards increase significantly there, so the remaining levels should come much faster.

Tip

If you are collecting Kodama during the story, activate the Oracle Blessing at a Shrine for a 25% increase to Amrita earned. More Amrita means more levels, and more levels means slightly fewer enemies turning you into decorative floor art.

Trophy: Hatchet Master

Acquired mystic art for the hatchets.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Reach 120,000 proficiency with the Hatchets, complete their corresponding Dojo mission, then purchase either Mystic Art. You can work on this naturally throughout the story or leave most of it until New Game+, where stronger enemies and better gear make proficiency gains much faster.

Tip

Use Proficiency Bonus accessories if available. Hatchets already spend half their lives flying across the room, so they may as well earn extra credit while they're doing it.

Hatchet Master PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Kusarigama Master

Acquired mystic art for the kusarigama.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Reach 120,000 proficiency with the Kusarigama, complete its Dojo mission, then purchase either Mystic Art from the Kusarigama skill tree. If this isn't one of your normal weapons, save the heavier grind until later in the game when stronger equipment makes building proficiency much quicker.

Tip

New Game+ is a great place to finish this. Enemies survive longer, allowing you to rack up much more weapon proficiency before they finally stop moving.

Kusarigama Master PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Ninjutsu Master

Acquired mystic art for Ninjutsu.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Reach 200,000 Ninjutsu proficiency, complete the required Ninjutsu Dojo mission, then purchase one of the Ninjutsu Mystic Arts. Unlike weapon proficiency, you need to actively use Ninjutsu to build this up. If Ninjutsu isn't normally part of your build, start working useful abilities into your regular gameplay rather than leaving the entire grind until the end. Passive buffs and other usable Ninjutsu abilities can contribute toward proficiency, although progress may be slower if you are not running a dedicated Ninjutsu build.

Tip

If your current build isn't suited for Ninjutsu, you can buy a Book of Reincarnation from the Blacksmith and temporarily respec your character to make the grind easier. Ninja training montage optional.

Ninjutsu Master PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Odachi Master

Acquired mystic art for the odachi.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Reach 120,000 proficiency with the Odachi, complete the corresponding Odachi Dojo mission, and purchase either available Mystic Art. You do not need to master the weapon during your first playthrough. Use it naturally when convenient, then finish whatever proficiency remains later.

Tip

Equip accessories with a Proficiency Bonus if you have them. Every little bit helps when you're trying to convince Nioh 2 that swinging a sword roughly the size of a small tree has become second nature.

Odachi Master PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Onmyo Magic Master

Acquired mystic art for Onmyo Magic.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Reach 250,000 Onmyo Magic proficiency, complete the required Onmyo Magic Dojo mission, then purchase one of the Onmyo Mystic Arts. Use Onmyo Magic regularly throughout the game to build proficiency. Even passive effects such as elemental weapon buffs contribute, so working magic into your normal combat can save you from a much larger grind later. If you aren't using a magic-focused build, you can respec with a Book of Reincarnation purchased from the Blacksmith and temporarily invest more heavily in Onmyo Magic.

Tip

Reaching 250,000 Onmyo Magic proficiency also unlocks the advanced Onmyo Magic Dojo mission, which can be used as a good weapon-proficiency farming location for the other Master trophies.

Warning

Weapon Mystic Arts require 120,000 proficiency, Ninjutsu requires 200,000, and Onmyo Magic requires 250,000. Make sure you're checking Proficiency under Status rather than weapon Familiarity in your inventory. They are completely different systems, because apparently one experience bar simply wasn't enough for Nioh 2.

Onmyo Magic Master PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Samurai of Legend

Completed all missions on any difficulty level. (Does not include Twilight, training or additional missions included with updates.)

