Quick Answer

To beat Romanifo's Balloon Challenge in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, ignore the Gestral itself and focus entirely on the balloons. Pop the first balloon beside Romanifo to begin the challenge, then quickly destroy all six spawned balloons using Aimed Shots before your turn ends.

If you fail to pop all six balloons in a single turn, Romanifo will fully recover and you'll need to try again. Completing the challenge rewards the Trigger-Happy Pictos.

Romanifo's Balloon Challenge Guide

Romanifo is a Half-baked Gestral found inside Verso's Drafts. Unlike most encounters in the area, this fight is more of a shooting challenge than a traditional battle.

The objective is not to damage Romanifo directly. Instead, you'll need to destroy a series of balloons before the challenge resets.

Where To Find Romanifo

Travel to the Reverie Path expedition flag in Verso's Drafts.

From the flag, head toward the path leading to the gingerbread door that requires a Birthday Cake. Before reaching the door, turn right near the pool filled with Gestrals.

Romanifo is easy to spot thanks to the large collection of balloons surrounding them.

Before speaking with Romanifo, pop all the nearby balloons. This will annoy the Gestral and unlock the challenge battle.

How The Balloon Challenge Works

Once combat begins, attacking Romanifo directly will not deal meaningful damage.

Instead, focus on the balloon floating beside the Gestral. Shooting this balloon starts the challenge and causes additional balloons to appear around the arena.

Each balloon destroyed deals massive damage to Romanifo.

To win the encounter, you must:

  • Pop the starting balloon.
  • Destroy all six spawned balloons.
  • Complete the sequence during the same turn.

If even one balloon remains, Romanifo will restore all health and the challenge must be repeated.

How To Complete The Challenge

The most important part of the encounter is speed and accuracy.

As soon as the balloons appear, use Aimed Shots to destroy them one after another. Learning the spawn pattern can make the challenge much easier if you're struggling.

Keep your camera movement smooth and avoid rushing your shots. Missing even a single balloon can force a full restart.

Once all six balloons are destroyed, Romanifo will be defeated immediately.

Romanifo Rewards

Defeating Romanifo rewards the Trigger-Happy Pictos.

This Pictos grants the following effect:

After shooting 10 times during the same turn, gain +2 AP once and increase the damage of following shots by 200%.

After the battle, Romanifo steals 1,000 Chroma out of frustration. Fortunately, the rewards from the encounter more than make up for the loss.

Rewards

  • Trigger-Happy Pictos
  • Chroma rewards from the encounter

Tips

  • Ignore Romanifo completely and focus on balloons.
  • Learn the balloon spawn locations if you keep missing one.
  • Stay calm and prioritize accuracy over speed.
  • You must destroy all six balloons during the same turn or the challenge resets.
