Starscourge Radahn Boss Guide
Starscourge Radahn is one of the most cinematic boss fights in Elden Ring and the main event of the Radahn Festival in Caelid. Unlike most fights in the game, this battle is built around large-scale mounted combat, NPC summons, and constant movement across a massive battlefield.
The key to defeating Radahn is staying mobile, summoning allies repeatedly, and attacking while his attention is focused elsewhere.
How To Reach Radahn
Starscourge Radahn is found beyond Redmane Castle in Caelid.
To access the fight:
- Trigger the Radahn Festival
- Progress Ranni The Witch questline
- Use the Sending Gate behind Redmane Castle
The portal transports you directly into the Wailing Wastes battlefield where the fight begins immediately.
Recommended Preparation
Before fighting Radahn, it helps to prepare:
- Strong physical weapons
- Bleed or Frost weapons
- High health and stamina
- Plenty of healing flasks
- Torrent
- Spirit Ashes if desired
Bleed, Frost, and Scarlet Rot are all highly effective against Radahn.
Weapons and tools specifically mentioned as strong options include:
- Moonveil
- Uchigatana
- Rock Sling
- Rotten Breath
Stamina management is extremely important because Radahn’s combos are long and highly damaging.
Summon Every NPC Ally
The biggest mechanic in this fight is the ability to summon multiple NPC allies during battle.
At the start of the fight, quickly activate summon signs scattered across the sand while avoiding Radahn’s arrows.
Possible summons include:
- Blaidd The Half-Wolf
- Alexander The Iron Fist
- Lionel The Lionhearted
- Great Horned Tragoth
- Okina
- Finger Maiden Therolina
- Patches
Many of these allies can be resummoned after dying by finding their signs again later in the battle.
Surviving The Opening Arrows
The battle begins with Radahn firing massive gravity arrows from a distance.
To survive:
- Roll sideways just before impact
- Use battlefield debris as cover
- Summon allies between arrow shots
- Stay mounted on Torrent whenever possible
Once enough allies reach him, Radahn switches into melee combat.
Phase 1 Strategy
Phase 1 revolves around mounted hit-and-run combat.
The safest strategy is:
- Stay behind Radahn
- Let summons hold aggro
- Ride in for one or two hits
- Retreat immediately afterward
Do not stay in front of him for long periods.
Radahn has extremely wide attacks and long combo chains that can easily kill both you and Torrent if you get trapped in front of him.
Most Dangerous Attacks
Watch carefully for:
- Long multi-hit sword combos
- Whirling gravity slashes
- Forward rushing slam attacks
- Gravity pull explosions
- Purple orb projectiles
One of his best punish windows happens after his large overhead slams. When both swords strike the ground, quickly move in for attacks before backing away again.
Phase 2 Meteor Attack
At around 50% health, Radahn launches himself into the sky and disappears.
Immediately:
- Heal
- Resummon fallen allies
- Watch the sky carefully
Radahn returns as a gigantic flaming meteor that can instantly kill players caught near the impact zone.
Keep moving until he crashes back into the battlefield.
Phase 2 Strategy
Once Radahn returns, the overall strategy remains similar:
- Stay mounted
- Attack from behind
- Let summons distract him
- Continue hit-and-run attacks
Phase 2 adds stronger gravity attacks, larger explosions, and floating meteor projectiles, but staying mobile on Torrent makes most attacks easier to avoid.
Do not get greedy during openings. One or two hits per pass is usually enough before retreating again.
Status Effects Work Extremely Well
Radahn is highly vulnerable to:
- Bleed
- Frost
- Scarlet Rot
Aggressive bleed weapons or repeated status buildup can dramatically shorten the fight and even skip large portions of Phase 2 entirely.
Physical damage builds generally perform much better here than slow defensive setups.
Video
Step-by-Step
- Trigger the Radahn Festival.
- Enter the battlefield through the Sending Gate behind Redmane Castle.
- Dodge Radahn’s opening gravity arrows.
- Summon every available NPC ally across the battlefield.
- Mount Torrent once melee combat begins.
- Attack Radahn from behind during ally distractions.
- Retreat immediately after landing hits.
- Heal and resummon allies during the Phase 2 transition.
- Avoid Radahn’s meteor re-entry attack.
- Continue mounted hit-and-run attacks until the fight ends.
What You Need
- Torrent
- Strong physical weapon
- Optional Bleed or Frost weapon
- High stamina
- Plenty of healing flasks
- NPC summons from the Radahn Festival
Best Strategy
The safest strategy is to stay mounted on Torrent, repeatedly summon NPC allies, and attack Radahn only while he is distracted.
Focus on quick hit-and-run attacks from behind instead of trying to trade damage directly with him.
Rewards
- Remembrance Of The Starscourge
- Radahn’s Great Rune
- Access to the falling star crater tied to Ranni The Witch questline
Tips
If you are struggling, focus less on fighting Radahn directly and more on surviving while your summoned allies distract him.
This fight becomes dramatically easier once you stop trying to stand toe-to-toe with him.