Type: Gold

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Complete every required main and sub mission across all seven regions on any difficulty. Dojo missions and Twilight Missions normally do not count, and the later “Online” missions added in Patch 1.09 are also not required. You need 100% mission completion in: Awakening Soaring Shadow Dawn Twilight Dream Afterglow Most missions unlock naturally, but a handful have extra requirements that are easy to miss: Master of the Three Evils — Dawn Reach 120,000 proficiency with Dual Swords and complete the Dojo mission “Master of the Dual Blades.” This Dojo mission is the one exception you actually need for this trophy. Aberrant Mage — Dawn During “The Sun Sets on Mount Tenno,” kill 10 Onmyo Mages found in the caverns before the boss. There are fewer than 10 in a single run, so rest at a nearby Shrine to respawn them until you reach the required total. A Prayer in the Moonlight — Twilight During “Scattered Fragments,” find the Benevolent Grave of Yamanaka Shikanosuke near the end of the mission and summon him. He must survive until the mission is completed, so maybe don’t let your new best friend sprint headfirst into every Yokai on the mountain. Restless Spirits — Dream In “The Shiftling’s Wise Judgement” in the Soaring region, side with Shibata Katsuie, the character on the right, and complete the mission. Later, during “Pervading Waters” in Dawn, help him and allow him to accompany you. Afterward, speak with him in the Interim to unlock the mission. Japanese Heart, Yokai Smarts — Dream Replay “The Shiftling’s Wise Judgement,” but this time side with Hachisuka Koroku, the character on the left. Complete the mission, then speak with him in the Interim to unlock this one. Yaksha Returns — Dream Complete “Scented Letter” in the Dream region, then speak with Azai Nagamasa in the Interim to unlock the mission. Once every required mission across all seven regions has been completed, Samurai of Legend will unlock. It’s a big checklist, but thankfully Nioh 2 lets you replay everything, so you’re cleaning up unfinished business instead of permanently regretting one bad decision from 60 hours ago.

Tip

If a mission is giving you trouble, summon Visitors with Ochoko Cups at a Shrine or use Expeditions through Starting Point > Torii Gate. Bringing backup is completely fair. The Yokai certainly aren’t interested in fighting fair.

Warning

Do not waste time completing Twilight Missions or the “Online” missions added in Patch 1.09 specifically for this trophy. They are not required. The Dual Sword Dojo requirement for “Master of the Three Evils,” however, does count as part of the path to unlocking all required missions.

Trophy: Spear Master

Acquired mystic art for the spear.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Reach 120,000 proficiency with the Spear, complete the corresponding Spear Dojo mission, then purchase either Mystic Art from the Spear skill tree. You can check your current weapon proficiency by opening the Touch Pad menu, going to Status, and pressing R1 once.

Tip

If you still need a lot of proficiency after the story, New Game+ is one of the easiest places to build it. Stronger enemies have more health, which means more opportunities to repeatedly introduce them to the pointy end.

Spear Master PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Switchglaive Master

Acquired mystic art for the switchglaive.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Reach 120,000 proficiency with the Switchglaive, complete its Dojo mission, then purchase either available Mystic Art. Proficiency comes from dealing damage with the weapon, so simply keep using the Switchglaive until you meet the requirement.

Tip

New Game+ is excellent for finishing the grind because enemies can absorb far more damage. More damage dealt means more proficiency, which is one of the rare occasions where an enemy refusing to die is actually helpful.

Switchglaive Master PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Sword Master

Acquired mystic art for the sword.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Acquire one of the two Mystic Arts for the Sword. To unlock the Sword Mystic Arts, build your Sword proficiency to 120,000, complete the corresponding Sword Dojo mission, then open Learn Skills and purchase either of the Mystic Arts marked with a red circle. You can check weapon proficiency at any time by opening the Touch Pad menu, going to Status, and pressing R1 once.

Tip

Do not confuse Proficiency with Familiarity. Familiarity belongs to individual weapons, while Proficiency tracks your overall experience with that weapon type. Nioh 2 has enough numbers already without accidentally grinding the wrong one. If you still need a lot of Sword proficiency after finishing the story, New Game+ is a great place to farm it because stronger enemies survive longer and let you deal more total damage.

Sword Master PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Tea Connoisseur

Appraised your tea utensils 50 times.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Have 50 Tea Utensils appraised. Tea Utensils can randomly drop from enemies. Whenever you have one or more, go to Starting Point > Hidden Teahouse > Appraise Tea Utensils and have them identified. You need to appraise 50 total Tea Utensils for the trophy. You can check your progress at Touch Pad > Titles > Title List > Ungyo Title List > Reputable Tea Ceremony Master. Tea Utensils are not just fancy shelf clutter either. You can display them in your Hut for bonuses such as increased Luck, Gold earned, and Tea Utensil drop rate.

