Quick Answer

The fastest way to reach Mohgwyn Palace early in Elden Ring is by completing White Mask Varré’s questline after defeating Godrick The Grafted. After invading players three times and soaking the Lord Of Blood’s Favor cloth in maiden blood, Varré rewards you with the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, which teleports you directly to the palace.

This method lets you access one of the best rune farming locations in the game long before reaching the normal late-game entrance.

How To Access Mohgwyn Palace Early

Mohgwyn Palace is one of the most important optional late-game areas in Elden Ring, home to Mohg Lord Of Blood and one of the best rune farming locations in the game.

Normally, the area is reached much later through the Consecrated Snowfield, but you can access it extremely early through White Mask Varré’s questline instead.

Step 1 Defeat Godrick The Grafted

Before Varré’s questline progresses, you must defeat Godrick The Grafted in Stormveil Castle.

After defeating Godrick:

  • Return to Liurnia Of The Lakes
  • Travel to the Rose Church
  • Speak with White Mask Varré

Varré will ask for your opinion about the Two Fingers.

Choose:

  • “They didn’t seem right”

This allows the questline to continue.

Step 2 Get The Festering Bloody Fingers

After the dialogue, Varré gives you several Festering Bloody Fingers.

These are multiplayer invasion items used to invade other players’ worlds.

To progress:

  • Use the fingers three times
  • You do not need to win
  • Simply completing the invasions counts

There is also an offline alternative by invading Magnus The Beast Claw at the Writheblood Ruins in Altus Plateau.

Step 3 Receive The Lord Of Blood’s Favor

Return to White Mask Varré after completing the invasions.

He gives you:

  • Lord Of Blood’s Favor

This white cloth must be soaked in maiden blood before the quest can continue.

Step 4 Soak The Cloth In Maiden Blood

There are two commonly used locations for this step.

Church Of Inhibition

Travel to the Church Of Inhibition in northeastern Liurnia Of The Lakes and interact with the dead maiden inside the church.

Chapel Of Anticipation

You can also reach the Chapel Of Anticipation through The Four Belfries using an Imbued Sword Key.

Inside the chapel is another valid maiden body for the quest.

After interacting with either maiden, the cloth becomes blood-soaked.

Step 5 Obtain The Pureblood Knight’s Medal

Return to White Mask Varré and give him the blood-soaked cloth.

He rewards you with:

  • Pureblood Knight’s Medal

Use the item from your inventory to teleport directly to Mohgwyn Palace.

First Steps Inside Mohgwyn Palace

After teleporting:

  • Move down the stairs
  • Pass through the blood swamp
  • Reach the Palace Approach Road-Ledge Site Of Grace

This area contains one of the best rune farming routes in the game.

The Bird Rune Farm

At the cliffside near the Site Of Grace:

  • Look across the ravine
  • Find the giant crow enemy
  • Shoot it with an arrow or ranged attack

The bird will often run off the cliff, rewarding thousands of runes instantly.

This is one of the fastest early-game rune farms available.

Albinauric Rune Farm

Down the hill from the Site Of Grace is a large group of sleeping Albinaurics.

Area-of-effect attacks can clear huge groups quickly for massive rune gains.

Late-game weapons like the Sacred Relic Sword make this farm even stronger, but basic AoE spells and attacks still work very well.

Be Careful If Underleveled

The enemies inside Mohgwyn Palace are extremely dangerous.

Even though you can reach the area early, many enemies can kill low-level characters very quickly.

If underleveled:

  • Avoid direct melee fights
  • Use ranged attacks when possible
  • Focus mainly on rune farming
  • Unlock Sites Of Grace first

What You Need

  • Optional multiplayer access

Best Strategy

The fastest strategy is to complete White Mask Varré’s questline immediately after defeating Godrick The Grafted.

Tips

If you are underleveled, avoid fighting the stronger enemies inside the palace directly.

Unlock the farming Site Of Grace first and use ranged attacks to safely build levels before exploring deeper.
