Chromatic Hexga Boss Guide
Chromatic Hexga is one of the tougher optional bosses available during Act 2. While the fight starts off relatively straightforward, the second half introduces mechanics that can make the boss appear completely invulnerable if you don't know how to counter them.
Fortunately, once you understand how its crystals work, the encounter becomes much easier.
Where To Find Chromatic Hexga
The Chromatic Hexga can be found east of Stone Wave Cliffs.
After unlocking Esquie's swimming ability, travel to the beach near the original white Hexga encounter and enter the nearby portal.
Inside you'll find a separate version of Stone Wave Cliffs where the boss waits.
Unlike the standard Hexga, this version attacks immediately when approached.
Make sure your party is fully healed before engaging.
Boss Weaknesses And Resistances
Weakness
- Ice
Resistance
- Fire
Special Mechanics
- Shields
- Curse
- Rage
- Crystal-powered invulnerability
Building around Ice damage can significantly speed up the fight.
Phase 1 Strategy
During the first half of the battle, Chromatic Hexga behaves similarly to its normal counterpart.
Focus on:
- Building AP
- Generating Gradient Charges
- Applying damage steadily
Avoid using your strongest Gradient abilities too early.
You'll need them later.
Continue attacking until the boss reaches roughly half health.
Phase 2: Invulnerability And Crystals
At around 50% health, the fight changes dramatically.
Chromatic Hexga draws power from the crystals attached to its body and becomes effectively invulnerable.
At the same time it begins using:
- Curse
- Rage
- Additional shields
Curse can kill party members after several turns, while Rage allows the boss to attack twice in a single round.
This phase is where most players struggle.
How To Break Its Defenses
The first step is removing the shields.
Abilities such as:
- Breaking Rules
- Fleuret Fury
work extremely well because of their multiple hits.
Free Aim shots can also help remove remaining shield charges.
Once the shields are gone, switch back to Free Aim and target the glowing white crystals attached to the boss.
When the crystals begin taking damage, the boss loses its invulnerability and becomes vulnerable again.
This is your opportunity to unleash everything you've been saving.
Best Damage Window
After breaking the crystals:
- Use Gradient Attacks
- Spend accumulated AP
- Cast your strongest Ice abilities
- Apply maximum burst damage
Because you've been saving resources throughout Phase 1, this damage window can end the fight very quickly.
The longer the second phase lasts, the more dangerous Curse and Rage become.
Is The Fight Worth It?
Absolutely.
The boss rewards two useful Pictos and provides another strong optional challenge for players preparing for tougher endgame content.
If you're building around revive or support-focused strategies, the rewards can be especially valuable.
Best Strategy
- Save Gradient Charges until Phase 2.
- Use multi-hit attacks to remove shields quickly.
- Target the glowing crystals with Free Aim after the shields are gone.
- Unleash your strongest attacks immediately once the crystals break.
Rewards
- Energising Revive Pictos
- Confidant Pictos
- 19,410 XP
Tips
- Bring Ice damage whenever possible.
- Avoid relying heavily on Fire attacks due to the boss's resistance.
- Keep Perfect Recovery available to remove dangerous status effects.
- The fight becomes much easier once you understand that the crystals are the key to removing its invulnerability.