Tip

The Isanagami Guardian Spirit increases Tea Utensil drop rate by 10%, which can help speed things up. Do not worry if you are nowhere near 50 by the end of the story. You still have side missions and plenty of New Game+ proficiency grinding ahead of you, so this should continue progressing naturally. Apparently the road to becoming a legendary samurai also involves becoming weirdly serious about tea.

Trophy: The Beginning of a Samurai

Reached level 10.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Reach level 10. You earn Amrita by defeating enemies and completing missions. Spend that Amrita at Shrines to level up. Level 10 comes very early, so this should unlock naturally while you are still getting used to Nioh 2 politely introducing you to death.

Tip

There is no need to grind for this one. Just keep progressing through the opening missions and spending your Amrita at Shrines.

Trophy: Tonfa Master

Acquired mystic art for the tonfa.

Type: Bronze

Category: Grind

Unlock Details

Reach 120,000 proficiency with the Tonfa, complete the Tonfa Dojo mission, then purchase either of its Mystic Arts. Check your progress through Touch Pad > Status and press R1 once. Remember that Proficiency is what matters here, not the Familiarity shown on individual weapons.

Tip

Playing through New Game+ is an easy way to build the remaining proficiency while still making progress elsewhere instead of standing in one place punching the same unfortunate Yokai for hours.

Trophy: Bold Wrangler

Defeated Gozuki in "The Village of Cursed Blossoms".

Type: Bronze

Category: Combat

Unlock Details

Defeat Gozuki during “The Village of Cursed Blossoms.” Gozuki appears very early in the first main mission. You can fight it immediately, but it is much stronger than most enemies around you at that point. If the fight feels ridiculous, skip it and come back later when you are stronger. Defeating Gozuki in this mission at any point will unlock the trophy.

Tip

Saving this for a replay later is completely fine. Coming back overleveled and flattening the enemy that bullied you at the start is one of the more satisfying cleanup moments in the game.

Trophy: Burst Breaker

Used the Brute, Feral, and Phantom Burst Counters five times each to counter a Burst Attack.

Type: Bronze

Category: Combat

Unlock Details

Successfully use each of the three Burst Counter types — Brute, Feral, and Phantom — 5 times each against enemy Burst Attacks. Your Burst Counter type is determined by your equipped Guardian Spirit. You can check whether a spirit is Brute, Feral, or Phantom at a Shrine before equipping it. When an enemy begins a Burst Attack, they will glow red. Press R2 + Circle to perform your Burst Counter, but each type works a little differently: Brute Stay close to the enemy and use the counter as soon as they glow red. Brute is the most straightforward of the three: see red, hit back, ask questions never. Phantom Phantom works more like a parry. Your timing needs to be much tighter, so activate the counter just as the enemy’s attack is about to connect with you. Feral Feral is a forward dash that can also be used defensively. When the enemy glows red, dash into the attack to interrupt it. You need 5 successful counters with each type, for a total of 15.

Tip

A great place to farm this is against Gozuki at the beginning of “The Village of Cursed Blossoms.” He appears almost immediately after the mission starts and gives you an easy target for practicing each Burst Counter style. If you normally stick with one Guardian Spirit type, deliberately swap spirits at a Shrine so you can work through the other two counter styles. Otherwise, this is one of those trophies that can sit unfinished forever while you wonder why it never popped.

Burst Breaker PlayStation trophy artwork

Trophy: Grazer Eraser

Defeated Mezuki and Gozuki in the same mission.

Type: Bronze

Category: Combat

Unlock Details

Defeat Mezuki and Gozuki in the same mission. There are three good opportunities to do this: The Village of Cursed Blossoms Gozuki appears very early in the first main mission. Defeat it, then continue through the mission and defeat Mezuki later. Gozuki is extremely tough this early, so there is no shame in skipping it and coming back when your character is stronger. Nioh 2 puts that thing near the start for one reason: intimidation. Refined Man of the Underworld In this Dawn region side mission, defeat the first two Yokai and Gozuki will spawn. Once Gozuki drops below roughly 25% health, Mezuki will join the fight. Defeat both during the mission to earn the trophy. The Golden Castle This main mission also gives you an opportunity to fight both Mezuki and Gozuki during the same mission.

Tip

Coming back to “The Village of Cursed Blossoms” later is probably the cleanest option if Gozuki bullied you at the beginning of the game. Revenge is an excellent source of motivation.

Trophy: Seven Wonders

Defeated each of the Seven Spears in "Cherry Blossom Viewing in Daigo".

Type: Silver

Category: Combat

Unlock Details

Defeat all 7 of the Seven Spears during “Cherry Blossom Viewing in Daigo” in the Dream region. The Seven Spears are elite warriors loyal to Toyotomi Hideyoshi and act as mini-bosses throughout the mission. They are easy to distinguish from normal enemies, and once defeated they will not respawn. You need to defeat all 7 during the same run through the mission.

Tip

Take your time and clear each section before moving forward. There is a point later in the mission where you can no longer backtrack to the beginning, so rushing ahead can force you to replay the entire mission if you missed one.

Warning

Make sure all 7 are defeated before passing the point where backtracking is no longer possible. Nioh 2 is perfectly happy to let you discover that mistake 20 minutes too late.

Trophy: Yokai Quelling Master

Defeated all types of yokai.

Type: Bronze

Category: Combat

Unlock Details

Defeat every type of Yokai in the game at least once. Most of this will happen naturally while completing all missions for Samurai of Legend. All Large Yokai are bosses, so they are essentially unmissable through normal progression. The Small Yokai appear across multiple missions, but a couple are easier to overlook. You can check your progress at Touch Pad > Titles > Gameplay Records > Small Yokai Defeated. Small Yokai: Gaki Yoki Enki Ippon-Datara Kappa Dweller Nurikabe Oni-bi Skeleton Warrior Yamanba Waira Mitsune Yazura Nure-Onna Toxic Slime Aberrant Soldier Karakasa Umbrella Magatsu Warrior Biwa-Boku Mujina One-Eyed Imp One-Eyed Oni Onryudo Wheelmonk Flying Bolt Karasu Tengu Rokurokubi Red Kappa Snowclops Koroka Ubume Tesso Lesser Umi-bozu Spider Namahage Large Yokai: Mezuki Gozuki Enerna Yatsu-no-Kami Kamaitachi Onyroki Tatarimokke Gyuki Kasha Ryomen Sukuna Daidara Bocchi Shuten Doji Lady Osakabe Kashin Koji Otakemaru The easiest Yokai to miss is the Mujina. Mujina hide inside chests, and their chests have three gold markings on each side instead of two. You can safely lure one out by using the Whistle gesture, then copying the gesture it performs. Very polite. Very civilized. Unfortunately for this trophy, you still need to kill at least one. Nurikabe are the large walls with eyes. To deal with one, perform a gesture in front of it. Gestures are divided into three types: blue for friendly, yellow for neutral, and red for hostile. If there is a nearby red grave, check its cause of death. If it says the player was crushed by Nurikabe for using a friendly, neutral, or hostile gesture, use one of the other two gesture types instead. If you guess correctly, Nurikabe will move aside.

Tip

Do not bother grinding this early. Finish the main story and all required missions first, then check your Gameplay Records to see what is actually missing.

Warning

Mujina and Nurikabe are the two most likely Yokai to cause confusion. Mujina must be killed at least once for this trophy, while Nurikabe requires the correct gesture interaction before it moves aside.

Trophy: Clean Sweep

Destroyed every Amrita shard in "The High-spirited Demon".

Type: Bronze

Category: Misc

Unlock Details

Destroy all 6 giant Amrita crystals during the main mission “The High-spirited Demon” in the Twilight region. The crystals can hurt you when you get close, so don’t just sprint directly into them unless being exploded by decorative rocks is part of the plan. Their locations are: Below the First Shrine Look on the cliff underneath the first Shrine. Left Path Follow the path on the left. The crystal is near a wild Kamaitachi. First Dark Realm One crystal is inside the first Dark Realm and must be destroyed to dispel it. Inside the Building Continue along the path and drop into the building through the hole in the roof. The crystal is inside. Third Dark Realm Another crystal appears in the third Dark Realm and must be destroyed to clear the area. Near the Boss Arena As you approach the boss, dodge the rolling boulders. One of them will smash through a wall and reveal the final crystal. Destroy all 6 during the mission and the trophy will unlock.

Tip

The final crystal is the easiest to miss because the boulder has to break the wall first. Let gravity do the demolition work for you before moving on.

Trophy: Devout Believer

Defeated the boss of "The Viper's Sanctum" without breaking the statue of Shirohami.

Type: Bronze

Category: Misc

Unlock Details

Defeat the boss of “The Viper’s Sanctum” without destroying any of the Shirohami snake statues. Normally, destroying these statues removes poison pools from nearby areas and from the boss arena. For this trophy, leave every statue intact and finish the mission without breaking them. The easiest approach is to save this until later in the game, then replay “The Viper’s Sanctum” when you are significantly stronger. Ignore all of the snake statues and head for the boss. You will have to deal with the poison pools during the fight, but being overleveled makes the entire thing much more manageable.

Tip

Do this during cleanup instead of your first visit. Fighting the boss with all the poison intact while underleveled is technically possible, but so is stepping on a rake on purpose.

Warning

Do not destroy any Shirohami statue during the replay. If one breaks, restart the mission and try again.

Trophy: Feather Buster

Drove back every Tatarimokke along the journey in "A Way Out".

Type: Bronze

Category: Misc

Unlock Details

Drive away both Tatarimokke searchlights during “A Way Out” in the Shadow region. There are 2 searchlight sections in the mission. Near each one, you can find a red orb connected to the Tatarimokke controlling the area. Destroy the red orb in the first searchlight section, then do the same in the second. The trophy unlocks after the second orb is destroyed.

Tip

If a searchlight is making the area miserable, look around nearby for the red orb instead of trying to fight through everything under constant pressure. Smash the source and enjoy the sudden improvement in working conditions.

Trophy: Fuse It or Lose It

Fused any Soul Core until it reached rank 9.

Type: Bronze

Category: Misc

Unlock Details

Fuse a Soul Core until it reaches Rank 9. Go to Shrine > Manage Soul Cores > Soul Fusion. To increase a Soul Core’s rank, fuse it with another copy of the same Soul Core. For example, a Gaki Soul Core can be fused with another Gaki Soul Core. Mortal Soul Cores are more flexible and can be fused with any Soul Core, which makes them useful if you are missing duplicate copies. Most Soul Cores are found around Rank 2, so it should only take a handful of fusions to reach Rank 9.

Tip

Use a common Soul Core like Gaki if you want to get this done quickly. There is no reason to sacrifice rare cores just to watch a number go up.

Trophy: Hidden Hopes

Encountered all the Usura-Hicho in "The Frenzied Blaze".

Type: Bronze

Category: Misc

Unlock Details

Interact with all 3 Usura-Hicho swarms during “The Frenzied Blaze” in the Dawn region. The Usura-Hicho appear as swarms of frozen butterflies. Interacting with one temporarily gives your weapon a Water buff. Their locations are: First Dark Realm The first swarm is inside the first Dark Realm area. After the Second Shrine Continue along the main path after reaching the second Shrine. Do not enter the large building on your left. Keep moving forward and look behind a short wall. The butterflies are guarded by an Onmyo Mage. Final Dark Realm The last swarm is found in the final Dark Realm area, shortly before the Shrine and boss arena. Interact with all three during the mission to unlock the trophy.

Tip

The second swarm is the easiest one to walk past because the large building naturally pulls your attention toward it. Keep going forward instead and check behind the short wall.

Warning

You need to interact with all 3 Usura-Hicho swarms. Simply walking near them is not enough, so make sure you actually trigger each one and receive the temporary Water buff.

Afterward, go to Starting Point > Hut > Remodel Hut > Hanging Scrolls and place your new scroll on display. The trophy will unlock once the scroll is displayed.

Tip

Use a piece of equipment you do not care about as the sacrificed item. No reason to accidentally feed your favorite weapon to the Blacksmith for a Bronze trophy.

Trophy: Peal of Ten Thousand Bells

Rang all the bells in "Ruin Draws Near".

Type: Bronze

Category: Misc

Unlock Details

Ring all 6 large bells during “Ruin Draws Near” in the Twilight region. Use strong attacks with Triangle to hit each bell. Keep striking it until the bell falls to the ground to make sure it counted. Ringing a bell can temporarily dispel a Dark Realm and stun nearby Yokai, so they are useful beyond the trophy. The 6 bells are located here: First Dark Realm The first bell is found inside the first Dark Realm. Second Dark Realm The second bell is inside the second Dark Realm. Basement — First Bell From the second Dark Realm, backtrack and follow the alternate path leading to another building. Head into the basement to find the third bell. Basement — Second Bell The fourth bell is in a room next to the previous one in the same basement area. Near the Third Shrine — Upper Floor The fifth bell is near the third Shrine on the same floor. Near the Third Shrine — Ground Floor The final bell is also near the third Shrine, but down on the ground floor.

Tip

Do not stop after a single hit. Keep attacking each bell until it actually drops to the ground so there is no doubt it registered.

Trophy: Remodeling Novice

Remodeled a piece of equipment.

Type: Bronze

Category: Misc

Unlock Details

Remodel a piece of equipment at the Blacksmith. First, complete “The Roaming Artisan” in the Dream region. This mission unlocks the Remodel option at the Blacksmith after you rescue Muramasa. You will also need a piece of equipment with a + value, such as +1 or +2. These become much more common after completing the story and unlocking Dream of the Strong and Divine Gear. Once you have suitable equipment, go to Country Map > Starting Point > Blacksmith > Remodel and alter the item’s properties so it scales differently. The trophy unlocks as soon as you complete the remodel.

Tip

Wait until after the story to worry about this. + value equipment becomes much easier to find in Dream of the Strong, so there is no reason to hunt for a unicorn during your first playthrough.

Warning

The Remodel menu will not appear until you complete “The Roaming Artisan” in the Dream region. If the option seems to be missing, Nioh 2 is not broken this time — you just have another mission to finish.

Got Gyuki to attack the dam in "Pervading Waters".

Type: Bronze

Category: Misc

Unlock Details

Get Gyuki to attack the dam during “Pervading Waters” in the Dawn region. When the boss fight begins, move over to the dam wall and stand close to it. Wait for Gyuki to charge or attack in your direction. If positioned correctly, Gyuki will slam into the dam instead of just ruining your day. Once the dam is hit, Gyuki will become stuck for a few seconds and the trophy will unlock.

Tip

Do this right at the start of the fight before you get distracted by trying to kill the boss. Stand near the dam and let Gyuki do the demolition work for you.

Type: Bronze

Discover 10 hidden items on the world map. Before starting a mission, move your cursor around the region map. When the cursor turns red, press Cross to reveal and collect a hidden item. There are 35 hidden items across all regions, but you only need to find 10 for the trophy.

Tip

Slowly sweep the cursor across each region instead of moving randomly. Once it turns red, stop and press Cross. This is one of the easier trophies in the game, assuming you are willing to spend a few minutes treating the map like a very suspicious treasure hunt.

Trophy: Sudama Swapper

Exchanged gifts with a Sudama for the first time.

Type: Bronze

Category: Misc

Unlock Details

Exchange an item with a Sudama for the first time. Sudama are the little purple spirits wearing skulls on their heads. They appear at fixed locations in certain missions and will trade with you if you drop an item in front of them. If you need an easy place to find one, go to the Awakening region and start the side mission “The Search.” That mission includes several Sudama as part of its objectives. To trade with one, open your inventory and drop an item on the ground directly in front of it. If the Sudama likes what you gave it, it will hand something back and the trophy will unlock.

Tip

If you drop a Soul Core, there is a chance the Sudama will give you a Kodama Soul Core in return, which is useful for the Friend to the Kodama trophy.

Warning

Sudama are picky little gremlins. If they dislike what you drop, they can respond by blasting you with lightning. Apparently “thanks, but no thanks” was never an option.

Unlock Details

Purchase an item from the Kodama Bazaar. Visit any Shrine and choose Make Offering. Donate a few unwanted items to receive Amrita and Divine Rice. Then open the Kodama Bazaar and buy something using your Divine Rice. The Bazaar will only let you purchase items when you are carrying fewer than its current stock, so if nothing useful is available, use a few consumables or arrows first and then buy them back. That is all you need. Donate junk, receive magical rice, purchase your own supplies back from tiny green creatures. Completely normal economy.

Tip

If the currently available missions look miserable, wait until an easier, lower-level one rotates in. There is absolutely no trophy bonus for choosing suffering on purpose.

Warning

Twilight Missions rotate daily, but you do not need to be online for the rotation to occur. They are also not required for Samurai of Legend.
